#1 iron - affects thyroid medicine absorption. Wait 4 hrs before taking iron supplement #2 calcium - affects thyroid medicine absorption. Wait 4 hrs before taking calcium supplement #3 biotin - vitamin to help grow hair, doesn’t impact thyroid function. Impacts thyroid test, appears like you’re taking too much. Avoid biotin for 2-3 days prior to blood test #4 iodine - wrong dose can harm thyroid. Too high iodine and too low selenium can cause thyroid inflammation #5 thyroid glandulars - harmful if contains thyroid hormones. Unverified amounts of thyroid hormone impact lab results. Look for reputable manufacturers

Cut just about all sugar and processed food out of diet and concentrated on eating clean. I was taking a high iodine dose for a few years. I think it was about 125 mg. in a liquid form. I didn't take it everyday but maybe 3-5x per week. In 2020 I had inflammation of my thyroid, so much that I felt like I was choking. I had an ultrasound and they found many nodules, one was quite large, 2cm across. I am much better today (2022) but my last ultrasound still showed all the nodules, which I was surprised because I no longer feel like I'm choking, though I can feel something in my throat when I swallow at times. When I am stressed or overemotional (very sad or angry),The choking feeling returns for a while. I am taking Armour Thyroid and my labwork is coming back good (I am hypothyroid). Going gluten free has helped tremendously. I no longer have the chronic neck pain I have had since I was a child! Meditation is a must. I fight doing it but after I stretch and spend time with God in meditation and prayer I feel so good, so happy, so calm, so hopeful about life. Thank you Dr., your videos have helped me so much! God Bless you.

@heidih30482 жыл бұрын
I started taking high doses of iodine regularly to improve my energy levels when I began working as a nurse and was not getting enough sleep. The stress and chronic insomnia were causing a feeling of fatigue and difficulty focusing. I had read that high doses of iodine are common in the diet in Japan, and that supplementing would increase alertness and as a bonus, might reduce breast cancer risk. After a couple of months of supplementing at least 2-3 times per week, my thyroid gland started to swell, and I developed a sore throat and other flu-like symptoms, in addition to hyperthyroid-like symptoms, such as excessive sweating, increased anxiety, increased insomnia, and increased heart rate (didn't check my BP at the time). I researched my symptoms and found that it appeared that I had thyroiditis later found thru lab testing to not be Hashimoto's thyroiditis, but merely an inflammation of the thyroid that was not non-autoimmune in origin (Hashimoto's is autoimmune), likely either brought on by the excessive iodine supplementation, or a rare viral infectionof the thyroid, or both. I went on a low iodine diet for a few weeks, as well as regular aspirin supplementation for anti-inflammation during the worst part of the thyroiditis (several days, in which I had thyriod pain and difficulty swallowing). After the acute thyroiditis resolved, my thyroid function was low-normal for a while, then after about 8 months, when i next had thyroid labs checked, i had subclinical hypothyroidism for the 1st time in my life. So right now I still have subclinical hypothyroidism (TSH between 6 and 7, but T4 still normal). There is a chance that the thyroid function will improve up to a year and a half after the acute thyroiditis, so I am waiting to see if it improves before going on levothyroxine. Anyway, that is my story-- perhaps it will help someone?

Hey dr. Childs, I have 2 questions for you on Iodine, since you said that high doses of Iodine can inhibit thyroid's function or even cause autoimmunity. 1) What is your stance on say Japanese consuming ridiculously high amounts of iodine but having probably the best thyroid function in the world, least autoimmune thyroid problems ? 2) What is your stance on theory that some practitioners practically implement, saying that it's not the iodine that causes the problems, it's the damage from halogens that are inside the body from tap water, chemicals and other toxins, mainly excess fluorine, bromine and chlorine.They displace iodine in our bodies and intoxicate us. And when you take iodine in higher amounts your body is thus detoxing, which initially puts your body to detox phase which may last quite for some time and if your detox pathways aren't working you suffer a lot. But if you take care and detox well, you actually restore optimal function of the body and the thyroid. Will be waiting for your answers. Cheers!

I follow Dr. David Brownstein's iodine protocol. I take between 25-50mg. My mom takes 50mg, as well. She did have Hypothyroidism. I have Hashimoto's that has been healing for the past 4 years. My Hashimoto's was caused by the Mirena IUD. My TSH went as high as 30 with supplementing with iodine. My TSH is currently around 11, as I still have elevated TPO; sitting at 60, but was at 400 in 2017. My mother's TSH only went up to 7 with iodine, and now she is off levothyroxine. Iodine has helped her diabetes, helped her NAFLD, and her eyebrows are growing back (she literally had no eyebrows). I stopping taking Levothyroxine in March 2021 as I was having side effects (excess daytime sweating, night sweats, acne). My vitiligo has been healing on its own, since I stopped Levo. Iodine has fixed my irregular cycles, raised my body temperature, corner of my eyebrows have grown back, no more sore breast, no more bloating, etc. Dr. David Brownstein, Dr. Jorge Flechas (retired), and Dr. Guy Abraham (deceased) are three of the most iodine literate doctors out there.

Thanks for all your videos! These are so helpful and informative. I have hypothyroidism. I had already been taking a few supplements for many years...mainly D3, krill oil, turmeric, and ashwaganda. But I decided to add a supplement that my chiropractor suggested, called Thyroid Complex by Medi Herb. It does have 300 mcg's of iodine, but no selenium. At my next doctor visit a week later, I was told flat out not to take it because of the iodine. She said too much iodine can cause...goiter...? So I stopped taking it and returned it to my chiropractor. But according to you, 300 mcg's of iodine would not be overdosing. I have also been supplementing my diet with 2 or 3 Brazil nuts per day, because I have read that 2 or 3 Brazil nuts per day will provide the daily amount of selenium that your body needs....is this true?

I have ALL of the supplements from MM’s boom & I learn it doesn’t matter what we take of our absorption is nil, starting to take ACV capsules with protein/fat meals to increase stomach acid as low stomach acid is a problem in hashimotos/hypothyroidism causing malabsorption/constipation etc

Honest question here-What’s the point of taking a thyroid glandular that no longer has thyroid hormones? I’ve tried Armour, NP Thyroid, Synthroid, Cytomel and even though my labs looked great I still felt horrible. I took it upon myself to take the equivalent strength of Thyro-Gold from New Zealand which is dedicated bovine thyroid glandular and it worked much better for me. I wonder how many people have had the same experience…

Research the dangers of taking calcium. There are no studies that prove it even helps your bones, there's a huge risk of people having either a heart A or stroke. Doctors push it still.

I also have hyperthyroidism, the doctor put me on 5 mg, then 10, then 20 mg of methamazole , I just started with 20 mg 15 days ago, I have a blood test coming mid June , I cut gluten, dairy, coffee, processed food, clean eating, like chicken , leafy greens, almond butter, small amounts of unsalted nuts, berries a lot. Thank you for the information, I didn’t know about the calciu and the iron, good to know, I am taking some supplements that they are made of whole food, also taking liposomal glutathione, zink, selenium and some herbs that they say it helps to suppress the thyroid hormones like buggleweed, lemon balm and motherworth. The symptoms are less for sure, the fatigue, anxiety, hot flashes, muscle ache, foggy mind,, much better. Let’s see what the blood work say. Please anyone have good information or advice about over active thyroid, let us know . Thank you everyone for sharing

Black box warning not to give it to someone who is allergic to iodine. Spent 5 extra days in the hospital getting over the allergic reaction.

I agree with excessive iodine!!!! JS health hair and energy has an extremely high dose of iodine (275mcg). The recommended dose for pregnant women is 250mcg max! I was taking this for 3 years cos it was advertised for hair growth. It was only until now that I realised this was it was that that was causing very high thyroid antibodies! I’ve immediately stopped that and started increasing my selenium intake (100mcg)

I was told 20+ years ago that i had low thyroid. My doctor never took a blood test or anything. I just took him at his word. He put me on levothyroirine. Years later, I saw lawsuits on these meds and read an article on how, with prolonged use, it can bring on osteoporosis and lupus. Here, it is 20 years later, and I was diagnosed with both. Sometimes, my neck will swell, and I get small nodes and tell him I will go home and take seakelp, and the swelling goes down every time. He told me not to touch seakelp at all. What do you think? I now have Hashimoto's . I use very little seakelp.

I started out 6.5 mg till I got up to 50mg. Did this for approx. six months. Eventually my heart started racing away my thyroid swelled I lost 22 pounds I was anxious. I went to the Dr and was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, graves disease and a goiter. Wish I never would of taken the iodine.
