That is the thing about smash, the more your bring in to the fold the more people want to see in it. Like the desire to see more playable characters just keeps increasing the more sakurai actually bring in officially. It's like a feedback loop gone wrong. i have a theory as to why kirby was the sole survivor - kirby is probably the best beginner character (at least in my opinion). New players who want to check out the single-player mode can learn how to play starting with kirby, slowly making their way through the roster as they progress through the campaign.

I mean think about it. It makes perfect sense! Crafted by the creator himself! The ability to copy the abilities of many! Saved the galaxy from so many world-ending evils in his lifetime! Has a sick ride that's known to screw over many who dares get in its path! Been here since the beginning and here to see it through to the end!

There is no winning for Sakurai, he could put every single videogame character in and there would still be some asshole going "Sakurai is such a bad person, he hasn't put in my OC character. Ten years ago when I was in second grade I sent him a letter with a picture of my OC drawn on the greasy paper bag I kept my lunch in and also told him I put a curse on his mom and the only way to undo it is to add my OC to smash and he still hasn't done it, he must really hate his mom, huh." The best move is just to block the assholes, like Kamiya does.

I have to agree with Pat. My reaction legitimately was, "What do mean there's still no Golden Sun? This is the fifth game, they have to know by now."

One thing that wasn't mentioned at all that I think is a little important too. The backlash against the particularity ungrateful Smash fans has also unfortunate resulted in a bit of TOO MUCH defense on the other direction. Some conversations now make it seem like you are not allowed to say anything negative about Ultimate because "Oh so you're just upset because you didn't get what you want and you don't appreciate Sakurai" which is an incorrect assumption. It is still perfectly okay to have some disappointments about this game, because EVERY game has problems and nothing is perfect. My point is that you can appreciate this game while still criticizing it or it just being a "not my thing" thing for you. If you read this and think "no shit" well that's good to here. If you read this and didn't think that at first, hopefully you do now.

FE Characters added in Sm4sh 1. Robin - Less sword moves and focus on magic attacks and a unique gimmick, I'd say creative enough. 2. Lucina -- Echo added cause of extra time so we'll just give her a pass. 3. Roy - One of the DLC veterans added, however most of his moves are still borrowed form the other characters with a handful of new ones. So he probably was made fairly fast and not the same amount of time was used. 4. Corrin - DLC character, added for promotion, her own moves but they aren't super interested. My point is I think people exaggerate the FE thing. It's fine if you don't care about FE and/or sword characters, but i strongly disagree with your "time could've spent on a better concept" because as I just showed off, really Corrin is the only one who probably had the most time devoted and was the least interested, but had to be added anyway cause of promotion which sucks but eh whatcha gonna do.

Yeah it made me a lil upset that everyone isn't satisfied with what Sakurai is giving us. There is an unbelievable amount of content in the game, how can someone be so selfish to look at a 75 man roster and say, "nah, thats not good enough" its so disheartening to see. When I was watching people's reactions when the Nintendo Direct dropped, I couldnt believe what Simmons from YoVideogames had to say about the direct. Instead of being hyped about it, he chose to be salty over Pirahna Plant being in the game. Went as far as calling Mr. Sakurai a dumbass for " thinking anyone else but his dumbass would enjoy Pirahna Plant being in the game." Rather than being salty over what isn't in the game, people should be happy with what we "do" have. If out of 75 characters, you dont have a favorite/preferred character to pick, then this game isnt for you.

Ken also does the parry stance when he does shippu jinrai. That little detail was the hypest I got during the direct. Guile and Akira were great too.

Was anyone actually surprised? Sakurai has demonstrably loved to favor games and characters he was personally involved with. Kirby's one of the original Smash characters, was up with fucking Mario as the initial character choice in Subspace Emissary, and he was one of the survivors at the end of it. Of course it would be Kirby, if anyone was going to be the initial sole hero of this game.
