Giant Baba started wrestling quite a bit before andre. he was trained by Rikidozan who's pretty much the God Of Japanese Pro Wrestling. Baba started All Japan Pro Wrestling. and Antonio Inoki Started New Japan. I think Baba no matter what you think of him is one of the most "over" baby faces of all time. The amount the crowds were behind baba is amazing. and thats not something anybody can do.

Akira is my ironic fave in Virtua Fighter because he was pushed to be the main character in the first game, but everybody loved Wolf and nobody cared about Akira, so Sega retroactively invented this intense rivalry between Wolf and Akira just so they could pretend he was still the main character by virtue of having him interact with the most popular one. Akira is like the HHH of fighting games.

All Japan - Giant Babas federation, he used a lot of americans like Stan Hansen, Vader, Gary Albright, Dr Death. Also created stars like Misawa, Kobashi, Akiyama and Taue. New Japan - Antonino Inokis federation, biggest stars were Great Muta (Mutoh), Masahiro Chono, Shinya Hashimoto. Also known for their crusierweights like Jushin Liger, Tiger Mask and where Chris Beniot/Chris Jericho/Eddie Guerrero got their big breaks in wrestling. Had a very strong relationship with WCW where you guys play most of their games from the 90s they had New Japan clones in them because they used the same engine for their games.

I could smack Matt and I am not even 5 minutes in. Baba was a beast in his prime. His wrestling skill and massive size made him the biggest draw in Japan after Rikidozan's murder. Inoki would spend most of his time touring early on and his popularity didn't surpass Baba's until Baba started getting worn out. AJPW and NJPW were the two companies formed by Baba and Inoki respectively after they left the JWA, Japan's first wrestling company. AJPW was focused on putting out high quality sporting wrestling with Baba as the focal point while NJPW aimed to be a bit more spectacle.

The katakana that looks like a square is "Ro(e)" the dash elongates the sound, then the one that looks kinda like a lower case t is "To(e)"... However, the "-like markings mean the sound is softened to "Do(e)"... "Ro(e)-Do(e)"... Now, many of the vowel sounds at the ends of words, in this form, are pretty much superfluous, most of the time... So "Roe-d"... Allow for the Japanese R/L issue (Not just Japanese, but in this case)... "Loe-d"... Load. Just in case anyone was interested >_>; But yeah, it was something about loading...

JasynSuin Speaking of Dr. Death, he was popular in Japan, and was supposed to get a megapush in WWF/E as a bona fide tough guy. Vince Russo's brilliant idea to get him over in this manner was the Brawl for All, a shoot fight tournament. Yes, they intended him to win, even though the results were not predetermined, the fights were real, and they included guys like Dan Severn (a UFC fighter; he completely clowned the Godfather in the first round, but dropped out of the tournament, claiming he had nothing to prove, though since participation was voluntary in the first place, I assume he was pressured to drop out), Steve Blackman (trained in escrima and tae kwon do as part of physical therapy after recovering from two years of malaria and dysentery that nearly killed him; he won his first fight, but was injured and had to drop out), and Marc Mero (an amateur boxer who won several awards prior to his wrestling career; he lost to Steve Blackman, but since Blackman was injured, he advanced to the next round, only to lose to Bradshaw). They thought that since Williams had a really good-looking (fake) punch, he'd win (granted, he was an accomplished wrestler in college, but that was seriously part of the reason they thought it'd work out). He even won his first round fight...only to get KO'd in the next round by Bart fucking Gunn, who went on to win the tournament. There was supposed to be a $100,000 prize for the winner, but according to Bob Holly, they gave it to Williams before the tournament even started. Instead Bart Gunn got to get the shit punched out of him by Butterbean at Wrestlemania XV (according to Holly, this was punishment for beating Williams), several wrestlers sustained injuries that kept them from working (Blackman and Road Warrior Hawk), led to them leaving WWF/E (Savio Vega), or straight up forced them to retire (Brakkus). And of course, Dr. Death never got over. All in all, it was an enormous shitshow.

This is probably my favorite wrestling of all time, I bought it maybe a decade ago when I was buying a bunch of Japanese Sega Saturn games. Too bad they can't understand all the intricacies of the systems and don't have the move list that came with the game. There are lots of combos both from strikes and from grapple plus moves you can only do when your damage meter meets certain percentages.
