"Experience the fear without any resistance to it... from that point of view, is there anything problematic about it, without resistance... without reference to the past, to thinking, to comparing it to anything, and just experience the fear, is it uncomfortable? Is there any motivation in you to move away from it?" "Go closer to it, take refuge in the experience itself. Come so close to the experience that you can't separate yourself from it." "Take refuge in the now. You're always at peace in the now." "Whenever you're suffering, your suffering is contained in a single thought. 'I don't like what is present, I want what is not present.'" "Your fear is made out of yourself, your consciousness." "At the heart of your fear, you find happiness, you find peace... you find yourself." Wow. For me, this is one of Rupert's most poignant talks. Thank-you, beautiful soul:)

I just saw the title and it already makes sense, you cannot have two thoughts at once, just one quick thought after another, so if you have a negative thought you just create a chain reaction and a follow up story you give to it which creates more suffering, if you catch the chain reaction and thought pattern early on you can free yourself from further suffering by breaking it. You aren't your thoughts, thoughts can't suffer, it's the meaning and attachments you give to your thoughts that makes it seem real.

Great catch! ❤ Now what if you think of thoughts as refugees seeking asylum in your mind? And you are in charge to give or deny seeker the asylum? Now good seekers will enhance your experience of mind and bad refugees will cause you trouble in your mind? So the real problem is not refugees but perhaps that what is causing people to flee right like war or disasters, so you better deal with real problems you have and face it, risk is there but you will have to deal with the REAL problems in this world anyway, cheers and love ❤

Jason Kowalski anxiety is made of sensations, take a very close look at the sensations. Vipassana/mindfulness is a good well taught path for first cultivating heightened awareness/concentration (takes practice to build up but worth it) and then aiming that power at anything going on in your experience including the worst sensations. Things up close in this manner have a funny way of sort of falling apart like looking at a horrible image up close on a screen. It’s just pixels, not good or bad. It’s trippy stuff and very powerful. The 2 approaches of 'dealing' with fear...I think you said 'turning away' and 'turning toward'...Turning away still involves a relative comparison with ego..I'm not this, I'm not that..thats my ego and I am deeper consciousness..I tried this for a long time but kept being pulled into an egoic response. Turning towards, however, involves you 'catching' the feeling early on and not associating it with ego, but instead accepting the feeling and 'letting it go' before associating with your egoic social filters..this I have found works for me so much better and doesn't bring my ego in at all.

Every separate self using all means possible and impossible (for example trying to download ones consciousness into a computer) to escape its fundamental dilemma - trying to survive but inevitable doomed to fail- is what makes the world go round. Fear is the emotional reaction to the current contents of thought, which involve memory. In the absence of thought, only the most immediate and dangerous threat can bring fear. Outside of this possibity, fear depends on remembering and imagining bad outcomes in the past. Awareness can witness this useless process of negative thinking. You are self harming psychologically speaking. Stop it, and the fear will go away - HAS to go away. Yes- far easier said than done But in my experience, is really is that simple. I would say, don't become the master that has to whip the inner slave into shape You are creating that duality inside, pretending you are the master, when in fact you become the slave, the one enduring punishment.

where is the line between not resisting and taking what might be a necessary right action? this is where I get hung up. Does one just accept horrible situations by not resisting? and allow the horrible situations continue? For instance, for me right now, I am aware that I am awareness. my conditioned self is sad about the outcome of our election here in the US and I am also accepting of it. If the 'worse case scenarios' actually pan out, will my awareness prompt me to work to change it, or will living from awareness create a passive acceptance... I think I will know in any moment how to respond out of awareness - but not confident of this. any insight would be helpful.

If I see a red traffic light and I take it out of context - it doesn't alarm me, I can simply take it for what it is and so I keep driving and perhaps hit another car. I completely acknowledge the principle of being with the fear. But isn't the problem the idea that the fear actually means something like a red flag from the subconcious we just don't understand (yet)? "I have a bad feeling about this" you say and then start investigating why you have a bad feeling and maybe then you make a decision based on that. Isn't this a question of whether you can or cannot trust your gut / instinct? I guess the fear we are talking about here is more about a general one rather than specifically connected to a certain situation. But still I assume that feeling miserable (fearful) in your life could actually MEAN something and you could figure out how your life would be better, e.g. eat more breakfast? Or could being with the fear be exactly the best way to understand why the fear is arising.. oooh i see.. i guess
@FabSia2 жыл бұрын
This has also been my question. So there is a fear and there is an intuition. Sometimes when i feel bad about someone, it's bcz of fear rooted in past bad memories with people. And at sometimes I'm actually right about the person. Just don't know in that moment, whether this fearful thought is coming out of a past memory pattern or is my gut right.

Fear is not neutral. It is an energy flowing through negative belief filters. It's whole purpose is to be unpleasant so that you challenge those unhelpful beliefs. If you merely watch the fear, it's true that it will pass but it will return when the stimuli that activates it returns.
@OmniaCrafts5 жыл бұрын
hengrave5 true, but for whom is this a problem? By practising watching without resistance or attachment, each time it returns the ripples will be less and less intense, it will be starved of the energy it requires to feed on and it will die out naturally
