Neskutečná síla. V Jiřím Bělohlávkovi jsme ztratili velkého Čecha.

I'm from Czech Republic. Josef Suk is a wonderful Czech music composer. this composition is the anthem of Sokol, which is an old sports association in the Czech Republic. thank you to all the musicians for the musical presentation of my country.

I always envy people who are able to understand most of opera or chorus singing. Even though I'm native Czech, were it not for the English subtitles I wouldn't understand half of it. And not because of the pronunciation -- the words I was able to discern had a very good one... Anyway, back to the piece -- I fell in love with it when I heard it as an opening piece in one of the concerts I attend, it was both magnificent and beautiful, just as this very rendering. Good work BBC! Greetings from Czechia.

Thanks for using the country's proper one-word name: Czechia. :-)

What an amazing performance! I have to really praise the chorus for their prononcuation. Czech language is quite hard, I'm native so I know. Breathtaking.

for all the patriots: I wish that you took notice of the verse "May light shine out from ..... (insert a country) .... to all humanity", for that´s what true patriotism is about

I love this piece I played it 30 years ago with a symphonic wind Band in Germany with the conductor in charge Vlastimil Jarunek.

It was very fitting that the perfomance coincided with the London Olympics, as "Toward a New Life" won a silver medal for composition at the 1932 Los Angeles Games.

Šleh’ plamen jasný od Blaníka. Do lesa tmavého, do pole tichého kol Blaníka; do pole širého, do kraje milého kol Blaníka. ||: Šlehla vatra, zaplála dokola, probudila mladého sokola. Svěť! Svěť! Splendid! The RAH is just the place for orch/choral spectaculars and the Big Tune comes over with ample resonance. Nice to have a translation. Thank you.

The translation was pretty good until the last sentence . "Hučí Šumava i Tatry" . It does not mean "our hills and mountians thunder" because Šumava is a national park in Czech Republic (beautiful place) and Tatry are iconic mountains of Slovakia . Thus it rather glorifies Czechs and Slovaks at the same time .

Its about the end of 1 World war...so maybe it doesnt matter geographically.
@jakubegermajer9841
@jakubegermajer9841 2 жыл бұрын
It's about Czechoslovak Legions in WW1, yes. But the geography is very important - Šumava is in Czechia (Bohemia), while the Tatras are in Slovakia. So the verse symbolizes the unity of Czechs and Slovaks
