Yup There were a couple official Melee Tournaments here in Sports Arena in L.A. If you brought your memory card (participants only) you would get 1 in 5 random trophies for participation. The winners would get lots of extras including 2,016 worth in toys and extras from Nintendo. I got two tickets for different times but unfortunately didn't enter.

I think Melee looks fine for the time, but I thought Brawl's art style was way too realistic for Nintendo. I think the New SSB's grahpics are fine, though. I mean, we wouldn't want Mario's moustache to be flowing in the wind, would we?

I much prefer Brawl's models over Melee's, considering how Melee's models don't look as similar as they should. It's as if Sakurai wanted to create a NEW Mario, instead of bringing the old one back.

The Zelda franchise was the one with the most changes from melee to brawl (I guess...) I love TP Link, and Toon Link is cute but I think Sakurai did a great work with OoT Link (adult), his graphics are better than in OoT. They used OoT models for Link because that was the Link at that time (both child and adult). Brawl was released in 2008, TP and WW were already out, two new Links, Ganondorf and Zelda. I'm so glad that the decided to keep the TP versions for SSB4 (I don't liked SS models...) I like Brawl graphics, melee are good. No meaning to offense to anyone it't just my opinion

It started development a year before the original smash bros release, it got canceled because it got to difficult to work on, so it got shelved for a while until they turned it into a gba game. Also Lucas is in the trailer but looks a bit different since its on the n64 and has limited polygons, the e3 gameplay showed ness, flint, and even boney in it

Oh, that's because the dogs from the DS game Nintendogs were included as "assist trophies" in Super Smash Brawl. They mess up the whole screen when you pick it up, so it's avoided at all costs XD

I feel like mentioning that the S in Lucas is supposed to be silent. He was named after a character in a noverl, and the character's name is French. Also, the Japanese spelling/pronunciation of his name reflects this even, by writing it "Ryuka" rather than the American-style "Ryūkasu".

Earthbound 64 began developement before 2001, and at the time of melee's developement Itoi didn't know that Earthbound 64 would be canceled in the future. So once it was canceled, they couldn't add in a character without a game.

Karl Riedel They're both party games with fighting in them, all the Smash Bros games are. Melee may be slightly faster, but they both have good combos and techniques. The "techniques" that people got mad about Brawl not having were glitches that people exploited that they didn't have. And broken characters? What? Every character is as good as any other, it's about the player. They're both casual games.

I'm assuming you mean "2001 or before", referring to Lucas in Melee. Mother 3 was originally a Nintendo 64 game late into the 64's life-span, similar to Paper Mario 64. Lucas was still present in Mother 3's N64 stage, but the game was eventually scrapped. Mother 3 eventually came out on the GBA in 2005.

About the theories regarding the Proximity Mine, I think it's unlikely the game's rating would have been affected by the inclusion of Perfect Dark content even if Rare hadn't been bought by Microsoft. Between the releases of Melee and Brawl, although the Metroid Prime series and Twilight Princess were rated T by the ESRB, they were rated M in Australia, yet content from both appeared in Brawl without affecting its rating (in Australia, Brawl is rated PG). Also, keep in mind the trophy description for the Cloaking Device also says it's from "TOP SECRET" and yet kept its Perfect Dark model.

In the prima official strategy guide for mario sunshine, it claims that if you have smash bros and mario sunshine on the same memory card, you will get the mario and yoshi trophy (kind of like the olimar trophy) It doesn't work, but that may be because I purchased smash bros before sunshine was released. Could someone test it with a newer copy of smash bros, like the players choice edition?
