I picture a prospective GSX-R owner calling for a quote, the rep typing all the pertinent information into an ancient CRT terminal and hitting Enter, then waiting for the machine to think. Then, after a long, awkward silence over the phone, the words appear on the screen in big, green letters: SQUID MACHINE: RATE ACCORDINGLY.

Just to give you a comparison from outside the U.S. I live in Ireland and have a multi-bike policy covering 6 bikes: - CBR 250RR MC22 - VFR 400R NC30 - KTM 660 SMC - Ducati 998 - KTM RC8 - Ducati 1199s With all the bells and whistles and no excess on the policy it costs €1,400 for the year.

I checked several models before eventually buying a 1299S. Surprisingly the 959 was about 60% more (State Farm) than either the Pani R or 1299. All I can conclude is that younger buyers typically buy the smaller bike and crash them more often, while the more expensive models are usually owned by older more experienced riders.

I had one insurance company that was charging me less for my Ducati 899 than a CBR 500 lol. Apparently people who buy Ducati and BMW are more responsible than the Japanese bikes because ours cost more and take longer to fix so they say.

2016 Triumph Bonneville T120 $383 per year $500 deductible for comprehensive only. No collision. $25K/50K for liability. 2002 Ducati 998 Liability only. $217 per year. $25K/$50K The funny part is that my wife's 2015 150cc Vespa costs exactly the same as my Triumph Bonneville for the same coverage. Even though it's worth half as much and goes 1/3 as fast. The kicker is, we live in 10017. That's Manhattan NYC. 37 year old airline pilot with 10+ years riding.

Ten years ago Progressive wanted close to 9,000 for a year for a cbr1000rr in California, for someone in mid 20's with a DUI and a couple of speeding tickets. Other insurance did it for 2000/year. Shop around many insurance companies love to rip off.

The GM of the dealer I bought my bike from (Honda, BMW and Ducati dealer) told me from the start that the Honda was going to be the more expensive because of the same reasons you mention in this video. The CBR1000rr is the most stolen bike and used by a younger crowd. And the Panigale and S1000rr is ridden by more experienced, older riders. After getting quoted by 3 different insurance companies, all 3 had the Ducati and BMW cheaper than the Honda.

I'm new to the channel but thanks for the research. I've been trying to wrap my head around insurance company and the prices they charge for a while now and seem to have found the opposite to what you have. -been riding since 2015 -currently 29 yo -london, UK. (Though my 2nd bike is insured to an address outside London as it's the only way I can afford any type of premium) For example: -2015 r1 quoted me @ £560 -2015 s1000rr @ £1690 -1199 Panigale (value of under £10k) @ £458 -1299 Panigale @ £8760 (no that's not a typo). It's just mental and majorly effecting my choice in next purchase. This was all through the same price comparison site though, perhaps speaking to an operator would return different results...

I have no clue how I got unsubbed from this channel?! I'm back tho lol Also a side note try doing insurance on the Aprilia RSV4 mine was 1/2 the cost of other liter bikes because insurance companies don't have a lot of stats on them and ppl typically turn them into track bikes. I pay 110 a month for full coverage on mine I'm 22 with 2 speeding tickets

Interesting comparison. I oddly did something similar on a online quote software for a big insurance company up here in Canada. And I came to a similar conclusion except for the BMW. All the 1000s no matter age falls in stupid expensive category and for some reason the 1299 will full coverage is as much as a 600 with basic liability. Make sense of that. But I know what I'm buying for sure now. Thanks for the videos

25 in Belgium, 1299 Panigale 2017, no previous tickets or traffic violations (those don't have an impact on insurance here anyway, only when you cause an accident). Minimum insurance required by law is €390/year Full coverage with all the bells and whistles, even insurance for gear included, is €1150/year.

The state makes a massive difference in cost. My '15 R3 was $450~ a year in VA. Just moving to CA and the same insurance wanted $850~ a year. Age 30, 4 years riding (probably 50k miles), numerous motorcycle courses completed. '18 Street Triple RS and '18 Ducati SuperSport S, $3100 a year, full coverage, $1k deductible w/ Esurance. 1 total loss (Yamaha R3, at fault, solo incident). That's with Esurance, who was the cheapest I could find. Dairyland wanted $17k a year just for the Ducati! I'm curious to see if insurance gets any cheaper once I pay both bikes off in the next month or two.

Okay it also has to do with your STATE as well... so for starters I'm 21, 2 points on my license from 18 and live in MI, I wanted to buy a 1299, ALL the insurance companies want (are you ready for this) 1000-1150 A MONTH!!!!! Okay so now I'm living in Colorado but still have my insurance, license ect in MI, apparently you don't need to be a official resident in CO to get insurance from there. Ready for this jaw dropper? State Farm wanted 362 a month. I about shit a brick. All the quotes I got are for Full coverage, due to I would need a lone on the bike, Cheers!

Wait so you'd be paying half the bike's worth a year that way... I imagine it's illegal to drive without insurance there too, if so, why don't companies simply offer "paper" insurance? Pay 200 bucks a year just to ride legally and they don't cover anything. Are they forced to offer some sort of minimum coverage by law?
@LordSephirothus
@LordSephirothus 7 жыл бұрын
Chris Fokjohn So in Michigan at least, if you have a loan on vehicle, you have to have full coverage insurance. In my case probably due to my age it's is totally unrealistic. If you don't have a loan on it, you don't need full coverage. I have a 08 Ducati Hypermotard that I bought for 5k cash, full coverage was 942, plpd which is the minimum I can get (only covers bodily injury) was 27 bucks a month!! So I went with that needless to say... I can afford a new bike, just not the insurance.

I laugh at all of those numbers! Laugh I say. Good discussion though. It's amazing how misunderstood this subject is and most fail to realize that there are literally thousands of factors that determine your premium. Here's mine: 2015 Ducati Monster 821 - Bodily Injury / Property Damage $25,000 each person / $50,000 each accident / $25,000 each accident - Personal Injury Protection - Medical, work loss etc. - Comprehensive Deductible - Theft, vandalism etc. $500 - Collision Deductible $500 Total Premium $118.78 Keep in mind that I also have a car, house and personal items all on the same policy so there are discounts. Combine that with my age (41), no prior claims or traffic record. This is State Farm in Kentucky.
@ridderc97
@ridderc97 7 жыл бұрын
Thousands...don't think so. Then again, the US have some really stupid insurance systems and laws, so who knows what those insurance companies can come up with. And now i'm actually really confused about your total premium, is that 118,76 per month or per year?
@HoldFastFilms
@HoldFastFilms 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, thousands. Consider age, gender, traffic history, claims, different companies, location etc. Multiply that and it can easily create thousands of possibilities. My premium is for a year. But again, I am older with no record and I insure a lot of other stuff through the same company so there are significant discounts.

Fireblades, Gixxers, and the R1 get stolen at a higher rate than a Panigale and the BMW. I would suspect that's the reason.

They only pay 30.000 maximum, no matter what happens? So if you run your Duc with 480 mph into a gas station, causing a huge explosion leaving hundreds of people dead, or at least injured, they just will pay a thirty fckng thousand? What kind of fisher price insurances are these? In Germany coverage for any damages to third parties is at least 100 Million € with almost the most crappy insurance you can get.

We'll see what happens once ill be shopping next spring. My neighbor just got a BMW R1200GS. 179monthly for insurance. I told him if my bike will be more than 150 monthly i wont get one. I cant be buying out a bike from the dealer as well as paying equally same payment to the insurance.

15,000/30,000 injury medical coverage must be in California, in Washington it is state mandated 150,000/300,000 for a full coverage. By the way, I ride without an insurance, comprehensive coverage is not required in this state for motorcycles, unless you take a loan from a bank to buy it, then bank will require it.

I didn't have comprehensive on my SV650 when I lived in WA, but I did have liability. I got pulled over once and the Fish and Wildlife officer (dumbass) that pulled me over didn't know bikes didn't require insurance in WA. I said I had insurance but wasn't going to show it him. He radioed a state trooper to see if I was lying...

@ridderc97
@ridderc97 7 жыл бұрын
You actually payed THAT much?!?! At that pricepoint ya might as well consider driving around without insurance for a while depending on how high the chance is that authorities would catch you driving around "illigaly", even then it might take a few stops to get to 17k in fines. Then again, US has a rather stupid system for allowing insurance companies to know about your driving mistakes/history/fines etc.. Nothing like that where i live, insurance company just needs to know about engine displacement, power, my age and vehicle value.
@ricardonmoreira
@ricardonmoreira 7 жыл бұрын
I live in the centre of Lyon (France), so the chances were pretty pretty high. Already got some fines for non homologated mirrors, having no indicators at the front (removed cause i thought it ruins the bike's look), and for the full akrap exhaust.. But please bear in mind that i bought the bike before even having a license. It's my first bike, and considering the value of the bike and the new license thing, i had no chance
