moul-ri (lree) you have to sound it out and give them examples that they use in their own language. For example: Mao (moul) and ri (lee sounds like li in the word link, the flick of the tounge is used to pronounce ri)

+JediMaster Orion I feel like that would help a lot of bilingual people to say Maori properly. Most people (and Maori's) bless their souls just cant wrap their tongues around a simple sounding vowel. Ah not Aye Eh not Ee Ee not Eye Oor not Oh Eew not You people cant pronounce a simple place name correctly its funny.

Oh I was really cut after that so ever since then far, I've been practicing and I think I have da tounge thing suss out, chur e te parata tena mo te ma-o-rrrrri

I can't believe the number of people complaining that people who have NEVER been to NZ can't pronounce Mäori words- when the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajökull erupted, no Maori could pronounce it until I broke it into syllables and said it very very slowly. Not being Mäori, but growing up in Mäori communities, a large family and a large church, I know this humour and these moments! The potato duty, the names - you learn a person's Mäori name like Te Rangiamaru, then everyone calls him Tank...
