Toyota JAPAN is still #1 for quality

Nope
@henkmagnetic3103Ай бұрын
@@sounddoctor5decades - I think not only Toyota, but all products quality has fallen. However, I wonder what US of A auto would come close to present day US of A made Toyota quality. I have Japanese made LEXUS RX350 2022, awesome. Before that 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overlander 4.7L HO. Loved it, but over years repair sheet longer than my arm.
@sounddoctor5decadesАй бұрын
@@henkmagnetic3103 I concur that all quality has fallen, much of that due to supply chain issues attributable to COVID. Toyota in particular is having more significant and impactful issues in more recent years due to establishing itself as a standard of reliability. Unfortunately, many of their high time engineers are timing out and retiring, this has left them with a huge problem, when you look at more recent product releases, they are having HUGE problems with fundamental core engineering affecting all routes to market. Legendary Toyota reliability is exactly that, a LEGEND. Its more pronounced and quite frankly more sad, because they have fallen SO FAR. Unfortunately, Toyota is looking like GM of the early 80's. They have some VERY CATASTROPHIC recalls going on right now, impacting both Toyota and Lexus. If I were one of the Tundra owners that paid 85K for a truck only to have the engine blow after 5K miles then have Toyota tell me they are going to send a short block to the dealer, remove all the usable parts off the blown engine and put them on the new short block, pull the cab on my new truck so they can pull the engine and replace it with a rebuild that was done at the dealership and turn my truck into a worthless POS, I would be PISSED. Unfortunately, they are doing that, along with all the transmissions in Tacoma's blowing, and that same 3.4 turbo in the Tundra blowing up in Lexus, and the Corolla 1.5 turbo 3 cylinder starting cars on fire and then Toyota telling the customer to stick it. That is unacceptable, Thank you, I will buy a Ford and put up with their nit picky recalls, I have a F150 and Ranger for my farm trucks and they have 190K and 480K on them respectively and have, for the most part, been trouble free. I have good friends that have 22 and 23 Tacoma and Tundra and they have been shitbox's, In my opinion, and that's all it is based on personal experience, no auto manufacturer has a clear advantage anymore, you can get a piece of poo from anybody. I'm old, have had automotive products from virtually everyone, short of exotics (no Bentley, Rolls, Ferrari, lambo) and I've had great luck, although I'm OCD with maintenance. I've only been stranded by 2 brands, Toyota and Subaru. I even had a 1981 Chevy Citation X-11 if you even know what that is, and that was prime time for the malaise years of US brands, and even that was a unfulfilling BUT RELIABLE car. Sorry for the novel.....

On these assembly lines, are there STOP buttons in case something doesn't fit or work the way it should?
@usaproductionlines3065Ай бұрын
Thanks a lot for asking. Yes, either there is exactly as you write the possibility of an employee to suspend the production line or there is a monitoring station that monitors that everything is going well
@scottstover482Ай бұрын
Yes, there are a number of safety protocols in place, and every station has an e-stop button that would shut down the line. Attitude, tho is another thing. The tools used are programmed for torque, speed and monitored real time. They are very expensive, try getting workers that come to work and do what they're getting paid for. Most are ready to go home at the drop of a hat. And then the disgruntled ones treat the tools horribly, dropping, throwing, and then complaining the tools are sh-t, anything to shut down the line, sit on their butt's and get paid.

So how is it that a foreign country can have their vehicles assembled and made here in the USA when the avg. wage is higher than in Japan ?
@YamiPheonix531Ай бұрын
Tariffs and nationalistic protectionism. The Ronald Reagan era placed heavy tariffs on Japan made products to persuade Americans to buy American made products. To battle these heavy tariffs, Japan based companies opened operations on American soil to avoid these tariffs. Paying in USD is more expensive than JPY but it is worth keeping your customer base and brand perception in a foreign market.

Untested and immature cutting edge technology. Toyota waits for new tech to mature and be perfected. That is why Toyota is behind the competition on features and customization. But Toyota is ahead in reliability and longevity due to them waiting on new tech to be perfected rather than install it in their cars.

The Alabama factory for the Corolla Cross. Poor assembly quality. Disaligned panels. Poor quality control. You have to see it to believe it, a lady published a photo of the vehicle she was to take possession of, the rear lights were different. I swear it's true, I saw it. Steering wheel crumbling (two cases of which I am aware). etc. This plan really has some quality issues.
@knightky007Ай бұрын
This doesn't surprise me. People here (AL) do not care what they do. They are very nice people at a personal level but a big no at a professional level. Part of that is a cultural thing. I live about 5 miles from that Toyota Mazda Alabama plant. The build quality is undoubtedly worse for those Corollas built in Mississippi. LOL!
@tad6176Ай бұрын
@@knightky007 What do you expect for $20 an hour on assemble line and little benefits. Where I live $16 is a minimum wage job.
@knightky007Ай бұрын
@@tad6176 Toyota pays well above the minimum wage in my area. It was like $24 for an entry-level/inexpensive position. That was 2yrs ago. They pay so well that other companies in this area are competing with Toyota in hiring a workforce. Why do you think they deserve $35/ hr for no experience and don't care attitude? They need to prove themselves first and earn from it.
@richardperreault4976Ай бұрын
@@tad6176 Go make this kind of comment to people with very modest incomes who have had the interior of their new car literally flooded because of a plastic pipe not connected to the water drain on their sunroof. Of course $20 an hour is poorly paid and this must be the subject of a union fight, but no one is forcing them to accept this job with the responsibilities that come with it.
@elmol5610Ай бұрын
I have worked in factories for a long time. Bad quality comes from bad management not workers. In the factories I have worked, I have worked my ass off while the person beside me picked his nose all day. when it came to bonus payout, i got the same bonus as him/her. where was my motivation to give a crap. and also, in factories you don't move up for your hard work, but for who you know. the harder you work, the more work you get. North American manufacturing thinking needs to go back to the thinking table.

Toyota is the most demanding of car companies for flat steel. We used to be there go to steel supplier until the company decided that we could only make enough steel to fill there orders and then when a defect or supply problem occurred there wasn’t enough steel keep them going so we ended up sending substandard material just to make it so they wouldn’t shut down. This caused Toyota to think we couldn’t make defect free steel like they wanted. So we no longer are trusted to make many parts for Toyota. Completely a management screw up.
