Very cool ride. You might want to come up with a clam-on brace that goes between the bike frames from just under the seat stem to keep the rear of the bikes centered on the rails.
@sgdeluxedoc
@sgdeluxedoc 17 күн бұрын
I was thinking about something like that too, after noticing how uncentered the right bike's wheel was, myself. Never came up with a solution, however, since you want to avoid anything that's going to add more friction. Perhaps an adjustment bolt that can reset the center of the wheel that needs centering?

the addition of a cross brace between the two bikes near the back wheels would help prevent derailments. Another thing is to try lawnmower wheels with a wooden flange it makes for a much quieter ride. You will see a lot more wildlife if your ride is very quiet.

@@Suluk46 at the age of 17 during spring break in high school my best friend and I decided to hitchhike from Louisville, Ky to Daytona beach Florida. It was epic with some very long hikes in-between rides. We survived 12f temps, snow, then thunderstorms and 80f temps we suffered sunburns and cold weather hyperthermia in that 5 day trip and almost 1800 miles of travel round trip! It was quite of a adventure for two teenage kids that really didn't have a plan with one backpack with a few changes of clothing, 2 light blankets and a few snacks and a couple hundred bucks!

Amazing adventure! Thank you for sharing the pictures, videos and stories. That is truly beautiful country in the northern Canadian shield. I was a canoe guide in Temagami, Ontario for 25 years and have led trips to Moosonee on the Harricana and Missinaibi/Moose Rivers. We took the Polar Bear Express train lines back with canoes and gear in box cars to Cochrane. The rivers are beautiful, raw, and remote with huge challenging rapids. Crossing the lower James Bay was a huge challenge with tides and winds on our way to Moosonee. I wish you had shared more about the town.

Hello great video so far, really enjoying the adventure. Just a thought could you not attach a metal bar between the two back wheels the same width as the train track to keep you both on center of the track to help stop the derailing problem. Maybe a piece of flatbar with a hole in each end that could bolt up to the frame or clamp to the frame at the rear of the bike. Thanks for sharing.

Wow thanks for the video I would love to do this. But as i'm watching you guys having all of these derailments on wet rails. What you need to do is cut a branch from woods and strap it like between the two seat posts and fasten it down. This way It takes both bikes to drift off the tracks instead of just one. This will prevent many derailments from what I can see.

The line of lights you saw ~9:30 was probably a starlink group. When they "disappeared," they likely went into the earth's shadow and stopped reflecting sunlight - orbital mechanics work out that near dusk, satellites are often still visible. if you're in northern canada, you're right over the flight path of starlink groups from all the major US launch sites, and they all go on polar orbits that would be easily visible in your low light pollution wilderness.

That probably would have helped and is an excellent idea that I'll keep in mind on our next trip. I didn't even try to rig up a solution, we just took it a bit slower during the rains. Once the rail dried, it's very reliable.

Lashing it to the rear axles might work (seat would hit legs) but it would make for a rougher ride. I'd look at the possibility of an idler wheel extending to the outer side of the rail, mounted somewhere on the rear subframe. It'll stop the inward slide and still keep the rear of the 2 bikes independent. Crazy adventure, thanks for the vid!...scrub that, some sections have wooden footprints close to the track

I'm passably familiar with bikes, tire pressures, and tires staying on a slightly round surface like a rock versus kicking sideways. And i would not have guessed that that arrangement would have worked without some kind of guidance on the rear wheel. very impressive to realize (experiment? guess?) that it could work like that.

@@Suluk46just a question on your track rig: how much does your track rig weigh? Also, do you have a fabrication video? Thanks and great video.

Amazing video and quite the logistics to make it happen. How do you scout out tracks to ensure they arent active?

I've never had one that was serious enough that it couldn't be fixed. I guess it would depend on the situation though.
