Your blackberries are gorgeous! I made some blackberry sauce for topping this year it was so darn good. I found the recipe in an old canning cookbook. The lady who submitted the recipe said she made this specifically for an ice cream topping. We tried it and it was fabulous! Might be an option for preserving blackberries.

I will plant garlic in October for next year, wish me luck! I have 8 layers and we get an average of 6 eggs a day. Our chickens are 1 1/2 years old. I love the look of the garlic braids!! Thank you for sharing!

Hi abbey. What a fantastic video! Your homestead is just so beautiful. Great job on your garlic braid. I actually like that better than using the softneck. A nice blackberry sauce with thyme goes so well with salmon. Blueberry even better. I really miss the large garden and having some pigs but it is just too much for me now so I get my fix watching you hard at work. I now go to the local farms and purchase my vegetables to can. Just finished my fix of cowboy candy, zucchini relish now I wait for some sockeye to pressure can. Need a good connection for it and not having much luck. Cheers!

Thank you Sheila! I’m going to have to try the blackberry sauce with thyme - that sounds great and we have no shortage of either :) we often purchase from local farms to put up to supplement what we grow. I’d love to have some sockeye on the shelf!

I enjoyed this video, your pigs look adorable! Beautiful garlic! Mine didn't produce as good this year, only a few cloves (2-3, the odd one with 4) on each bulb. Maybe I planted it too deep, not sure if that could be why??

Thanks Cindy! Maybe they needed more time, water or soil was deficient? I’m kind of a lazy gardener so I don’t have much advice! Our garlic was okay this year, my father in law gets massive heads of garlic but has a very strict water and fertilizing schedule. I’ll need to get his advice some time

Thank you! This year based on what we have left in our pantry from last year I am mostly planning to just freeze for smoothies. Blackberry jam and blackberry lemonade concentrate are staples in our pantry. This year I am also planning to try a batch of blackberry mead.
