Honestly, surviving is simple. Extremely difficult to achieve, but simple. Food, Water and Shelter. Food requires you to either kill something, or know enough about the foliage to know what's edible (honestly, even if I killed something, there's no way I'd eat anything if it wasn't basically burnt to a crisp. There's way too many things that live inside animals to risk for me). Water requires both fire and a container to boil it in, though in a pinch this can be substituted with most forms of running water if you don't mind the higher risk (though don't drink stagnant water, you WILL catch something, no two ways about it). If there's no readily available source of water, then place a long flat surface diagonally above something that can hold water to get some (though it works best for catching rainwater, it also works to collect moisture in the air if your surface is flat enough to aim the runoff. Just be sure to boil it first). Shelter is more complex on account of requiring the knowhow to either BUILD a shelter or find a cave or sufficiently covered area.

Think Season 3 was the last one I saw I remember the guy who drank stream water on like day 4, then tapped an aquifer like 2 hours later setting up clean water for both of the contestants, but the water he drank gave him Dengue Fever or Yellow fever or some shit like that, and he was in the hospital for like 4 months after almost dying that night. The woman survived 18 of the 21 days and only quit due to crippling loneliness and isolation. The other one I remember was a douchebag who had been on Foursome (A playboy channel dating show, where he ended up being a whiney needy bitch trying to hook up with any woman who would talk to him and ended up masturbating alone, in a car, at a drive-in theatre), he was paired with a pretty resourceful woman on some island in the pacific. He acted all tough and like he knew shit, then promptly proceeded to let the woman do everything and "carry" him while bitching that he should be in charge and knows more than this woman who was honestly impressive. Another of his highlights was shitting literally 10 feet outside the shelter structure, and not cleaning it, or at least warning his partner of its existence, and letting her walk in it.
