I feel like with EVERY new album a band comes out with it suddenly sounds "less heavy" or "pop" and I question where people get "pop" from this is no where near and in my perspective will never sound like that because this is COMPLETELY different and no where near sounding like pop. There's guitars, there's bass, there's drums, there's screams, aggression, confidence, loud, enthusiastic, performance in these fine musicians. But why do people think it's less heavy all of a sudden. It still sounds like periphery to me. If you guys listen very..very..VERY close to how they play you will suddenly realize what their style is and accept and respect for what they are. I remember my first song I heard was make total destroy , I went back and heard their old stuff.. They were very interesting it was very different unlike any band I heard in my opinion and it's crazy how I grew passionate for this band and had nothing but respect for them. Keep up the great work guys! Btw not every music has to be so "heavy" open your horizons rather than narrowing your taste and style down. Music is about opening up not narrowing. Gain some appreciation people.
@TheDungeon1110 жыл бұрын
THIS GOES OUT TO ALL THE MEMBERS OF PERIPHERY!!! How dare you guys try to explore and grow as musicians, music isn't subjective, its all about what I want. Making the same album over and over is the key to success, look at all the greats The Beatles, The Pink Floyd, The Nickleback, I rest my case. Let me give you guys some unsolicited carer advice, on the next album just make 14 different versions of "Icarus Lives", you will be on your way to becoming the next Kid Rock for sure. Also yea I know I don't have the success you guys do, but what I do have is an Axe FX, superior drummer, and a computer, thus technically making me a part of the "industry" and my opinion valid.

I love everything Periphery has released for Juggernaut. As a guitar player and a musician myself, I know that it's hard to write music to the masses. Metal has always been about mixing your influences into what you as a fan wants to hear. Write music for yourself, not to the masses. Periphery is a great band of GREAT musicians and I wish I had half the talent that any member in Periphery has. They write MUSIC. Not your typical stock ass metal riffs. There's enough of those bands. I'm all for anything Periphery does.

People familiar with a band will come to a new release with expectations. An evolving band, especially with a certain amount of hype, will disappoint those flocking with those expectations (as we are now seeing in the comment section). Really like what I'm hearing on this track: fun, melodic, cinematic and groove metal that doesn't sound like Meshuggah worship (refreshing!). The only thing i'd like to see Periphery do more of going into the future is be a little more dynamic! it seems to be either clean/ambient/electronica stuff or balls-out-metal: rarely anything between.

Periphery is welcome to make whatever type of music they want to. I have absolutely no right to tell them otherwise as I would never want any band to cave into something they don't feel is "right". My opinion though is that from what I have heard in this song, and from the previous album as a whole is that they are moving away from what made me like them. Yeah their first album was heavy as fuck with mostly minor progressions but it was much more than that for me. Every track just had this presence and balls that made me want to re-listen to every song over and over again. The previous album just sounded so...so tame and uninspiring and that is exactly what I am sensing from these early releases from the new album(s). Even the heavy parts just seem off. Anyways just one man's opinion please don't get discouraged from it. Your newer stuff is just not my cup of tea right now. But please for the love of god smack some sense into me and pull a comeback kid and somehow blow me away with this new album. I want to like you guys I really do.

I started listening to Hard Rock when i was 11 and was opened up to metal when i was around 13. Through the years of 13 to 16 I was all about Avenged Sevenfold, Rise Against, Breaking Benjamin, Attila, etc.. Now, at 17, after being introduced to periphery, I cant find it in me to listen to any other band besides Periphery because their not just your stereotypical Metal band. Periphery is a group of incredible talented musicians with a passion for music. I'm inspired beyond any scale from the way they know how to create a beautiful rhythmic feel of any emotion without basing it on one instrument (i.g. most rhythm guitars would play a simple extended cord to capture emotion as the lead plays individual notes to fill.) Everything is always moving and when they do get stuck play cords they always find a way to make up for it, either introducing a complex pattern or an incredible vocal moment to keep you jamming out no matter where you may be blasting their amazing sound. I myself one day plan to go to college for music, including Sound Engineering, and really hope to find people willing to start a Progressive Metal band that would be strongly influenced by Periphery. I feel this world has slowly been taking a turn in the wrong direction in terms of music. Its time to show the world that music isn't all about a songs vocals or beat or lyrics, its about the part of music where creativity is a proven freedom full of talent. Keep on jamming Periphery! Allow your influence on music to spread forever in the future!

I definitely hear the vocals taking a more pronounced position and the guitars being rolled back a little. Any band at one point or another is going to evolve, you wouldn't listen to the same album the rest of your life so why expect them to write the same album? They write what they feel at the time. I can 100% hear the collaboration on this more so than previous albums and so far I dig it. For years I practically refused to listen to Periphery because I was one of the people who couldnt get into Spencer's vocal style. I was a death metal vocalist at the time and was stuck in a box of "everything needs to stupidly heavy, fast, and include deep growls" but ever since I started branching out from the depths of death metal, deathcore, and well any and all things absurdly heavy I have discovered music that really transcends my expectations. First I stumbled upon Protest the Hero which opened a door for me as a vocalist that I never even thought of opening, then I stumbled upon Nothing More which opened even more doors to musicianship, and for the last few months I found Periphery which has blown my mind all over the damn place. Listening to Periphery has helped me find out that I can actually sing not just scream at the top of my lungs and do covers of anything that includes a rasp in your voice. I used to be the "fuck this music its for pussies" troll but now that I have sat down on multiple occasions and listened to Periphery's entire discography I can say without a shadow of a doubt that this is true musicians music along with the other bands I posted above. These guys found a way to combine pieces of so many different styles of music (note that I said music and not just metal) and craft them into works of art that it takes a deeper understanding of music itself to fully appreciate. Hell I just finished a play through of P1, Icarus, P2, Clear, all the singles from Juggernaut Alpha/Omega, and I see a band that is evolving into something much bigger than it was when it started. P1 was mostly Misha going absolutely ham on every song and now the new tunes are a culmination of the entire bands vision for their music. Its really refreshing to see a band expand upon their original sound without it taking away from what originally made them great. There are differences but that is called evolution my friends. 22 faces, The Bad Thing, and Graveless sound like old school Periphery without a doubt and Alpha has a way of getting stuck in your head for hours at a time even if you haven't listened to it in a while. I know trolls are going to come and rip this post to shreds because they think their opinion means more than anyone elses which it doesn't. Everyone's opinion means the exact same....nothing. Its just your personal point of view and nobody is wrong when its their opinion because its your own personal beliefs. I've been the troll and once you grow out of the box that you live in you'll realize that Periphery is carrying the torch for the future of metal and music alike. Let these guys keep doing their thing and quit bashing them because its not how you would go about writing the tunes. This is Spencer, Jake's, Misha's, Nolly's, Matt's, and Mark's band...not our's and we should be happy that they want to share their music with us and not keep it to themselves. Stop being internet trolls, if you don't like the music then go listen to something you do like and let the people who actually enjoy it converse about the music we all love. Keep up the great work Periphery!!! Those of us who truely appreciate your music have your back!!!!

You have to consider that there are twice as many songs to look forward to. They want to tease us with the project they have spent a lot of time experimenting with and perfecting. Since the album will drop in a couple weeks, they are most likely going to give us 3 songs of each album to tease us with before the full thing.

My favorite thing about these albums has to be listening to them front to back, over & over again. While finding things I didn't hear before and also hearing parts of other songs. This is a tremendous band and a killer album(s).

To all those claiming periphery sounds too "poppy" now, have you actually ever heard pop bands? Like One Direction and Maroon 5??

Well, usually when people here say "pop" they mean "popular-uninspired-metalcore".

Jeff Ayotte way to lump us all into one category. I'm a girl and I listen to metal. (AKA music that is "hard to listen to")
@fishy00010 жыл бұрын
Jeff Ayotte Not gonna jump your ass or anything, but I seriously hope you didn't mean to classify all girls as people who only like to listen to commercial, poppy easy-listening music. I understand if you didn't mean it that way, but, if you did, you are dead wrong. I'm a girl who was raised on metal bands such as Judas Priest, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, and Pantera. I pretty much despise most pop music. Get your facts straight, man. lmao

I know you guys (Periphery members) don't really let the fans dictate what kind of music you write. Even though you probably don't care what this random internet stranger has to say, thought I'd let you know I absolutely love your old songs, and these new ones are blowing me away with awesomeness. Can't wait to see your show with Nothing More!

I will never understand how people can be so critical of the music bands like Periphery put out, obviously they have some different style here but you can't deny that it's still good fucking music. Just listen and enjoy it. If bands wrote every song to be one signature style they'd get old and generic and you'd complain about that instead...

Yo, has anyone began piecing the story together from the lyrics yet? I wanna hear some theories. Obviously something to do with a main character/dude, hell, the woods, and a spooky monster (wraith?). Lots of faces, too
@bajiphotography948410 жыл бұрын
I'm just as lost as you. Even with 3 songs being back-to-back (and now a title track which would (imo) imply some serious connections), I haven't pieced anything together besides the "you're buried alive" bit in 22 Faces and The Bad Thing.

Just curious are you familiar with Spencers lyrics in the past? It can be complicating if you aren't aware. Though if you do understand what it is actually about it is pretty neat.
@will428210 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I've tried deciphering that in the past, mostly to no avail; they have explicit themes in songs like have a blast and make total destroy, but on the other hand, I have no clue what Ji or racecar is about. Haha. I'm really stoked to see all of the artwork in full, it should give a lot away.
@Mp5Drummer10 жыл бұрын
There are a few references to pushing and pulling (The Scourge, 22 Faces, Psychosphere), seems to have something to do with the cover art of Alpha. All the references to walls as well make me curious about the house on the cover of Omega. Also looks like some sort of rip in the Earth/reality under the house, which ties in with The Bad Thing and The Scourge. Mind control seems to be a theme as well, "Now I am a product of a mind that wasn't ever mine". MK Ultra was a secret government mind control project. The themes are all coming together, but the most of the acutal story I can clean is that the main character faces a struggle to control his own body and finds himself travelling to either some sort of afterlife or a parallel world. I think I might be what you could call an obsessive fan.
@will428210 жыл бұрын
Nah man, you're on to something! I looked up the theory of rainbow gravity as well; interesting stuff (theory essentially denounces the idea of the Big Bang)! The song title hell below makes me think that the "bad thing" was the main character being tricked into opening a path into hell. Some of the preorder merch has some of the other art on it to, and everyone in the band keeps pushing this theme of "the wraith", even though there hasn't really been any explicit references in the music yet

@SaundizzleProject10 жыл бұрын
It doesn't even really have a major "tonality." The two "major" sounding chords in the intro are both minor chords (with some additions that form the major sounding triads). And although the chorus has a "poppy" chord progression, I feel like it makes the odd-meter more digestible. I think the music sounds fresh and inspired, but that's just my opinion. #BILLYMAYSISSTILLALIVE

Cobbled together some lyrics I could tease from the video and the fourth webisode - please do help correct any mistakes! :) It's always better on the other side of there Wanting what you never have It is a goddamn broken state of mind Here, the one that we've been living in It's never greener inside the mess we're in Wanting what you never have Unless we all contend the more we throw away What little time we have left to grow Separate mind from hate, what do we have now? "" What little time we have Stop bleeding on the inside We are alive And it's more than enough to paint the walls in our word Can we show the ones who are blind? It's envy eating away at the core of us Wanting what you never have And isn't it the point of "" Knowing this is all we get? It's never greener inside the mess we're in Wanting what you never have Unless we all contend the more we throw away What little time we have left to grow Separate mind from hate, what do we have now? "" What little time we have Stop bleeding on the inside We are alive And it's more than enough to paint the walls in our blood Can we show the ones who are blind? Can we show the ones who are blind? Stop bleeding on the inside We are alive And it's more than enough to paint the walls in our blood Can we show the ones who are blind? "" Sent to all the air we breathe [repeat once] This want is menacing It will not leave us be Can we purge this? The bastard in our brain will chew until it bleeds Until we get like this How did we get like this? Can we purge this? Step out in the rain Feel life in our veins [repeat once] How did we get like this? Can we purge this? The bastard in our brain will chew until it bleeds How did we get like this?

I've spoke up about this on Facebook, and I'm compelled to say it here. The hate is unnecessarily strong with this one. The comments in the KZbin link are hilarious. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion but to claim that the song sucks BECAUSE it's somewhat poppier and upbeat is simply ridiculous. Truth be told, those reasons why people hate it are the reasons why I absolutely LOVE it. The melodies make it memorable. The upbeat feel to the song (for the most part) make the song a joy to move to. The writing is still stellar and unpredictable in that typical Periphery fashion. On top of that, it has the signature traits that Periphery is known for (lots of well-written guitar work, pounding & grooving drum parts, loads of dynamic changes without sacrificing flow). No talent is wasted here because to write an album of one dynamic, sound, and sound is so artistically limiting. There's a good reason why Periphery is well regarded in the metal world today, and it's because of tracks like this (and the other 4 readily available) that drive this point home. Take a listen for yourself. If you don't like it, that's fine. Even Misha will tell you that (he's even stated it in the comments of this very thread). But as far as I'm concerned, this is my favorite track of the 5 that I've heard thus far. I can't wait for the album release and the show in NOLA on the 16th w/ Nothing More, WOVENWAR, and Thank You Scientist.
