This is one reason I hate the whole "you have to eat everything on your plate or you're in trouble". I understand trying to get your kids to not be picky, but if you're full then you're full.
@legzfalloffgirl51485 жыл бұрын
I completely agree. If the kid can't finish just give them slightly smaller portions
@mella85594 жыл бұрын
To be honest I’m a bit torn on this one. I was raised being taught to finish my plate, but it was to not waste food. My parents made a point to not put more on your plate than you could finish and to be grateful to be able to have 3 meals a day. ETA: nevertheless I can absolutely see the danger in this mindset as well

xtinkerbellax3 clearly you’ve only read half my comment. It is actually not necessarily damaging to a child when it teaches a child about not wasting food, being grateful to have food, to not be greedy and most of all about normal healthy portion sizes.

I've always felt really guilty about food and will literally lick my plate clean, I cannot leave a single grain of rice in the bowl and I also will eat more than necessary as to not have leftovers. Mrs. Edna Welthorpe Actually sugar does have a nutritional benefit. I heard this from my nutritionist. Sugar is good for quick bursts of energy - for example I went on a forty mile bike ride recently and at about mile 26 I ate two bananas and some trail mix and was able to finish it. The issue is that we as a people consume way too much sugar and don’t expend the energy to burn it off. Sugar is there to provide energy quickly when needed.

I used to have 2-3 bottle a day habit. Not as much as some, but still bad. Worst thing was it was mindless.. I hardly even noticed. It ended up being related to a medical issue - nasal polyps. Once it was discovered I had these and they were treated, I cut down to a single 500ml bottle a week, at most. A couple of months later, I noticed myself go back to the old habit pretty much within a couple of days. Got treated again a little more aggressively. That was January. Since then, I can easily go 2-3 weeks without soft drinks. And when I do have something, it's never more than one bottle a week. With the amount I was drinking, and for how long, the amazing thing was how easily I cut the drinks, and the total lack of withdrawal issues. At least now, I know if I start mindlessly drinking again, it's polyps and can be sorted quickly, lol.

@@misspopcoin2204 Once, my brother told me : "I'm sure you can"t stop drinking soda for one month !" I was a teenager then. I did it. And after that month, I wanted to celebrate that with a soda... I couldn't. That is +/- 15 years ago, and, since then, I was never able to drink soda anymore (bubbles hurt my mouth, and I find the taste awful). The most difficult thing is not stopping soda (I wasn't addicted to caffeine), but it was to find something else to drink (I choiced fruit juice). In fact, the most difficult thing I did was, a few years later, stop drinking fruit juice to drink water instead. That wasn't easy, because, for years, I drank water only at night, and I hated the water taste during day. But now, I'm used too and I don't want to drink something else than water in my diary life (fruit juice only at restaurant). :)

i’m very grateful that the person narrating the show made sure to clarify “type 2 diabetes”. type 1 and type 2 diabetes are very different. as a type one diabetic, i got diabetes from genetics, not weight. but when people found out, they started calling me fat and saying i got it from weight gain. it made me feel useless, and i almost fell into the lifestyle and mindset of an anorexic person. please, make sure people know the difference between the types, or else someone with type one may have to go through the same thing i did. i want to personally thank the narrator for clarifying which type it is, and i’m a little disappointed the doctor didn’t. but overall it was still a fantastic episode

The thing is, I wasn't a picky kid at all, there were and still are only 3 things I refuse to eat, and part of it now is because of the horrible memories.

I don't normally watch the anorexia sections but this held special interest for me. I've always struggled with weight, specifically being overweight and emotional eating. When I was pregnant I suffered with horrific HG. My dad found me choking on my vomit and had to perform emergency first aid. Even once the sickness subsided, I was absolutely terrified of food. I barely ate enough but I was lucky that my daughter was ok. Then I was breastfeeding and ate like a horse because I was starving all the time. I had to stop breastfeeding cold turkey for various reasons and I gained a stone in 3 months. She's now 15 months and I've done a fantastic job of maintaining my weight for a year (I've never sustained weight before) but now it's time to focus on a weight and size that's healthy for me because this isn't
