I think it's because most of us in the hearing world don't often get the opportunity to see a sign interpretation that's also art. For lack of a better term, she was clearly singing in sign and it was spectacular!

She is hard of hearing and legally defined as deaf but she can hear minimally which she uses to her advantage by also mimicking the beat through sign/emotion. Breathtaking performance 💛🤎🧡🤎🧡💜🤎💛

As long as deaf people never learn to speak English and hearing people never learn sign language, there will always be a disconnect between the two people.

@@tired690 yes, I'm aware there are many sign languages. And I understand that in the English speaking world deaf and hard of hearing people do learn english. That doesn't mean the majority shouldn't do more to be inclusive of sign speakers including having interpreters much more available and many more of us learning to sign.

I never understood the need for sign language interpreter in an era of cc captioning but Justina did more than translate the words.

It is alot to ask a person who is deaf or hard of hearing to constantly read everything. This interrupter beautifully and masterfully showed the depth of emotion. Also when an interrupter is there it helps us who can hear remember that not everyone can and be mindful. Be blessed

Subtitles are the bare minimum. While they show the words, they lack any sort of emotion. Sign provides emotion, context and depth to any words being used. While it may seem the same as a hearing choosing to use subtitles out of convenience (different language, minimizing noise), it’s entirely different. We can pick up on tone and emotion when reading, as we can hear what’s going on. Deaf people don’t have that ability. They’re made to guess how something that’s typed is meant to be said.
