Almost all things are really cheap and value-for-money buys compared to Singapore where I live. Here we pay almost 3 times as much. That's why I love to shop in Malaysia. I target their greens most because they are super fresh, straight from the farms. And I love the Malaysian people as they are sincerely nice and friendly. They have better customer service than here in Singapore.

If u guys ever come to Melaka (one of the state in Malaysia), take note that there is a "no plastic" policy for groceries (excluding cooked food/beverages and clothings) in major supermarket like Tesco, Giant and Aeon. They do provide plastic bags in smaller stores like 7-eleven and "mini" market. Any bags provided in Melaka must be either paper bags or biodegradable plastic bags (though some shops tend to ignore that). #fun fact.

Nice video mates! Totally different from the usual food hunting vids. This is proper mint! I'm a Malaysian by the way and these are my personal favorites (actually many Malaysians vouch on them too): 1. Best bread: Gardenia. You can find them everywhere except in Sabah and Sarawak. If you fancy "dessert" breads, get the Butterscotch ones. Drop dead delish! 2. Curry powder mix: Baba's or Alagappas and make sure they're the extra hot/spicy ones. You won't be disappointed, except when you're back in the UK and you can't find any of them ha! 3. Chili sauce: Lingham's. Legends drink them for breakfast. 4. Coconut milk: M&S. You got that one spot on! There must be a drip of Malaysian blood in you guys somewhere. 5. Baked beans: Ayam brand. The same brand as your cans of tuna. Most Malaysians love their baked beans thick and goopy like the Americans but personally, I prefer Heinz's because English baked beans are runnier and soupier, and I don't know why that is supposed to be a good thing but it works really well for me. 6. Fresh Milk: Goodday. Proper creamy goodness. Dutchlady isn't that bad either. If you want a more "grassy" taste, then Farm Fresh is the way to go. If you want more "exotic" stuffs you can go and find them at Jaya Grocer or LuLu Hypermarket. If you're on a sugar binge, head straight to LuLu. Their Arab pastries are the best! Cheerio!
@AlwaysaFriday7 жыл бұрын
Heya, thank you so much! Thanks so much for all the info, what an awesome comment! We've visited Jaya Grocer and wow that place is insane, lots of American brands we found. As a Malaysian who earns income in RM, price is vital in daily consumption of goods & products. There isn't a particular hypermarket or supermarket offering the cheapest price of goods. Luckily I am staying in an area surrounding by Mydin, Giant, TF Value Mart, Tesco & Econsave (all within 1km. NSK unfortunately is 12km further away). Therefore I am able to be a rationale consumer comparing prices, especially with the help of hp app such as Smartshoppers. Btw if u obtain a Tesco card, u will earn points when u spend in Tesco. The points will be subsequently converted into cash voucher plus additional discount voucher for goods u commonly purchase.

After reading many of the comments it seems everyone forgot that what's affordable for one person won't be for someone else. It's like that everywhere in the world. Literally everywhere. Even with adding about 30% to prices for U.S. conversions most of those items are still so much cheaper than here in the U.S. I wish I could get Oreos and other items that cheap. I will say I'm amazed at how many big supermarkets there are around the world with brands that I didn't know were in other countries. Huge supermarkets seem like such a U.S. thing to do, but it's fun to see what other cities &/or countries do & have. I couldn't even get garlic that cheap. It's usually between $3.00 & $5.00 for a pound of garlic. That's expensive for something that's easy to grow & you can grow a lot in a small space.

It's quite easy.. The kampung folks have contracts with companies in KL now, so the kampung eggs have brands and packaging and everything :) eshop.tesco.com.my/groceries/en-GB/products/7070760926

Oh mate, I just got back home to Malaysia after living in London for 3 years and I can honestly say, it is indeed much cheaper here compared to U.K. But I do miss the cheaper alcoholic drinks back there since I usually go to Wetherspoon almost every day for drinks as it was just around the corner from my place hahaha. But 24 hours eateries here? Omg I so miss a lot them whilst I was in London. No more frozen pizza for midnight snack lol
@AlwaysaFriday7 жыл бұрын
Haha love it! Yes Wetherspoons are great for cheap drinks! We are going to miss 24 hour restaurants when we're back in the UK so much! Thanks for watching!
@smissions73407 жыл бұрын
OH YES. This country SO needs 24hr eateries everywhere.

Great video.... love shopping in tesco especially if i were looking for western ready made ingredients like pasta sauce etc.... i know how cheap Malaysia can be to foreigners... i was studying in the UK and living there for 1 year with my family... i dont go to tesco or asda... a bit pricey... lidl or aldi would be better for my pocket. My weekly budget is about £25. For a family of three. But that would be without meat or chicken. I am glad u enjoy shopping in Malaysia... glad to be back.. 🤗
@AlwaysaFriday6 жыл бұрын
Yes Aldi and Lidl are so good! £25 for a family of three is amazing, very impressive! Thanks for watching.

i must agree on ur say about the pricing of milk in Malaysia. i lived in Liverpool during my younger days and when i got back to Malaysia in 1997 i cant find milk with the exact taste i was used to in the UK(that time) . Nowadays there are already milk with the taste im used to but can only find whenever i go to Peninsular. Here in East Malaysia,i still cant find milk with the same taste and price is much higher. Anyway, my friends from abroad like KAYA spread or coconut egg jam. u guys should try them!
@ZRMX38697 жыл бұрын
Tesco pricings are a bit cheaper than grocery shops in East Malaysia @Sabah. :( So i cant guess which item costs double digits but i think it is the Naturel Butter...
@AlwaysaFriday7 жыл бұрын
Ah that's so interesting, funnily enough we've never actually been to Liverpool in the UK haha! Interesting about the milk also! We love the Kaya here, especially the Pandan Kaya! Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment!

Definitely a little bit more expensive than here in Vietnam, but it looks like the grocery selection is a bit better there. Closer to Thailand type of selection, which is great! Looking forward to seeing Malaysia. :D

Free range eggs - It's called 'kampung' (village) chicken eggs. The reason why it's called kampung chicken eggs is that the chickens are allowed to roam free.

Hello you both. Wan from Malaysia. About the eggs, you must be looking for the white shelled-eggs right? We normally dont sell those here, but the brown shell is quite the same but less healthier. So thats that

one of the reason why the food are cheap (apart from the exchange rate) is because they are made in local manufacturing factory. Malaysian government encourage manufacturing and for locals to buy Malaysian made stuffs.

Those Malaysians who are always grumbling and thinking they’re not getting a fair deal in this country and always looking at it as the glass being half empty, watch this video! The past government has done so much to make this country a nice place to live in, so be grateful! Stop your whining and think instead, what have YOU done for your country. Great job guys! I studied in the UK for six years in the 70s and love the UK. Free range or kampung eggs should can be got from Aeon or one of the more upmarket supermarts. We love Aeon ie Jusco in One Utama. It’s great; so great that we can spend hours there and jokingly refer it as our second home. Great eating spots in the supermarket too. Hope you’ll do a video of your trip there very soon.
