Marlayna Dreisinger what’s orthorexia... is it a legit disease????
@marley76595 жыл бұрын
Orthorexia is a sub class eating disorder. It is usually paired with anorexia not always. Obsession about eating the healthiest and cleanest foods possible. Potentially causing problems with nutrient deficiencies. Again, there is a line where clean eating can become an eating disorder. Only in the restrictiveness of the eating.
@deannarothschild78465 жыл бұрын
Jolly Zahur orthorexia is an eating disorder where the person has an unhealthy obsession with healthy food that’s hiding a person’s anorexia. They pretend to be able to *only* eat healthy foods when they’re really just anorexic
@palmspirit18335 жыл бұрын
Jolly Zahur in addition to the other comments, it’s common to see people who avoid otherwise harmless food classes. For example, it’s common to see people with orthorexia observe a strict gluten-free, dairy-free, fat-free, added sugar-free and observe strictly organic, vegan, and raw foods. Often all at once.
@palmspirit18335 жыл бұрын
N A I’m so sorry to hear that you’re dealing with this. I don’t personally struggle with this (I have other struggles concerning food) but I really encourage you to speak to someone about it. You can take baby steps by going to a regular therapist just to vent or hear yourself say these things out loud. And then you can go from there. If you’re underweight and you feel pressure or concern about many foods, it’s time to see someone.

If you manage to eat healthy 6 days a week and only have one cheat day, that’s super healthy and what dietician’s recommend. Having one hundred percent healthy usually leads to people quitting that lifestyle because they can’t have that doughnut they’ve been craving but waiting for Sunday to roll around to finally have it makes the whole diet worth it because you feel great while eating something not so great and having a cheat day motivates you to keep the other days healthy. It’s a problem when you have a cheat day then have another right after and then another.. it shows no control an needing help but you sound fine.

What do I miss in this series? They do not show how the supersizers and the skinnies really arrive at their root causes. From my experience it isn't just having a look at a few photos and - bingo -revelation. It took me forty years to get at my root causes. But that does not mean issues are resolved. And point two that is missing: not only anorexia and bulimia are eating disorders, eating for comfort, meaning chucking stuff named food down your gullet to fill a gap is an eating disorder as well. The point is to identify the gap and find something to do instead. While I am writing, one more missing: there is no support how to handle the psychological change that comes along when losing weight. That change was too much to handle for me (after losing about a stone), so I chose to stay overweight, at roughly 18 stone. I think that any of the guys and girls in the series is courageous, letting their pants down.

The show is just a summary of things that go much deeper, I think people understand that.

I think emotional eating would be considered disordered eating rather then a full on eating disorder

Why do they say it's too late for the morbidly obese people in that USA segment? The guy Kenny from Oregon isn't beyond help. He could lose the weight if on a program with monitoring and help from professional. He comes across as defeated and a Little sorry for himself. How is it too late for him. He could still turn it around with help. And then he could reduce some of those medications. There's other TV shows in the USA about morbidly obese people who are 600+lbs who get the gastric bypass surgery and they lose the weight and get their life back. They do have to get the skin removal surgery after they lose all the weight. It's not too late for Kenny and maybe even the ones who are bed bound.

I once added up all the calories I ate on a typical day....and it was less than 800 calories total for the whole day. Odd thing is I'm not thin and I hate vegetables.
