I Disagree here, because Shaggy LBG looks like a literal DOOM weapon lol. I like how Shaggy LBG looks most with silencer, which is the only reason I use it over Malz. If I could use Malz with barrel, then i'd use that instead because that would look best.

The mobility on reload is deffo nice, but I never had any issues with positioning while using shaggy rapid pierce. Just need to be fast on avoiding the monsters. Downside is that it wouldn't be a good combo with Max might

One *HUGE* bonus to the Malzeno LBG that may be overlooked by a lot of people, the Malzeno LBG lets you use the buddy rally rampage slot unlike Shaggy, which makes Gundog builds even MORE busted.

Shaggy's 35% crit means more build space--like spare shot lv3--on top of having rampage damage decos The doggy deco doesn't make up for the Rampage damage decos. It's fine if you like it more because you prefer how it looks, but I'm not convinced that Malz is actually better. When I compare my Shaggy build to the malz build, I get better performance with shaggy--though just a little better damage. It really comes down to which one do you enjoy the most, visually? I like shaggy more, and my build also get slightly more damage than Malz. You might like malz more, and maybe with the doggo deco your damage evens out to be the same by the end of the hunt. Either way we have fun.

Shaggy - has no slot - malzeno has a level 4 slot Shaggy requires at least 2 steadiness to eat for temper Malzeno needs only 1 Rampage damage deco just puts it at almost reaching the damage done by Malzeno given if they both have the same build A build with spareshot 3 won't hit as hard as the Malzeno build and even if we will compare them dps wise - there will be times spareshot won't actually proc for you on shaggy while Malzeno is already ahead by 1 ammo since Shaggy is 4 and Malzeno is 5. It doesn’t come up very often in hunts, but I do like that narga has both exhaust and para. It allows for two dunks on a hunt, and shaggy can do the same with exhaust and sleep (although the former is a bit annoying due to it being RF E1). I still think that this probably doesn’t even out in terms of raw, it’s just a couple seconds of guaranteed uptime, but it does make for some nice comfort or assist in MP

When I hit MR8~ish I was still spurting with Narga. Someone mentioned trying out Malzeno b/c moving while reloading is really comfy. I didn't have the SM parts to put it together but did some testing to see how it felt and was sold on the reload perk. I found that the r9 malz only barely fell behind my r10 narga. I did a lot of testing with different skill combos and ultimately came to the same points you did, and switched full time once I crafted the r10 version. 1) 4 slot jewel. This is major. Getting both lvl 3 pierce and rapid is always demanding on lvl 3 jewels. The narga having only a 2 slot means your build will always be choked by this. Being able to host one of those in the gun is going to open up armor flexibility Narga will never see. Exactly as you said - even if you have a god charm like rapid2, pierce1, 3-1-1 the Malz is going to take that same charm and just go even further... 2) higher raw. In base Rise the free affinity was great, but the thing is - affinity literally only helps until you hit 100. There is no reward for going over. Wex is very slot efficient, and with just that and bloodlust we're at 70% affinity. We don't need 40 or 35% more b/c even leaving it at 70% the higher raw is going to average over the other guns. Its almost too perfect that Maximum Might gives the exact 30% you need to top off to 100%. The slot efficiency of hitting 100% crit rate makes the free affinity from other options feel superfluous. 3) Walking reload. MR and afflicted monsters are faster than HR. If you reload at a bad time you can get tagged easy, and in order to *not* reload at a bad time you're holding your gun empty not shooting. That is downtime for your dps. The ability to walk while reloading ensures you're always blasting off rounds with maximum efficiency. The cons to Malz are mostly its restricted ammo types. No slicing, status, sticky etc. If you insist on having these things you can make an argument for the other guns, but otherwise Malz is winning right now.

Nail on the head. I did the same as you moved from narga to malz as soon as I got the chance. Higher base raw with my build equaled out to similar squishy shots but higher average overall on not weak points so higher average was just better for me. Plus dear God indodnt realize how good moving reload was until malzeno they will pry this gun from my cold dead hands before I give up moving shot and reload ever again.

​@Cynical Many of those Rank 10 from monster sub-types, already branch from the main monster. I.E. - Rakna-kadaki & Pyre-kadaki - Almudron & Magmudron? - Magnamalo & S. Malo I'm not saying you might not be right. It could very well be its own weapon path... but it could also very well branch off the nargacuga too, just like many other weapon paths do. Your example actually supports the OP.

Even if I really like the look of the Malzeno LBG I still enjoy Narga alot for it's Ammo options. nice to have slicing on hand to cut a tail if you need to and have Para and Exaust if you feel like it. Walking while reloading is really nice tho

I love it. Finally the video to present the info on pierce lbgs! I main both shag and malzeno lbg. For shag lbg, not for the raw, but because i like the added creativity it allows me with poison, sleep, sticky, and exhaust. Good when i play as support, or when the status ammo plays a role (eg. Kushala with poison, set up sleep-barrel bomb, or play pretend hbg with stickies) I use malzeno lbg when i just want to win with sheer power or status ammo isn't needed (eg. Gaismagorm farming), or i know the monster is really juicy (eg. mizutsune)

Great video! It is worth noting that the Malzeno LBG has the worst additional ammos, though. Paralysis ammo on Nargacuga LBG is good; Sticky+Cluster unloads fairly quickly enough with smallest recoil (+ the sliding trick) to not feel bad unloading them and getting a stun in.

I may work on making this set next. The one thing I don't like is not having ballistics. I think it is an essential skill because it makes critical distance so much more consistent for a pierce set. If it was a spread, or something else it's not necessary, but the critical distance on pierce is so vital to its damage

you are correct for max might, you aren't always going to hit weak points especially because it's pierce, so high affinity is the way to go.

i can't wait to try this build out :) i'm a bow main a trying to grind valstrax for his "mantle" is a pain in the ass, similar to how the final boss takes forever. i did use the astalos build on the final boss and i keep getting sub 8 minutes so thank you!! maybe there is a build video you could make on cheesing valstrax? i fought him like 3 times already and no "mantle", and it take like 25 minutes just because it's a struggle not to die with my damage focused build.

I still swear by the narco gun while solo because slicing. But that same talisman gets me almost the same armor set with Arquebus, but no slicing. In groups, we bring a DB user to cut tails anyway.

I think the biggest thing for me picking Malzeno over the other three, aside from walking reload, was the raw. It's easier to build around raising Affinity than Raw damage, so a few more set options open up

Not gonna lie: I used to be an ardent Avidya Eye supporter until I experienced the Vigil Kugel. Both guns are great, so ultimately I made both sets for different situations. Narga when I'm lazy to aim for weakpoints and just want to spray non-stop, and Malzeno for when I want to utterly delete a monster out of existence.

As an overall winner, yes, Malzeno (atm). But dont sleep on Shagaru LBG. Its the best one for monster with shitzones (when u still want to pew pew even knowing its not the optimal) since is the only one that can reach 100% affinity without WE (Narga is patiently waiting for an update). Besides that, Shagaru have access to poison, exhaust, sleep and sticky, so its kinda refreshing to play with once in a while.

Yeah I use the Malzeno one and never looked back. The moving reload slaps way too hard. Not being able to move while reloading is just a deal breaker for me idgaf about 3%-10% more dmg

i was trying to rework my build for RF pierce as i grind to MR100 to get that stupid Magnamalo coil (currently MR 91 so maybe another day or two). i've been messing with my builds (and getting confused) for these two guns trying to figure out which is better. i do think the Malzeno build is comfier and i love the moving reload. But in a multiplayer hunt having that slice ammo to help cut tails is very comfy so i still use both guns depending on the monster i am fighting. I am not that good that i can notice much difference between the two. i've tried dereliction builds which is no bueno for me with that constant health drain. Still, for me the guns are close enough that i use both.

i have a question.. i am using this build, but when i try to switch to long barrel rather than silencer i actually get lower damage, why is that..?.. it drop from 37 per tick to 30, i thought long barrel suppose to have higher damage? edit: hmm, i seems the above only apply to training dummy, i tried on bosses and long barrel does more dmg.. =/

Also affinity is going to matter less when we get better decos and the augments as affinity has a cap at 100, raw doesn't have a cap. You can always get more raw nor matter how much raw the gun has but you can't stack affinity higher than 100 so with setbuilding rn its already better to go more raw just because of how easy 100 affinity is to get even without the base weapon having any. Imagine what will happen if we get the better decos and lucents armor

the benefit you get from spareshot 3 gets lower and lower as the clip size gets bigger. If you have a talisman with spareshot 2 - i see no reason not to try for spareshot 3 .. but if you don't haev any .. for this one .. it's not really big.

The only reason I prefer Narga LBG instead of the Malceno LBG is because it can shoot paralysis bullets and in multiplayer when things are turning difficult I can support the other players with paralysis at the right time.

BTW here's a gift to you: Pyre-Rakna can run Spread Lv3 with Critical Firepower + Barrel. It only needs 2 absorber ranks for "low" recoil, even with CF Only issue is that the reload won't get all the way down to "fastest" and I haven't figured out a way to fix that while still getting better dps than the final boss LBG.

I tried playing with bladescale hone lv1-2 + evade extender 2 btw, but it feels too inconsistent RNG dependant for the space it takes. It also is fruitless if the monster is CCd. Might as well use spareshot at that point It is fun tho, if you're looking for an adrenaline rush lol.

When you play multi - the more malzeno with maxmight can actually outdamage it. If you are using tune up 2 - I assume you are using long barrel and not critical fire power. you are gaining 7.5% damage while critical fire power will give you 10% critical fire power will just ask you for a silencer and a bit of absorber decos But yeah maybe you have tune up 2 coming from a talisman. not forcing you to use zeno. Just try crit firepower and ditch the tune up.

Slicing is the one reason I wouldn't use malzeno since it can't use slicing but the others can. It can be helpful when you need to cut tails but don't want to run a slicing build.

@@electricmocasins7789 Or just need more oomph against things with bad shot zones, hitting for cut damage is a lot of 'comfort'. The other reason I still prefer Narga's gun is the access to paralysis and exhaust rounds too, I derive more 'comfort' of use from being able to make the monster shut up and sit still on demand a few times than I do having slightly bigger numbers and walking reload. The former options have let me prevent more than a few carts by randos. I don't think it's a big deal to pay attention to when my clip is empty to not get caught reloading when something decides to charge at me.

Bowgun mains out there, do dragon blight effects the elemental ammo and status ammo? I know it does for melee and bow.

Yes, negate any element but dragon, same as melee and bow.

This build is so far above anything else I've seen thus far. I run a damage meter to compare different builds. After over 500 hunts, nothing even comes close to the damage this thing puts out, aside from your Thunder HBG vs Gaisma. I've seen a few SwAxs get close, but every other build I've tried thus far just cannot beat the damage uptime that this thing can maintain on average.

I mean I love LBG but I just hate that the endgame is just going to be people using LBG/HBG AGAIN for the best DPS output, why can the others weapons do so much damage like that but thing is, even if the other weapons damage can par with LBG/HBG, being melee can suck with Level 100 invest because you'll most likely get hit which means you wasted time recovering thus range will always remain the top for damage, you can avoid quickly and have uptime damage.

@@hunt7533 As much as I love the ranged weapons in the game, I have to agree. Melee weapons should have a bit higher 'damage per second' due to having to be on top of the monster to deal any damage at all. You won't see the crazy high numbers out of any LBG/HBG/Bow build, but the uptime is insane. After nearing 1000 hunts with this build alone, I can confirm via a damage meter that it is STILL the highest dps output I've seen so far.

@@ZTRussell42 Yea man, range is too damn good to not use which is kind of annoying because what's the point of using the other weapons when you'll always have uptime with LBG/HBG, hell, playing multiplayer with Bloodlust/Dereliction with melee weapons is suicide with Hardcore Investigations or MR in general due to easily getting one shotted, meanwhile you're so safe with range haha.

I use Malzeno LBG heavily when I am gunning. I just wish that it was aesthetically pleasing to look at. I hate the Silencer mod, but it was a necessity that I had to sacrifice looks for more damage lmao

@@AngBata11 I mean it's one of the better looking guns in the game, don't get me wrong. I just think that the Long Barrel Mod makes the gun look cooler because of the bayonet attachment. With the silencer mod it makes the barrel of the gun look like sumpak 🤣
