Hi i got a cape sundew red form beggining of december its under LED grow lights 14 hrs a day 30cm above the plant 80% hummidity fed every 2 weeks its growing like mad and dewing but the leaves are growing curling backwards not straight any ideas what this could be ? Thanks

Hey! Sundews will do that as they grow out. If it is really drooping it could be a sign of something in the water. Is the water distilled that you are using?

@@Carnivorousplanthelp hi yes distilled or rain water , the leafs were straight when i got it now all new growths are curling backwards , been doing it for over a month

Hmmm, I have seen this before and it is okay. As long as the leaves aren’t drooping down or look limp. Sometimes they just get weird growth patterns

OUR TEMPERATURES ARE BAD AT NIGHT, GOING DOWN SOME TIMES TO -5 CELSIUS OR MORE. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT WHETHER ALL MY CARNIVOROUS PLANTS WILL SURVIVE. I HAVE PURCHASED 4 HEATING MATS FOR THE GROW TENT AND LAST YEAR I HAD HEATERS ON FOR THE WORST TIMES IN THE MORNINGS 4 am to 6am. COULD YOU PLEASE TELL ME IF I NEED TO DO ALL THIS OR AM I BEING AN OVER WORRYING PLANT PARENT. MY TEMPERATURES IN MY PLANT ROOM ARE ABOUT 19-22C AND HUMIDITY IS AT ABOUT 69%-74%-84%(only on some days/nights). SINCERELY YOURS ANNETTE QUEENSLAND AUSTRALIA

No I think you are right to be concerned. Those temps are well below freezing. If it is only getting to and average of 20 degrees C your drosera will be fine. Your nepenthes will be fine too at that temp. The drosera and American pitcher plant will more than likely go dormant which is fine. I don’t think they need a heating pad if it stays at that temp. If it drop to freezing or below I would keep an eye on them and might use the pads. They can tolerate a freeze for a small period of time but not for a while.
