London in the 60s. Beatniks, hippies, mods and rockers, flower power, love beads. Very short mini skirts courtesy of designer Mary Quant. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Walker Brothers (Scott Walker!) And Carnaby Street, a stones throw from Oxford Circus in London. . It was the time of the young er people.

@playitagainsue It was amazing, and probably the best time ever in London. And I hit 20 in '64, so I was "grown up", and having a wonderful time. Moved out of London in '72, missed it for a few years, now have no desire to go back. I love that reaction channels awaken older memories - it's great fun listening to them, thank you.

Don't know much about the band, love this song, other hits are Do you Believe in Magic and Daydream. Based on the brief history you gave on the band, I get the feeling the song writing is very good and there could be some deep cut gems if you dig deeper. Good Choice Sue.

One of my favourite 60's groups. Some of their songs were quite funny like Bald Headed Lena. Just a few, - Did you ever have to make up your mind, She's still a mystery to me, Daydream, Nashville Cats, You and me and rain on the roof, You didn't have to be so nice, Six o'clock, Lovin' you, Darlin' be home soon, Younger girl, Fishin' Blues, Didn't want to have to do it. Their performance of "Do you believe in magic" on Ed Sullivan was a fun video. Guitarist Zal Yanovsky was Canadian and a real joker. Drummer Joe Butler had a very pleasant voice and sang a few songs as well. "Welcome Back Kotter" was John Travolta's first role. Sebastian often played autoharp. Steve Boone on the other keyboard usually played bass. Not sure about their biggest hit but "Daydream" was pretty big too..

Hey Linda, thanks for this. Yes they had so many big hits. It will be fun to play more of their stuff. I didn't know there was a Canadian in the group...very cool 🤩😍

Those other songs I remember from the 60s of Lovin Spoonful: "Daydream", "Rain on the roof", "Nashville cats" in falling order according to me. "Summer in the city" being the best. "Daydream" quite OK. When I was refreshing my memory at Spotify I found four other forgotten favourites from the late 60s: "Hole in my shoe" with Traffic, "excerpt from a teenage opera" with Keith West, "Green tamburine" with the Lemon piper, and "Eloise" with Barry Ryan. Most with some psychedelic wibes.

The Vox Continental is a transistorised combo organ that was manufactured between 1962 and 1971 by the British musical equipment manufacturer Vox. It might be the above it was difficult to see. The Animals' Alan Price played a Vox Continental organ on their hit arrangement of "The House of the Rising Sun". The Vox Continental was a popular instrument in 1960s rock music. Other artists who played the Vox Continental include John Lennon of the Beatles and Mike Smith of the Dave Clark Five.

.Hi Sue .. I recall hearing a good point made about the 2 moods expressed in this classic song ..They said the verses, which describe the hot, oppressive heat of the city in daytime felt musically quite intense, complete with sound effects of car horns and other city noises .. But the mood totally changes and lifts for the night time section, with a sense of relief and happiness.
@playitagainsue8 күн бұрын
@wayne_twentyfive Hey Wayne, that is very well done then because I think that is how we generally feel on those really hot hot days...such a relief when night falls...still warm but so enjoyable. That is so cool rhat they captured that so well (pardon the cool pun haha) 🤪❤️

Thanks Sue this put me in such a good mood First off I look at this song as the Mirror Opposite of California Dreaming I love this song It reminds me of days in East Village , living in 5 story walk up with No AC , Fore Hydrant spraying on the street outside opened by the Kids from the block but mostly of going up too the roof ( tar beach ) on 4th of July to watch Macy Fireworks , totally unobstructed view By coincidence this song was released on July 4 1966 Do you believe in Magic Or Daydream 2 more worth playing
