got any tips on the final master. Ik a lot of friends that just have an over all louder final mix than me and sounds more atmospheric if that makes sense. I really want a louder mix. Would it just be compression or what
@sunlight04 Жыл бұрын
usually people do compress their master, but with a master compressor, not a normal one. however, to get a more atmospheric sound, you can play around with stereo imaging, this will make it sound wider in the headphones and give it a more 'alive' feeling to listeners. to make it louder, use a master limiter with a ceiling of -1db and just push it til it's way too loud. you can also change your actual headphone volume itself and play it at quiet medium and loud to see how it varies in sound. last tip i can give is use a reference track. lay out a professionally mastered song and listen to it, then mute it and listen to yours and see what's louder in theirs compared to yours. vocals? turn yours up. bass? eq yours up. made it a long response coz i never want to make a mastering tutorial cause it's so fuckin boring and i don't think mastering is really as important (it's still really important tho). hope this helps!

@@sunlight04 why ceiling of -1db? will it be normalized on streaming platforms to 0db?
@kavokonkav Жыл бұрын
@@NikiWinProdWondering that too. Usually when I use a limiter on the master I set it to 0 dB
@sunlight04 Жыл бұрын
yeah, it has to do with streaming platforms, if the true peak of your song reaches anything above -1db it can end up distorted on streaming platforms from what i've heard.

this is a great tutorial for anybody getting into mixing! Of course there's more to it like making sure the vocals are in sync with the tempo, gain staging, and adding multiple additive/subtractive EQs and compressors to the chain. Just watched the video from start to finish and love the little tips you threw in there even for more seasoned producers. I love your delivery too man!! Just subscribed and downloaded the cheat sheet. Keep it up 😁

good video, if you are beginning this is a good sort of mixing tips although I would also add leveling, but imo, overtime when you mix a whole lot 'I' just tend to level, eq, comp, and just do those three by ear. Very good video to use as a starting point (tip-put soft clipper and balance on your master for overall loudness)
