There was similar discourse surrounding Robert Pattinson as Batman. I remember the memes: “Is this Batman going to sparkle too?” “He looks more like Robin than Batman.” “His voice sounds terrible in the trailer.” “Robert refused to work out” “His mask looks like the Adam west Batman mask.” That movie is highly successful. More so than MoS and BvS COMBINED. Let’s also not forget Superman’s Trailer is in the top 5 most viewed trailers (within 24 hours) and every movie above it made 1-2 Billion dollars at the box office. The odds are not in your favor with your box office predictions.

I was critical because I care about Superman. If that shot came out of a Snyder film (or any other director, including Gunn) then it would be the same. That no one at WB/DC caught it, (or saw it and didn't care) only confirms my fear of QC from the top. It's one 3 second shot but it matters. David Corenswet is a handsome man but we haven't gotten an image that shows that. That's weird and off-putting.

relax, it's only a 3 second clip from a teaser to a 2 hour long movie. they have a whole year to make adjustments and seeing as how Gunn is acknowledging the complaints, it's likely that he'll make some minor changes. really, what we should be worried about is if the story is good or not.

If I'm honest, I like the smooth flying a lot more than the jerky and wobbly flying in Man of Steel. In Man of Steel, speed seems very artificial due to the constant wobbling. In calm flight, like in this TV commercial, I feel the speed much more clearly. Just because of the fast moving background, the fluttering of the hair and the cape. I feel the speed much more strongly than in Man of Steel. At least when I compare the close-ups. And it doesn't look as fisheye-like as the Snyder cultists claim. It's just bullshit

There’s no cgi on this flying scene it’s all practical and it’s a wide angle camera being used to film that’s why his face looks like that combined with the amount of air and g-force being applied to David corenswets face. Once we see the full scene in context it’ll make more sense and look 1000 times better

I planned to watch only the teaser that was released, but unfortunately I just didn’t feel wowed by it, there was some stuff I liked but overall it just didn’t hit the spot. I just don’t want to be spoiled too much as most trailers today, particularly superhero ones seem to spoil everything and release far too many trailers. But I feel it’s necessary for me to watch the full trailer in the hopes it does what the teaser should have done. So far the only thing that got me excited was the poster and some of the images from the on set shoot

Jump the Gunn here, I'm a filmmaker/photographer in real life. The only thing wrong with the shot is that it's a wide angle lens. It's very similar to that shot of Adam Warlock flying in GOTG 3. Its a distinctive style of the cinematographer. Personally I don't like his style but this particular superman shot doesn't need to be analysed to death on whether it's AI, colour grading, VFX, etc. Its just the effects of a wide angle lens.

The cape flapping looks amazing and seeing the yellow S in the previous shot is refreshing. It's also refreshing to hear that the footage in the background isn't CGI as I feel there has been too much CGI in previous versions. There are close ups in Superman Returns where you can clearly see it isn't Brandon Routh other shots where you can barely see the character (when it is him the shots look great in my opinion). MoS did use an awful lot of CGI, which I know is required in the superhero genre, however it would be nice to see more practical effects. Really enjoying the Road to Superman series, can't believe it's half a year away now. I’m a fan of DC and I’m looking forward to it hopefully being a good film, but I do hope that all the shots aren’t like that. The thing that I’ve noticed is, it’s like his head doesn’t match the environment, even if he’s not affected by the high-speed wind in his face with his eyes completely opened he would at least be probing instead of staring to the corner of his eye, which makes it look like it’s cross eyed, even if it’s not. Unfortunately, it kinda looks like a bobble head at the moment. I like the analysis though.

I am a professional cinematographer, and the Superman flying shots look absolutely terrible, unprofessional, goofy, and unflattering. You don't use a wide angle lens with such a drastic concave on it - it distorts the facial features - and with a character like superman, you don't want to do that because it destroys the illusion of the man of steel, who should embody almost a greek god like stature. Its a terrible decision, and this movie will suffer greatly from these amature mistakes.

While I do think the criticism in general is fair, and it has definitely hurt, not helped the film even if it is a second long; it really cheeses me off that people are now all of a sudden defending Man of Steel - constantly comparing the posters and finished shots to this slightly blurry teaser of an unfinished film is hugely unfair. Why has Man of Steel overnight become the gold standard of what a Superman movie should be?? I liked the movie, but the Superman Snyder gave us was never truly Superman and was polarising from the very beginning. These same people would’ve been the ones to complain and pick apart MoS when it first came out, about the shaky cam, the 'violent' way he flew, the muted colours and pulling up images of previous iterations to show how much better they were, but now all of a sudden Man of Steel is the bestest Superman movie eva?? Make it make sense.
