I'd never downgrade the skill this takes but you can't replace the feeling of fluting twice to level 7 then getting here as your preteen heart beats outta your chest dodging the hands and navigating the dark. Then finding the way to make bowser off himself into the abyss. It's just the best game ever. They knew what they were doing. Ty to the devs and ty to the speedrunners for making days and years flood back in minuets. Its all worth it. But the devs def and you runners for dedication. The love don't stop.

Did you know that in world 8-2 (the ships), after the first ship you can get under the ships and swim the whole level? You have to be careful because you can die if you aren't fully under it when the screen scrolls, but it does cut out the dangers of fighting the enemies up top. Level isn't any faster though.

Quick maths tells me that there is a 1/8 chance of you not getting grabbed at all. That means that 7 out of every 8 world record pace runs can end by being grabbed by any of these hands. It is known as one of the biggest run-killers in speedrunning.

It's just luck. Each of the three levels got a 50% chance of grabbing you into it. So getting through all of them is a chance of 12.5%. Nothing you can do about it.

Each hand has a 50% chance of grabbing you, making it 12.5% chance to get through all 3 without being grabbed. There is no trick to it, it's just luck. Most runs therefore end right there on that bridge. It's especially worse in the "Warpless" category. That after like 45 minutes of gameplay, for a WR run, you get to the hands which can cost you over a minute with bad luck. Current WR for that category got one hand.
