Take away the arbitrary and perceived need for “dark and gritty” and the fixation on over-the-top action and fight scenes... and that feeling you’re describing is, at his core, what Superman is all about. That what Superman is SUPPOSED to be about. People always complain “Oh Superman is too perfect! He’s too powerful! He’s too good!” The point isn’t that he’s powerful or perfect. The point is that good always has a chance. That things can turn out right. That’s what “Hope” means. That just maybe everything will be alright.

Christopher Reeve will always be the definitive Superman. He was a symbol of hope to millions of people. He made Superman the iconic figure he is today. That smile at the end always gets me emotional. It’s as if he’s looking at you telling you, “I’m watching over you.” Even after his accident, he lived out his life inspiring others about perseverance and being an advocate for stem cell research. He would be proud to hear that there have been some people who were once confined to a wheelchair who have gone on to walk again. Fly high Christopher Reeve, forever our Superman. 💙❤️

That spin, or shive, could have easily killed the guy.
@danielschoch48812 жыл бұрын
@@deborahthompson849 Technically the hits given to Clark by Rocky should not have made him bleed so much. And smashing Rockys head like this could have caused brain damage. The two battles are measured with two scales. First it appears to be horrific as clark suffers damage. Lois shouts at rocky. All are shocked like a greys anatomy scene. Yet in the seconsd scene where Rocky gets hits who could cause damage, it is played in a goofy or funny way. Like Bud spencer movies. And do not forget Clark started the confrontation because of a sitting issue. Maybe Rocky is a macho and had taken his seat but Clark was no idol model in that scene either. THey could have gone simply to another table. So it appears bully vs Bully. Rocky could not know if CLark was a dangerous, violent person the first time, wanting to start a battle outside because of a chair. So he had some reason to defend himself.
@darrenmiles-morland80382 жыл бұрын
@@danielschoch4881 You've missed the point entirely. The reason why there was a battle over a chair to begin with was because when Clark was at the diner with Lois the first time around Rocky came and sat himself down beside Lois when Clark went into the rest room, even though he jolly well knew that Clark was with her. He asks Lois if he can buy her something to eat, simply to get under Clark's skin. When Clark came out of the rest room and saw Rocky with Lois he says to him that the seat next to Lois is already taken. Rocky responds by saying that your seat's in there, four-eyes (in reference to the rest room). When Clark responds by saying that someone ought to teach Rocky some manners, that's when the ensuing battle begins. Clark was simply standing up for his woman. Rocky was the antagonist. Clark came back to the diner in this scene to give Rocky a taste of his own medicine, not necessarily to extract revenge. He achieves that by giving Rocky a very bruised ego. And maybe a sore head and hand to boot.
@danielschoch48812 жыл бұрын
@@darrenmiles-morland8038 Whatever. Would you defend Clark if it would be another person in another movie doing this? Or are you simply defending him because he is superman. Do not miss a thing. rocky is a bully sure. But going to another table would have solved the problem, so starting the battle or trying to beat rocky on his own field was not really standing for his woman in a good way.

To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? He that has ears to hear, let him hear. Are you saved? Where will you go when you die? Heaven or hell? The Gospel, which means the Good News is the news that God Almighty, the Creator came in the flesh as Jesus Christ to take away the sin of the world. The one God is a trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Son came and laid down his own life to save ours. His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for our redemption with his own blood. On the third day he rose from dead and offers the gift of salvation and forgiveness to those that repent and trust in him. Although God's creation was created perfect, having no death, sickness and disease, the creation became corrupted through Adam and Eve in them disobeying God. In this rebellion the creation became fallen through the curse of sin and mankind became separated from God. This world is fallen, but God offers reconciliation to him through his provision at the cross. Ultimately God will restore his creation to perfection when he returns but those that who reject his offer of redemption will remain condemned by their sins and go to hell. John 1:1,14 KJV In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and THE WORD WAS GOD. [14] And THE WORD WAS MADE FLESH, and dwelt among us, 1 John 3:8 KJV He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Isaiah 9:6 KJV For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty GOD, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. John 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and THE WORLD KNEW HIM NOT.

@MasterOnion North Yup. Same here. I'll probably never have an opportunity to use the phrase because I live in the wrong area. I learned here on KZbin and then researched it myself, that in the area centered on Rochester, NY, diners often offer something called a "garbage plate". This is a large amount of food for a low price. It's popular with college students. The plate typically includes fried potatoes, macaroni salad, beans, topped with hot dogs, and slathered with meat sauce or ketchup. It originated in Rochester about 110 years ago. It's not fine dining, it's fuel. So now, Superman's comment makes more sense to me. I always thought he was insulting the diner, but he's not. "Gimme another plate of this garbage" doesn't mean what it sounds like it means. You learn something every day. Lol. Maybe someday I'll be in Rochester and can use the phrase.

@fourierthejunglist Thats a helluva lot of BS you just typed out. When Clark gave up his powers to be with Lois, he didn't become a 90 pound weakling. He still had the same musculature that he had as Superman...just not super-charged by yellow Solar radiation. Simply put, he had as much muscle as Christopher Reeves put on to play the role (and he was in great shape, with some solid muscle.) So Clark didn't get beat down because he was out-muscled. He was at least around the same strength level as the trucker. Clark was beaten because he had no fighting skill. He was beaten because he had no experience about what NOT to do in a fight. He was beaten because he had never really experienced the pain and shock of being violently assaulted. The crutch of his powers had let him bypass all of that life experience. "Fair" was simple. It was the human-strong trucker with his aggression and fight experience against human-strong Clark (who was no weakling) with his lesser aggression and lack of fight experience. He hadn't learned what most men learn growing up: You don't pick fights with someone when you can't back up your words. As far as powered Clark returning to the diner to "settle things"...get even using his Vastly unfair advantage,I thought it was cowardly and ignoble on his part. I guess that's what Zach Snyder homagrd in a similar scene from Man of Steel. What did it prove for Clark to use his powers to beat and humiliate the bullying trucker? What satisfaction could he have gained from that? The only satisfaction that can be gained from a fight is if there's a chance you could lose but you persevere. It would have been a much better scene if Superman had depowered himself (after he and Lois killed the Phantom Zone criminals because...he killed them) due to reasons. He had the police pick up Luthor, had Lois wait at the fortress and went back to the diner as Clark. Then he would call out the trucker, NOT make the mistake of turning his back on him and we'd see the beginning of a fight. The next scene would show Clark returning to the Fortress bruised and bloodied, his glasses broken...but with a satisfied smile on his face that screamed, "You should see the other guy." I would've applauded that because Clark would have gone back to have an actual fair fight against the trucker at his human-equivalent strength and at the risk of his safety...and WON. Then he could limp past Lois to get his powers back again. And she'd say something like, "Men..." The way they did that scene in the movie had no risk. It was like something a bully would do. And yes, I see the irony that I wrote a lot of my own BS too.

Assuming he's not in orbit, he must be propelling himself forward, even slightly, and that would tend to induce some movement of the cape at least. Then again, there could be solar wind and electric charge effect coming into play as well, depending upon what the cape is made of, or a side effect of the force that allows him to fly in the first place. Of course, this is a movie. If you're going to analyze it that much, why not ask the question "Who is he looking at, and why is he smiling at them?" When my dad took me to these films, when this part came up, my dad would lean in and whisper "now get ready, he's gonna look at you and smile, so you wave back." As Superman would smile at the screen, I'd wave like an idiot. I loved it so much as a kid. I still think of those moments fondly whenever I watch these movies.

Which brings up the question, "If he (Garbage #1) hates it (Garbage #2) so much, why keep coming back?" Maybe because it's the only place that gives him the freedom to step on people and walk all over them and say anything to them at will whether it hurts them or not. In other words, it allows him to be his true-to-life self: a bona fide bully. Either that or he's too lazy to drive to a much distant diner that serves better food. Either way, based on his character, he deserves exactly what he gets.

The beautiful thing about this scene is that it shows Clarks human side. He was after all raised by humans. All he did was right the wrong that was done to him by a bully. Balance the scales so to speak.

A Superman that gets revenge on the bully that beat him up? Not the Superman we need. Superman is supposed to stand for something greater not something petty. This scene is placed for the audience to feel better about what happened earlier in the movie because we, humans, want vengeance. Superman is supposed to be the best of us. This scene, like the Henry cavil scene with the Semi truck, just doesn’t fit.
@Heisenbob893 Жыл бұрын
@@DarthEyesDragon he did that because he was garbage
@kithranen1542 Жыл бұрын
@@DarthEyesDragon I get what you're saying here. Superman should be above such petty squabbles. He should be handling international issues, brokering peace on a national level. However, I don't think this was about personal revenge for Superman, or even for Clark Kent. I think this was about setting things right in both the largest, and the smallest stages. We can clearly see that the bully has been terrorizing this local diner for some time, as everyone is afraid of him and his bad attitude. That is, until Superman, in the guise of Clark Kent, reappears to set things right. We can clearly see the relief and satisfaction in the patrons' faces when the bully gets his comeuppance. So I say it's not about revenge, but even more inspiration we humans can take from what Superman stands for. Yes, on the world stage by removing the threat of General Zod. But also on the local, everyday stage, where we see the same type of bullying and terrorizing.
