Singer Songwriter Charley Crockett is such an authentic artist. He has lived one hell of a life to write about at 39 years old, so maybe thats why and how he has written and released 15 albums of songs which he tours around the globe performing. It wasn't always the 'big stage' for Charley, he was homeless for many years and busking on the streets to survive, not to mention he also was a marijuana farmer who spent some time in Jail. Hailing from a small poor city in South Texas provided little opportunity, but Charley always had one constant in his life... and that was music. Even the music of Bill Withers, which when Charley found out that Bill had recorded his amazing debut album "Just As I Am" here at Sunset Sound, he knew he had to record there too.
Sit back and listen to the story of a "True Artist" and songwriter who never gave up that endured through a hard and turbulent past to do what he was meant to do in this life
Charley and Producer Host Drew Dempsey sit down in legendary Studio 3 to have a beautiful conversation on... everything important in life.

I first heard CC a few years ago on KNON. Before they had announced who it was, I honestly thought the song was from around 1966. The production was convincing. I'm a huge fan, and love his diversity. One minute he's doing hardcore Texas country, then he sounds like he recorded in Motown in 1970. He's unreal. Real music is still alive and well.

27:10 Metropolitan Ave stop is where I met Charley years ago - I only remember because it was my first time down there. I’d gotten kicked out of Union Sq. by Morgan O’Kane because I’d started playing at one end of the platform not knowing he was at the other end. I headed to Lorimer/Metropolitan because it was next on the list of recommended stops given to me by my busker friends - 9-10 min gaps between trains. That’s a captive audience! I was playing that platform for maybe 3 hrs when I noticed this guy with a guitar sitting and listening while all the trains came and went. Thought he was a new fan. He complimented me a few times, and then eventually he politely said, “I can tell you’re new. Saw you playing about 3 hrs ago here - you know we keep it to about a 2 hour shift down here. Mind if I take my turn?” He told me he had just left 2nd Ave on the F line and it was probably still open if I wanted it. So on I went.

Gave him a Skyview Ranch Crockett covers T shirt and asked if it was ok for us to be covering all his songs on KZbin and he said “hell yeah man, y’all makin any money?” Haha still has me laughing, I love this man to death and would take 1,000 bullets for him and his people
