It’s very dangerous to teach young kids to be afraid of calling 911. If heaven forbid something happened and the parent was incapacitated they need to be willing and able to call for help. If you tell them stuff like “the police will take you away” all the time they’ll be too afraid to call.
@elvickRULES10 ай бұрын
Beyond that what happens when they're old enough to know better? The only thing keeping them in line is going to evaporate eventually and you'll have nothing at all to handle older kids and teenagers who have arguably way worse issues to deal with.

After my separation, my ex would call the real police to " report" our 15 yo son's resistant behaviour. To the point that the police told him to start parenting his kids himself. My son is now 26 and super anxious of anything in uniform, be it police or security. I only learned about his strategy years later.

It's kind of discouraging to hear all the mean comments about "my kids would never do that". Great. That doesn't address this problem. I'm proud of this parents for reaching out for help, and being vulnerable enough to be on TV with these problems. They seem like good people, who love their children, and just needed to be taught how to be better at it. Asking for help is incredibly hard, and they did just that.

My mom and dad would call the policeman that lived at the end of the street when I was late home and it was dark out. He would drive his police car behind me all the way home. Even when my husband was abusing me, I wouldn't call the police. I was too embarassed and it brought back too many bad memories to try to do that.
@feliciaw47108 ай бұрын
The problem I see here like I do on many of these episodes are parents seeming unsure. You don't have to be forceful to discipline. You just need to talk to and make sure your child understands expectations without you getting angry and losing control. We are their first teachers and need to try to stay calm. They aren't born knowing what to do and how to act. Treat everyone with love, respect, boundaries and fairness and it'll be loads easier.
