I have FitXR and Supernatural. I cancelled my overpriced gym membership so reallocated that money to buy the Oculus VR headset & apps. FitXR: I found that while FitXR has a greater variety of workouts boxing, hiit, dance, etc. that I had to be really precise when hitting the targets since there wasn't much allowable range (hiit mostly). Also, the trainer avatars are really creepy looking with their white eyes. The locations have increased since this video was made which allows for more variety to choose from. It definitely has a gym feel to it. The workouts are challenging so you do sweat. I just don't feel drawn to it like I do Supernatural. Supernatural is an experience that I don't think compares to other fitness apps. The getting started tutorials on the headset and here on KZbin are really good for anyone just getting started in VR and fitness. The landscapes are so incredible. Just wow! Never a fan of classical music, I tried a Sweat Symphony and have been hooked ever since! Same with all of the music mixes and artist collections that they feature including Lady Gaga, Katie Perry, Cold Play, The Weekend, Imagine Dragons and more. The coaches are fun, kind, encouraging and motivating -it's also nice to connect to their community on FB (if you still FB). I started at low intensity and in less than 3 months am doing high intensity - everyone learns at their own pace. I have days where I do low intensity because that's what feels and serves me the best. It's never a competition on Supernatural (unless you make it one) it's an experience. A great way to release pent up energy which lowers cortisol so gets rid of that wired and tired feeling. There is an easy transition into flow or 'the zone' with this that I haven't found with other apps. Since you're in another world with someone coaching and encouraging you, it's easy to shed the BS that weighs you down. You have the option to turn off coaching using focus mode which I like as an option, especially for workouts I repeat over and over. The warm up and cool down are still coached which is nice. I like their stretch and meditation sessions too. I paid for the annual membership with Supernatural and got a free mat which has a knob in the center. I like being able to feel center with my foot to realign since the workout has you turning 360 degrees. I also bought grips for the controllers ($15) which help keep them from sweat sliding away. After the workout I wipe down the headset and controllers with baby wipes so cleaning is easy. Results: No forcing myself to workout anymore. I can burn 300-500 calories per workout (according to my Garmin watch). I've lost 8 lbs. in 2 months. Emotional eating and cravings are gone. I sleep a lot better. Soreness is a thing so epsom salt baths and massages helped - especially at the beginning. I'm happier and have a much more positive outlook. I'm calmer and less reactive to things and people. I laugh more and feel more love and joy in my life. I'm buying one for my staff and we're creating a fitness area in the warehouse, everyone is contributing the fitness equipment they're not using so we have our own gym at work. So far we have a treadmill, urban rebounder, spin bike and waiting for Oculus to arrive. That's just my experience. Thanks for reading - I know this was long.

I've been using Supernatural pretty obsessively since it debuted last April. I never worked out before, but the combination of the immersion factor of VR plus the incredibly expansive music, incredible coaches, and beautiful landscapes has proven to be the magic formula that I needed to incorporate exercise into my daily life. I have not used FitXR, but based on what I have seen, I don't think it would come close to the experience that I get from SN. To your point about power scores and the frustration associated with it, I hear what you're saying. That said, it hasn't bothered me, and actually the further I get into my fitness journey, the less I care about my score or getting diamonds. I care about the sweat, and I care about the increased stamina I've gained. I don't want to see SN "gamified" more, and would probably enjoy it more if the scores were eliminated. What I love about SN, and what makes it so much more appealing to me than say, Beat Saber, is that SN removes failure. If you miss targets, you don't get some big red "X", and the music doesn't fade or stop. It's encouraging you to push through, and if you do, and if you do regularly, you'll get results far more meaningful than points. Just my 2 cents...

For me Supernatural gives the better workout. With FitXR you remain in one spot with your boxing moves, whereas the 360 degree workout with twists and turns give me a better feel. The music is also a great motivator for me. I’m an old fart (62) and there is a lot of classic rock, jazz and even classical music that really has me moving even more. FitXR does give me a decent workout, but Supernatural takes it (for me) to a new level, plus it’s a lot of fun.

After watching this, I gave both Supernatural and FitXR a try. In FitXR, I could not get past the weird mannequin instructors or the fact I could not adjust squat depth for an injury recovery - which you can in Supernatural. I have been using Les Mills Bodycombat and it gives me a better workout according to my fitbit. The timing of the strikes seems more realistic and there's more time to actively engage the whole core instead of the SN's rapid succession. But... I am adding Supernatural because the multi directional workouts and environments are SO fun. I really like their instructors too. I put SN 3rd favorite behind Les Mills Bodycombat and Audio Trip.

Nail on the head with your reviews. I have both. I had started with FitXR, was OBSESSED with it, and then got really bored of it within a month. I found myself doing the same workout playlists to optimize my time with what I knew had the most squats and were the most challenging. I even began wearing wrist weights and a thigh band for more of a challenge. So, I moved onto Supernatural. I still love it after several months. I like that it connects to my Apple Watch to count calories burned, the trainers AND views are so inspirational, and you can always find a playlist to fit your mood for the day. Who knew working out to classical music would be so cathartic? (I've held back tears while standing on top of a mountain in Switzerland working out to Greig's "In the Hall of the Mountain King"). I agree with you about the leaderboard. I really only use it to go motivate the people on mine with positive comments and stuff. I definitely am not trying to beat anyone with 15,000+ points. lol I do think that FitXR wins on price, especially now that they offer the annual subscription (I know your video is older) which offers a discounted rate over monthly, but the SN annual also offers a discount. It's basically 2 1/2 months free when you break it down monthly. I will disagree that SN stretches get ignored. I do an extended stretch after every workout because being sore is NOT my goal. lol I've seen plenty of people saying the same in the community group on FB. Overall, I do still love FitXR, but I just don't have a reason to do it anymore. I was a super couch potato so I was on L workouts in SN for months and FitXR helped me get up to M's. Now I can do longer H workouts.

Great review! I use both and am definitely split! I was definitely one of the people that used to go CRAZY (2-5 hours a day) trying to win the leaderboard. My shoulders got REALLY PISSED at me so I had to take a complete week off. At that point I went back and added FitXR back to the mix. Now I only do 1-4 workouts a day in SN and 30-60 minutes of FitXR. Surprisingly some of the high intensity FitXR workouts are harder than SN high’s! I love them both for different reasons and will be keeping the FitXR subscription. But I will always drift more toward Supernatural. Something about it makes working out feel less like working out than FitXR does. Side note: you showing that Iron Maiden map a few times during the video has me over here twitching! I bought FitXR RIGHT before they announced the subscription update. So, I thought ok, great, $10 isn’t so bad, and I have 3 months to try. I’m already so bored, the music sucks, all the new environments and HIIT are still “coming soon”, and I’m not using it daily. I was excited for SN daily, so I guess if it’s my jam, I need to figure out how to make it work. I also have an exercise bike that’s turned into a clothing rack out of boredom. Supernatural works better for me. Twenty dollars a month is still cheaper than a gym membership, I love the different landscapes and depending on the day, the trainers either feel like they're encouraging or they're so irritating that it seems to push me to do better just to spite them. The fact that they're all prerecorded and aren't actually there doesn't seem to affect the irritation at all. The leadership board doesn't interest me at all, so that's a non-issue. What it really comes down to is that the first time I played FitXR I was interested but I walked off after fifteen minutes or so. I tried out Supernatural the following week and got so into playing it that I went overboard for my physical condition and didn't realize I'd been going for close to forty minutes until I started to feel nauseous. I damn sure got a workout that day, though, so Super is the one for me.

I started using FitXR when it was still known as BoxVR and I still use it for free. I've tried the HIIT and dance workouts and I agree that the dance category is terrible. I don't think the music selection is THAT bad, I mainly just do the rock boxing workouts, even though some of the "rock" songs are a bit...questionable and hardly what I'd call rock. HIIT is mostly just punching notes that light up on a grid in front of you as fast as you can. Gets your heart pumping, but not very exciting. I'd like to give Supernatural a go, but I can't afford a subscription service and for now I can still play FitXR for free without being limited to a trial period. Maybe in the future when I can afford it, I'll try out Supernatural. I do agree that the environments in FitXR are a bit lacking, I only ever use the indoor gym one because I don't like the other ones (they've since released 2 more: an outdoor ice rink and an outdoor ice rink at night lol).

Good review Ari. BTW I liked the joint video you did with Elena awhile back. I use FitXR because when I bought it, it was a non subscription service. Two weeks later they tell me they are going subscription based with no warning or a chance to have some time to purchase DLC content. It was the way that they handled the change that irked me. I'm using my free 90 day subscription they gave existing owners of the game but I really think they should have at least a full year or at least six months to previous purchasers of the app. That said however if a subscription service is what they want to go to, they have the right to do so. They should have treated us prior customers a bit better, though. I like FitXR overall but I don't know if I will stay with it after my 90 day trial, though. I'm 68, and I find the beginner levels have just about enough intensity for me. Once in a while I'll try an intermediate level but they really do me in. I don't even attempt Advanced. (To be fair though, I can only do easy levels and some normal levels on Beat Saber and Synth Riders. Reaction times at this age aren't what they used to be. Audio Trip is even worse for me. I have to use No Fail even on the beginner level. Jeez!). I can't afford Supernatural on my own, but I may be able to get an annual subscription as a Father's Day present next month. May give it a try. Keep up the good reviews, Ari.

Music and intensity are the biggest factors for me. If you don't find supernatural intense then you're not doing it properly. Hitting the targets is just half the game, but doing it while constantly performing squats and lunges with good form is what brings the heat. On top of that, you can increase the intensity by lowering the height of your squats and lunges under settings. By the way, if you live in US or Canada, the Accessibility category in the video does not apply to you, and once you eliminate this category SN wins!!!!! 😂 (all in good spirit).

I'm sure I'll try both at some point but now after your video - I know I'll try SN first. Thanks again!

The multiplayer aspect of FitXR sounds cool.. but SuperNatural hands down gives me that great feeling like I just danced all night in the club and the coach's pump speech during the workouts keeps me going. SuperNatural hands down...

How power meter is measured. When you first start you are at full strength (90s and above). Depending on your workout selection it measures you doing the same motions thru out. If it notices you arent doing the same force, your power meter drops. #supernatural

An excellent one with which I wholheartedly agree... well maybe except for the conclusion that it's a tie but that's fine. A bit like Eric's comment bellow, I never worked out (at all) before and SN really managed to suck me in - just that fact alone makes SN a spectacular product, subjectively. Ironically, BoxVR (before it became FitXR) is what got me into VR fitness, at least piqued my curiosity. I haven't tried since they moved to their subscription based model but based on your video it seems like very little has changed. To me, FitXR wins in one area that you pointed out very well - Scoring. While I'm 100% in agreement that scores don't matter and that in fact, they are being used by most in a detrimental way within the SN community, I personnaly feel a lot of motivation from improving my own performance - getting an actual number that is reliable (ish) for a 'Me vs Me' is extremely effective in pushing myself harder. Right now, SN is awful at this because of the mysterious and seemingly random way they attribute their 'power' score. I'd love to see that change to a more 'raw data' approach like FitXR are doing. Leaderboards do work to some extent if you manage to find similar level players but that's not what it's being used for... I don't care at all about the 'award (Double Plat, Diamond whatever) as they are even more meaningless. I think SN has layed the foundation for a platform that could grow a lot - tons of opportunities but it seems very limited for the time being. Instead of having a bunch of purely streak driven achievements, that, to your point, promote over-exercising, it'd be good to have random fun unlocks for music styles played, lenght, coaches choice etc.. It's a minor thing but achievements like those that would encourage folks to experiements with different WO as opposed to being purely competitive could add a nice gamification touch without getting in the way of the core workout experience.

I appreciate you taking the time to write this comment. We all have our reasons for working out, i think folks who need more extrinsic motivation look to SN, while those who would rather feel like they’re gaming and working out would be drawn to FitXR due to the simplicity of the set up and ability to turn off the trainers. Thank you again for your perspective🙏

Spot on comments about Supernatural leader board. It renews every Monday and a week or so ago the gal in the number one spot exercised for 14 hours during that day. You have the ability to look at the workouts someone does and I reviewed her day. She started working out at 2:00 a.m. She worked out every hour until 4:00 p.m. the next day. That’s nothing but cultish and weird behavior that SN promotes.

Not everyone using these programs are previously into fitness. Some (I think many) like me are just starting and are hoping this will help. As such I WILL do the warmups- I WILL do the stretching. I will actually do the meditation. You're rating a system less because you assume people won't use it as intended? That means you are rating the USERS- not the program. I've started Supernatural and I intend to use it as intended. So far I am getting a lot out of it. But it would be nice to not be second-guessed before I even start. Sorry this sounds like I'm attacking you and let me be clear I really appreciated this video. It was informative and I got enough to know I definitely made the better decision. But try to give the program, if not the USER, the benefit of the doubt.

Great video! But I think right at the end your last point was off when it came to accessibility, that shouldn't be a factor because anyone who cares about comparing the two should already have access to both anyway so it's a nonfactor, therefore supernatural wins.

I’ve had my Quest 2 since July of 2022. I’ve tried both Supernatural and FitXR. I like them both. FitXR is better to me. They now have a variety of workouts and also a warm up and cool down feature. The coaches interact with you online as well. They have three workouts levels. Beginner, intermediate and advanced. They’ve added new classes, can save workouts, added new studios, added new music 80’s 90’s and yes the real artist 😅. They now have hits from Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa, Pink, Miley Cyrus and a few others. It’s definitely better than what they’ve had before. They workouts are definitely better. It’s not only boxing. I’d say go check it out and give it a try. New home design, new looks, challenges that free your movement and META scoreboards.

Supernatural is night and day better. The only reason to go with fit xr over supernatural is if it's about the money. The leaderboard is good in supernatural you act like someone working harder than you should be lower. That makes no sense. Also obviously if people are working out at higher levels they are going to get higher score. The motivation in supernatural is so good as well.

What would be the best fitness one for her as someone who needs motivation and beginner classes but wants to loose weight. I saw supernatural was higher rated on the store and was curious if that might be better for her? Thanks. This was a really good comparison and I learned alot about the differences in scoring. I've also watched Lena's videos and like them, so its cool you two have collaborated. I got hooked by Nintendo Fitness Boxing last year, and then graduated to Fight Camp. I still like both...but happened across a video of Supernatural on day about 2 months ago and could figure out how I had not seen this Oculus quest thing before. It took about two weeks to convince myself on the purchase and haven't looked back. I agree FitXR has made a bunch of rookie decisions and lost alot of goodwill, however, I like to product and feel like the price point is fair. There is something messed up with my stance right now though, so I'm not enjoying as much and find I look forward to Supernatural everyday. In the end I will probably keep both until something better comes along...as it is getting me to workout every day and increase my performance over time. Definitely worth even $30/month.

One huge factor that really needs to be discussed is that one can immediately jump into FitXR without starting a damned "14 day trial". I call bullshit on Supernatural not even giving you a free, no strings, no trials to cancel, taste of what the app has to offer. You mean to tell me that you can't let me try at least one workout without starting a $179.00 yearly fee trial? C'mon man. FitXR has 8 or 9 workouts that you can jump right into without agreeing to a damned trial that you have to remember to cancel. That alone is enough for me to say FitXR is is the "winner". Supernatural can take their 14-day trial and stick it up their poop chute.

Great video, thanks! Hey man, do you know if Fit XR does a good job in tracking the hits? I have done SO MANY of the Supernatural workouts and 3 songs into 5 I get a BOGUS hit scan and totally screws up my score and flow. I KNOW things happen but I am NOT missing these hits and have a goal to get through all the workouts with 100% and this DAMN GAME cannot seem to properly scan my hits. Anyway, I've started my Fit XR journey and hope it is better...HAS TO BE, the Supernatural Coaches are GREAT....BUT....after hearing their "background chatter" on the various songs after the 100th time, when the music is LOUD and I'm on HARD, very frustrating. Wish I could SHIT OFF the coach sound, you can only lower it, but still frustrating. Hearing a coach talk about sweaty twerking while trying to concentrate on a workout makes me SICK.
