There’s a shit ton of actors in bit parts in both Star Wars and Superman, along with other big budget flicks like Batman and even Flash Gordon. Mostly it’s due to all these films being filmed in England, despite being American flicks. Basically they used a lot of the expatriate American actors living over in England. Other shared actors include John Ratzenberger, Shane Rimmer, the guy who plays the Y-Wing leader in the original Death Star battle (“Loosen up!!’”), who plays the prison guard that Lex Luthor fools (“I said lights out Luthor!!!). Of course there’s the king of bit parts, William Hootkins, who plays Eckhart in Batman, Porkins in Star Wars, Munson in Flash Gordon, and random arms dealer in Superman IV. One other bit of trivia, a few of these actors made multiple appearances in the Donnerverse films. Ratzenberger as the nuclear missile controller in STM and NASA controller in SM2, and Shane Rimmer as the other NASA controller and a cop in SM3. Heck, even the Admiral Motti dude in this video was in STM but as a TV news anchor, so it’s possible it’s supposed to be the same guy (but it probably isn’t).

2:02 The comment she makes here, “look, they need machines to fly!”, has never made sense to me. They, as Kryptonians, only have superpowers on Earth as a result of the Sun being more nourishing then the star gave them on their home planet. So they couldn’t fly on Krypton! So why would it surprise them that humans needed machines to fly when they themselves would have needed them to fly on Krypton?
@KarlA-vk4kn4 жыл бұрын
It's a film based on a comic. What's there to make sense of?

I thought she said, "They made machines to fly."

Well the Executioner/police agent from the TV edit appeared to be flying, though its possible he had some other propulsion out of shot
@TheTallMan503 жыл бұрын
She probably said that because a helicopter looks and sounds primitive compared to the flying craft on Krypton.

The humorous vein running through all the Superman movies was just priceless. We see elements of it in this scene too.

I was blown away by the donner cut the first time i saw it. So many new scenes. Terence Stamp is terrific as Zod. I like how this new version eliminated the weird powers the Lester version gave them. No finger beams or super cellophane.

These three terrified me as a kid, and most of it had to do with that scene where Ursa kills that astronaut. This movie single-handedly scared me away from superhero movies until sometime a couple years ago. And now look; Superman is now one of my favorite characters, period.

They could have made Ursa's "blow them a kiss" scene so much more impressive if she had flown up in front of the helicopter and held it in midair. She would have looked at the men flying the helicopter looking at her in stunning disbelief and then pursed her lips in a kiss at them before using her super breath to blow the helicopter from the sky.

Notice that they cut out a lot of the chatter from the townspeople, which is a good thing. I remember when the jeep crashed someone offscreen said, "Hey buddy, you alright?" They seriously need to put this movie back together with a better cut using all of the available footage. The Donner cut was okay, but it still needs a lot of help.
@marcusbarnes60327 жыл бұрын
True. Plus there is a cut in which Non wants to take on the army and Zod says "Very well, you may try" right before he used heat vision. This scene was shown in the ABC TV version.
@chrismarshva6 жыл бұрын
I am familiar with the Donner Cut. Also human police or military, maybe Canadians, take the neutralized super villains into custody. They have a lot to learn about Earth prisons.
@MGSBigBoss776 жыл бұрын
So agreed MasterJediDude. Warners was so sloppy, in that they gave a cult hit movie like Ridley's Scott's Blade Runner a few million dollars to fix it up with its Final Cut Edition in 2007. But practically gave Superman II: The Richard Donner cut hardly anything to truly make it a true Special Edition or Director's cut of any kind!

For understandable reasons Donner's wishes were respected on this version and he wasnted it to have as little Lester material as possible. Lester had reason to use as little Donner material as possible. The best possible version would try to be objective and find a middle ground, but who would WB pick to do that?
