I wouldn’t put it so crass, but I’m a 4 foot 10 meek girl and an opera singer that quit the bachelor’s degree because people scare me: however I 100% agree. Styx, Kansas, Boston, etc. are the brilliant opera vocalists of progressive rock. Off topic kinda… I know Kansas traded band members all the time… does anyone know why the Styx lead singer is a brunette with a mustache and then a blond guy? I’m too green so maybe it’s not it’s even the same band, it’s so silly, but I’d adore someone schooling me.

@@bluesgirl65 It was about the American dream. We've stopped dreaming and are awakening (like a sleeping giant). Aw this song play'in in basement on the turn table as fam & friends play'in pool. That Styx album playing that song, my Gran Melrose won that album, on a music radio show. She was what ever #caller. See Gran Melrose had a spirited keen whismy for each grand child. She didn't have much in finances to buy us gifts and we grand children all just truly loved her for being whimsy Gran Melrose sharing no matter what. How sweet she felt a nudge one day~ thinking of me. She decided to tuned into a Rock Station, she thought I would listen too and some how always knew her tuning in there would be a call in to win an Album of a Rock Band. Many stories of Walk in Beauty Whimsy Gran Melrose endearing... The day I answered door yelling to Family, "Oh here we go again Gran Melrose won us something? I hope not another case of Apricot Shampoo!! Aw nope it was for me the Styx album, that my friends brother played weeks before, while playing pool at there house..❤ Now Gran Melrose gifted me Styx album to play pool at my house too... :) Weave of Life Beloved GM 🕸 :🌹🐺

1975 "...so lift up your heart, and make a new start... and lead us away from here..." Red The color red represents hardiness and valor, as well as courage and readiness to sacrifice. It is also sometimes said to represent the blood shed by those who have fought to protect our freedom and our country. Blue The color blue signifies justice for all, as well as vigilance and perseverance. A reminder that we must remain watchful and strong. White The color white stands for purity and innocence. Pure, because we are independent from other countries and hold true to our ideals. So what DeYoung is expressing in the first verse appears to be his unwavering patriotism. But that noted, in the second verse he still lets it be known, to his dismay, that his country is not as globally influential as it once was. And again, it’s not as if Dennis DeYoung is advocating war or anything like that. But it’s more like to him America has “changed” - and not in a good way. In fact what he seems to be implying in the chorus is that her negative transformation is the result of having grown too powerful, i.e. ‘conquering the world and more’. And it also seems he’s poetically saying something like, concerning her glory days, that they are permanently behind her. So what he is desiring, as illustrated in the final passage, is that the country “make a new start”, as in readjust its vision and “lead” the people to a more glorious path than the one that it is currently on. So even though this song may be critical of America it isn’t anti-establishment, as with many other similarly-natured tracks that were coming out during the post-Vietnam era, even though to some degree it is anti-war. It’s pretty clear that the vocalist does in fact love his country, and nothing is going to stop him from doing so. Such sentiment is partially based on him looking back to the past, when her situation was more ideal than it is now. And that would also be one of the reasons why he uses the word “suite”, a homonym of sweet, to describe her. Nonetheless he is obviously concerned with America’s present standing and its current trajectory. So conclusively, he is calling for the nation to reset its vision.

The song's message is more recognizable today. Though it was written about the bicentennial and the over commercialization the celebration was. Though the Boomer youth who saw this celebration as young adults would probably be appalled by how corrupt and Commercialized sweet madame blue has become. Hell we have a failed Reality TV star trying to get into the white house for a second term.. that wouldn't have flied in the 70s America. We went downhill quick with big brands seeping their roots into our democratic process that it benefits their desires than that of the people. Want to make America Great again? GET RID OF SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS AND LAZY POLITICIANS, WHILE "WE THE PEOPLE" STILL CAN.
