I made your design this weekend, and it all went together quickly and easily, as advertised! I glide-tested it with battery installed - it glided very well, so no tail-heaviness, as some commenters theorized. You made a super-simple but very good design. The weather is not good right now, but as soon as I have a chance, I'll fly it and let you know how it goes. Well done, Young Man! I'm almost 73 years old, but an RC Airplane novice, and I learned a lot from you - thanks!

Using a zip tie for control horns, I love that... very much in keeping with the foam board build thought space... :)
@abruptlyblunt Жыл бұрын
i used to use zip ties but have had them pull out on hot days so i started pinching blank plastic gift cards from walmart, they are on displays near checkout, you can cut the long enough to put a 90 degree bend in it then make a small slit in your control surface and push the gift card horn through from the bottom with glue up to the 90 bend, it leaves you with a strong horn that can't pull through the foam. to answer the question you are thinking, it's a grey area, because no money has been loaded on the gift cards they technically have no value and they make really great control horns......

Very nice design and build! I got into the hobby via Flite Test and foamboard, and am still building and flying their models eight years later. I’ve graduated to factory aircraft as well, but I always go to the FT planes first when I’m at the field. Regarding your build, I’d recommend verifying correct motor rotation before taping on the bottom panel. Otherwise you could end up removing the panel to swap motor wires. Also, you didn’t detail the power pod build. It’s simple, but probably should be mentioned. Thanks! Are you coming to Flite Fest 2022? This will be my eighth one… huge fun!

Are you still building? Going to try to build one soon.

I have to ask . Is it possible to make a kit to sell . I have several planes I've made that's good and original. Can it be made to a kit and sold on Amazon

Nice project! I looks like it would make a good trainer with it's slow flight capability. Plenty of power as well ;-) Power keeps me out of trouble or gets me in trouble, I forget which ;-) See you in the Air!

I have the same problem, although its more of the latter part. See you in the air. :)

what FT power pod are you using? Your link don't work
@StephenRosenbach2 жыл бұрын
Hi James, the link worked for me - give it another try. What it links to is the plans for the Flite Test Mini Scout - and on page 9 of that PDF, you will find the Power Pod in the upper right corner - you can ignore the rest of the PDF, just print out that page (which will actually print on 4 8-1/2" x 11" pages). This is the power pod design that's common to all of the Flite Test "Mighty Mini" planes. Note that the front edge of the pod has a slight angle - this is so the motor tilts about 4 degrees to the right, which is necessary to counteract the left-turning torque of the motor for these small planes. If you don't have an FT Mini Firewall, you can print out the template on page 10 of the pdf, then cut and drill it out of plywood. Or you can order a package of 5 from Flite Test for $5.00 at store.flitetest.com/mighty-mini-firewalls-5-pack/ Good luck, and good flying!

at 28:05, this model has LOTS of tail-heaviness, in its dom. distribution of mass. this is due to crappy/Heavy stab design and NO tapering, of the tail boom !!!!
@StephenRosenbach2 жыл бұрын
I do not see any evidence of tail-heaviness. That would have been manifested in porpoising, which this plane definitely did not show. It seems quite well balanced and stable. I have built several planes with servos near the back, and if you have enough weight forward of the CG, they fly fine.

@@StephenRosenbach I wouldn't know if the gent might have once had some genuine schooling in aeronautics but, if you check his channel, you will see that he does have some serious mental issues. 😉

I have to laugh, 1$ + $50 in electronics (if you know what to buy and where to buy it) + a $20 battery & a battery charger ($50) + a radio and reciever ($60 for a cheap one, $200 for a good)... yeah, right, a $1 airplane, pull the other one.
@rafaeldejulio59122 жыл бұрын
How tf are you supposed to build a airplane with everything with 1 dollar lol 😂 he meant the plane not including electronics
@gryfandjane2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but once you’ve bought those electronics you can reuse them indefinitely. So you might not save much initially, but the real saving comes when you crash the plane. You just build another $1.00 airframe and you’re back in the air. Not so easy with a store-bought model. ;-)
