I understand the low carb foods that are talked about , however lack of carbs does not seem to cut it when one is doing physical demanding activities. For instance, my body seems to need the slow heavy carbs of pasta when I am out in the woods and splitting wood. ( matter of fact if I don't eat substantially while exercising , my liver will feed me automatically ) I believe for a diabetic one needs to balance carbs/exercises manually since the auto pilot sugar regulation in our body seems to be not working for us.

When I use ketchup which isn't very often mostly in my meatloaf recipes I use Heinz no sugar added ketchup. According to it's ingredients label it uses Stevia instead of sugar. I switched to Stevia to replace sugar because it actually taste the closest to real sugar.

I just got my A1C results doc. In August my A1C was 8.3 down from 9.4 in May. TODAY it was 6.3 and my average blood sugar is between 80 and 110. Alternative for Potatoes. How about Rutabaga? Ugly? yes, but peel it, dice it, and fry it like you'd fry potatoes and there is just a slight turnip taste to it and not nearly as strong as a turnip. I still eat white rice, but instead of using a cup, I use 1/4 of a cup and then double mixed vegetables in so I still fill up without filling up with the Carbs. I make cakes, but instead of using 1 Cup of sugar, I use 1/4 cup and use extra fruit and extracts. I also use Almond flour. Nuts, berries for snacks. Here is a new one. I beat an egg and bake it 400 for 10 minutes, it comes out like a fried egg, but in a square pan I cut it in half and use them as a replacement for the bread in a breakfast sandwich.

I am Type 1. I seldom eat bagels, most often after my glucose is on the low side, and I usually. choose whole wheat-everything or pumpernickel bagels. Before eating, I use a sharp grapefruit spoon and spend a few minutes to scoop out as much of the dough as possible from each half. I remove a lot of the dough that way. I usually top the half I will eat with butter or cream cheese and usually eat one half of the bagel at a time, saving the other half for another time. The bottom line is I seriously reduce the carbs but get to enjoy the taste and consistency of the crust and whatever topping I spread in it. Your thoughts, Doctor?

I’m pre diabetic, was told my A1c is 5.7. Since then, I do intermittent fasting Every day between the hours of 7pm- 11am. Every morning I start my day with diluted apple cider vinegar & a teaspoon of moringa. By 11am or shortly after I have my first meal of steel cut oats with blueberries,cinnamon & strawberries. I skip lunch & have my Dinner which consists of baked chicken or curry chicken with a greens & a sweet potato. This is how I keep my weight under 150 lbs. I’m currently at 148.

Hi Dr, I enjoy your videos. I use sweet leaf brand stevia which is 0 on the glycemic index. I am prediabetic. Should I not be using it?
@SugarMDs
@SugarMDs 6 ай бұрын
@jimmyjohns4609 It's great that you're mindful of the glycemic index! While stevia is indeed low on the glycemic index and doesn't affect blood sugar levels, it's always wise to consult your personal healthcare provider as they know your specific health condition. In moderation, it's generally considered a good alternative to sugar for those watching their blood sugar levels.

@SugarMDs
@SugarMDs 6 ай бұрын
@waliya572 As a type 2 diabetic, using stevia as a sugar substitute is generally considered a good choice. Stevia is a natural sweetener that does not raise blood sugar levels and is often recommended for individuals with diabetes. It's essential to monitor your blood sugar levels regularly and consult with your personal healthcare provider to ensure that any sugar substitutes you use align with your specific health needs and dietary requirements. They can provide personalized advice based on your health condition, medications, and overall wellness.

About rice and potatoes, it's VERY helpful to first eat a large serving of nonstarchy veggies. Meal-sequencing is a powerful tool for diabetes. Eat a pound of broccoli before that pound of potato, and the glucose will stay much lower than if you just ate potato. Also....verrry slightly undercook your potatoes.

hi i freeze my carbs like pasta,wholemeal bread, brown basmati rice, and my french fries are always a frozen brand, i cook the rice first btw. if you google freezing effects on the glyciemic index of starches you will see why its better for you, also toasting bread also reduces the GI good luck, last thought i take berberine tablets 1 per day 750mg, my blood sugar is 5.0 under the old measurements according to my doctor that is outside the diabetic scale.

So, ive been doing some testing lately on certain foods. The other day I went to BJ's restaurant and had a chicken club sandwich with a big plate of french fries and a tall beer. Frist fries ive eaten in about 8 months. My blood sugar 2 hours after lunch only went to 114. I also read that sweet potato fries are much more diabetic friendly-what's your thoughts on that?

Simple carbs, yeah, they're bad. Complex carbs are not bad. The brain needs carbohydrates to function.

@@cristywyndham-shaw5111 The brain does not need us to eat carbohydrates, our body automatically converts enough fat into glucose for the brain and some other organs. I go for months at a time with zero carbs, then a week or two of chocolate and some other sweet things as a cheat because sugar and carbs are addictive but thy are certainly not needed.

@@cristywyndham-shaw5111 I was actually thinking the other day that simple carbs are probably healthier than complex carbs because they spike your sugar and are done. Complex carbs take a bit longer to break down and if you are having complex carbs 5 times a day you are likely causing chronic inflammation with the sugar being high for much longer periods of time.
