lol I know what you mean Splitsie speaking of which remember talking about the whole skynet thing as well as Clang getting revenge, well.... after watching your video on the auto-miner script by Rdav I made a new drone with that to test it out and hopefully replace the one drone that WAS MIA and after a successful test I was going to send out the new drone to go get some silicon considering my silicon drone has been missing for a few days(figured it was due to exiting the game while one of its timer blocks was running) and I was getting low and I was planing on using space master to locate it and either remove it or upgrade it, when guess who shows up with 3 of its drills and 2 of its many timer blocks missing, then suddenly "error: this world is corrupt and can not load" considering the world was already loaded that was an odd message and it appears that even my backups are the same way so looks like i am starting over, so new world new challenges this time im going to limit myself to 1 mod the no automatic jetpack activation mod which means i am going to have to re think some of the automation stuff i did as some of my automation designs rely on a few mods, and this time im planing on relying more on scripts and less on timers that have to be reset all the time and one of the things I checked with the auto-miner script was the ability to continue after a reload worked great way better then the ugly timer block mess with tons of GPS markers that always needed a restart.

Proposal: The Leroy Jenkins Class heavy kamikaze attack drone. An elongated drone with a quad barrel Gatling in the nose and a warhead directly behind it. The drone fires a stream of rounds directly at its impact point allowing deeper penetration into the enemy base. Not cheap, but might be fun to do at least once.

Yay! You're using my inventory manager! Cool! A few things I noticed: 7:33 The script seems to detect a 'Shelf' as an usable inventory.. I think this is a decorative item, that has no conveyor access, so the script will complain about not being able to do stuff with it. Also the owner is different.. For cases like this, consider adding Locked to the name, e.g.: "Locked Shelf" ;) 14:10 "Fill bottles BEFORE storing them in the bottles container". Where did you store them initially? Right! In the bottles container, so they won't be moved anymore. Unfortunately I can't read the bottles' fill level, so I had to create a workaround for that. Every bottle that is found in the system and is NOT in a bottle container, will be pushed to the first found O2/H2 gen and in the next cycle to the bottles container. Btw: 16:32 Nice trick with the cameras.. I ran into this problem before! No I won't anymore - thanks! ;) And: Igor should stay as he is - he's the ugly ducklings brother.. Some kind of tough guy with a very pronounced nose and a slavic name.. No pretty coat needed :P

I'm so glad you saw I started using it, I really love how easy it is to setup :) Thanks for the tip about the shelf, I wasn't sure how to deal with it since I want to keep it half constructed. That's unfortunate there's no way to detect the fill level of the bottles, what's worse is that I've already recorded and uploaded the next episode and have no time to fix the bit where I talk about it, but I will make sure I mention what you said right at the beginning of the next episode, and I should have known if you hadn't worked it out that it probably wasn't possible :P Perfect description of Igor, I love it :)

I forgot to mention another thing: my script has internal sorting = sort items inside one cargo container by name, type, amount and so on... The default setting is by name ascending. With your mixed containers it could be cool to sort the items by type and name so that tools, bottles and so on are next to each other in the container.. The sorting key for this is "Ta" (type, ascending). Look for "Internal item sorting" in the config to change this.

Splitsie, the turrets on top of the bunker is 2 blocks tall. Have you thought about putting one block up in front of it to protect the bottom half of it? I use a heavy block in my lookout and the turrets have no problem shooting over the top of them. As long as the enemy does not come in low they should provide some more protection for your turrets.

First, igor is awesome, just put a protective rib on his back. Second, you should have a min of 3 thrusters on the missile; up, down and forward - this will allow for best control as you only need to turn 90 degrees to correct flight path. And a light if used at night, a rail gun is also something you could add. Cheap is the best for a kamikaze mission. The drone would be great but more expensive.

It makes me smile every time I read the love for my goofy designs :) That's a good thought on the missile, just one extra thruster would make control a large amount easier :)

1)If you want turrets to spend less time and ammo targeting debris, simply occlude their firing arc. I like to use hangar doors for this, since they can be lowered in a pinch. 2)Consider adding an on/off switch to the reversing thruster to gain "cruise mode." 3)Rotors are an excellent way of mounting subgrid PMWs with protection.
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
I hadn't thought about blocking their arc stopping them targeting something, that's a neat idea. Not much I can do that won't look horrible for the base mounted ones but I may be able to come up with something for the bunker which seems to be most affected
@HoundRogerson6 жыл бұрын
In modifying Igor for a second battery, I would move the gyroscope to the top of the rear battery, and add the second battery in front of the conveyor junctions. That would effectively balance his load front to back, although it would increase his tipping risk as you aren't widening his wheelbase.
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
I think that's the easiest place to put the battery, but you're right it does make Igor even more top heavy which could get interesting the next time I roll him :P
@HoundRogerson6 жыл бұрын
Ya know, I was thinking, if you want to try something interesting (and maybe humorously destructive), you could remount Igor's wheel suspension on laterally mounted pistons. That could give you the option to dynamically widen the wheelbase for turning, I just don't know how the pistons would react to that kind of stress. I also have an idea for stabilizing the elevator, whenever you get around to rebuilding it to more match your elevator design in the tutorial video you made. It should mitigate a lot of the shaky behavior, even with sharing the tensor between the pistons.

2:08 - You don't need to have a horizontal profile. My Blade attack drone uses a vertical arrangement where the connector is vertically oriented but facing such that the side is where the docking end of the connector is. I always try to minimize width as my inspiration for attack drones is the AH-1G Cobra / AH-1Z Viper attack helicopter. Those are narrow as heck, both for speed/efficiency reasons, but also to present a minimal profile to enemies.

This episode was a lot of fun to watch! it looks like your bunker is still acting up and since we know the range isn't the problem, I'm thinking it could be targeting debris from all the wreckage as it's probably closer than the actual enemy drones. I think that should be higher of a priority and you have a few vehicles at your disposal that could do the job. Just make a grinder pit somewhere accessible maybe where the Tick used to dock before you had a hangar. For Igor, His biggest problem is the high CoM (Center of Mass). I think you should replace the two side conveyor junctions with elbows as I'm quite sure they're lighter. I also think you should re position the batteries just behind the junctions so they're slightly lower down. The CoM will be further back than centered but at least it will be lower to the ground. Now the missile; I've played around with weapon designs for a while in SE and there's one that might work well for you. Its a sort of cluster bomb where instead of using warheads, you make some kind of device that drops explosive components. I'm not sure if they changed it but when I tested it, they explode on impact when traveling at high velocity. Though their damage isn't very powerful, when you have a large quantity, they're able to blow out windows and take out less armored parts like antennas. This is especially useful on enemy players space stations as it can blow out their oxygen and Comms to control drones. There's also Ore bombs which uses a similar principle but they do not explode on impact. I think this weapon system has become obsolete with one of the more recent updates though. I'd say test them out in creative mode before trying something that could fail and use resources. I wish you luck and as always, I'm excited for the next episode!
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
I suspect you're right about the bunker, it makes getting a grinding pit up a little more important. As you say ore bombs are now non-functional, not that I'd use them here since the AI has no defense against them, but they were fun to throw around :P I often test things in creative, but thought it would be an interesting exercise to do all the testing for the missiles in the series, the insights that people share end up teaching me a lot more than I could learn myself, and hopefully some of the newer players get something out of it too :) As for Igor, I feel like his high COM is part of his charm and I might get lynched by some people if I fixed him :P

My advice, build a under-slung detachable shield for the next drone and drop that before going on the dive bomb. You can approach lower, take more hits and drop it to distracts the turrets when it's time to pounce.

I haven't finished watching the video yet so maybe you already thought about it but, I was wondering if the bunker turrets were maybe aiming at debris closer than 600 or 700 meters, while ignoring the incoming drones until they were close enough to shot at the bunker ? I must confess I have no idea what the turrets would be doing in a scenario like this but considering the amount of debris you have collected on the nearby hills, and knowing how much turrets like to keep shooting and waste ammo at useless pieces of dead drones on the ground, that could be the reason ? For example at around 31:38, the left one is still focusing on something in the direction of the base.

good and exciting episode. I like the idea you mentioned this time and last about a grinding pit. I would suggest you add some more turrets around your base. And maybe do a few lines of defense leading up to it, with sandbags or something more permanent, like the bunker. Would it be possible to add some sound blocks to your base that causes flashing lights and a siren to sound if a drone gets to close? Also would suggest you maybe build a (well defended) drone bay outside your main hangar, maybe next to the grinding pit that would produce the drones for you. One thing I really want to see is a security room. A place where you have monitors placed that provide feed from outside your base in the directions of the enemy bases. Set them up with some turrets you can remote control from the base, along with maybe some LCDs that provide information about the state of your outposts so you know if they are operational or not. Not sure if this is doable, without connecting it all to the same grid, but if it can be done, I am sure you are the one to do it :)
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
I may do a fake control/security room where there are LCDs that show a screenshot of the outside on various screens as the mod that used to let you do it live killed performance (which is why it's not part of the vanilla game). I've been trying to think of a way to give some indication of the defense failing to work properly so I can have an alarm but haven't come up with something reliable yet, if I do you can bet I'll be hooking it up straight away :)

Well i think you need at least one thruster pointing down if you want to do some diving bombing with rudolf. As for the bunker, maybe, maybe the problem is the related to the reloading time for each turret. If they reload at the same time, it mean that neither of them is able to shoot the incoming drone. And so perhaps this drone is able to kill them before the end of the relaoding. One possible solution is two more turret with shorter range. And so they will cover the turret one and two durring the reloading time. Another option is to set one or two decoy coupled with welder set on (and spare part), both covered by a thick layer of heavy armor block.
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
I'm planning on the rebuild of the bunker including at least one decoy that could later be upgraded to include a welder as that should at least make the turrets last that little bit longer. I also agree about the downward thruster, I wanted to try one shot in day time so that when I do add that thruster I can hopefully notice the difference more and see whether it's really worth adding :)
@DarthRRuff6 жыл бұрын
Splitsie. Maybe, bunker don't work because turrets aim for wreckage? Turrets don't shoot through voxels, but they might calculating some wreckage with reactor\battery as target and giving priority to them. If this is true, then sandbags will also fail after some time.
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
I think you're right, the upside of the sandbags is there are more of them so less chance of every one targeting the same piece of wreckage, plus they've already got decoys on them which can't hurt (something I'm going to add when I rebuild the bunker) :)

Are you sure the Bunker has power? Its got 2 turrets and a beacon to power on what was it, just a few batteries? You've never done anything to recharge it since it was built and every time you've gone to look we on our end have not seen you check them. As they say, "Assume nothing!" :D

I might give it a try just to test it, from what I've read I suspect it will have too much performance impact due to my rather sizable number of turrets, but since they don't appear to be working very well it might be with trying

Isy's Inventory Manager is fantastic. I'm using it on my Asteroid Base, and will also add it to the planet base when I eventually get back there. I had the same problem as you though, in that I could not get the bottles to refill. I spent a long time trying to figure out why they would not refill, but could never get that feature to work. As for the Chicken Hawk, and Rudolf, Hmmmm!!!! not sure about them. Seems to me like an awful waste of resources to do a job that could easily be done by a well armed and armored ground vehicle, or ship, and you still have no parachutes on the Chicken Hawk.
@macgabhann11086 жыл бұрын
by default with out a script the O2 generator should auto pull bottles that are not full to it, and the script from what I can tell is supposed to allow for that , yet I have heard from a few people that it seems to be preventing that default behavior, however I am not sure about that as I have only used that script once considering I always forget about it.
@collinbarker6 жыл бұрын
It will pull if the bottles are not in the container labeled bottles. Put them anywhere else and it will move them. The variable that you change even suggests this, not very clearly though. Pull bottles to O2 generator BEFORE moving to cargo container.
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
That's unfortunate, I hope I can find out a way around that as it would be nice to just be able to type cc like I do each time and deal with components and the bottles in the same place, saving a couple of steps

I agree with most of the other commenters, igor should be left ugly. But some functional upgrades do seem to be in order, like the 2nd battery, and the front mounted welders so the igor can place blocks as well. As for the chicken hawk it could use some armor to reinforce it's structure, so that it doesn't fall apart if the connector gets shot out. The solar tower needs decoys to protect the panels and a turret or 3 would be to the wise. Mainly because its such a vital system of your base. No tower = no power And repeated repairs is starting to get really expensive. Rebuilding the turrets on the bunker may fix your issues with them not working. With Rudolf I would say a daylight test is in order before making any changes to the design that way you can also see the damage caused
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
Definitely leaving him ugly, I just felt like making him look finished, and ugly ;) For rudolf I think I need both daylight testing and a complete recording using reggie so I get some good angles on the strike :)

Might want to try putting a gps marker right at the base of the enemy base antenna build a new missile but have thrusters in all 6 directions and a remote block with collision avoidance off then send it to the gps marker

That could be an interesting experiment... I suspect it wouldn't end well as won't the autopilot start freaking out the moment one directional thruster stops working?

You really do need to add the turret AI control mod. It will allow you to set the turrets to not shoot grids with less than a certain number of blocks (say 15 or 20). This keeps them from shooting parts that fall off and keeps them shooting the part still flying and dangerous and it also keeps them from shooting the wreckage once the ship has crashed. This will save you lots of ammo.
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
I avoided adding it as I felt it would give me ask unfair advantage vs an ai that needs all the help it can get. But with the bunker playing up I might look at it again. Performance appears to be an issue with it from the comments on the workshop though, and I do have a fairly large number of turrets...

maybe rebuild the bunker such that it has auto repair using welders, and connect it to the main base for cargo, if you sink more of the bunker underground might be more durable?
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
I am certainly thinking of a complete rebuild of the bunker, and putting it a little into the ground is a nice idea :) My main reason for not connecting it to the base is performance related. I've got air tightness on and very spread out grids cause fairly harsh performance drops so I try to avoid them where I can :)

A few people have suggested I set up an autopilot to return the chicken hawk to the base, that would come in handy if the front camera were shot off as I could just turn autopilot on and let it fly back for me, plus there's a script on the workshop by Sprug that I want to try which may make it even more effective :)

@larrytyler15786 жыл бұрын
The reason the bottles are not being pulled and filled is there is too much ice in the O2 generator. You have it at max capacity, the generator seems to stop pulling when there is over 15k ice.
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
Isy's script seems to deal with that when it wants to move the bottles through the generator (which is very clever). From what Isy sent me as to why what I was trying didn't work (sadly I got the message too late to change the video) it's because there's no way that he can get the programmable block to detect the fill level of the bottles, so the script pulls all bottles through the generator on their way to the 'bottles' storage, but if they're already in that storage it'll ignore them. So it would appear I can't have my dream of being able to have the bottles filled if I put them in the spot where they'll end up being kept :(

@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
I might pop a decoy or two onto the second version, but with how small it is I suspect the bullet spread will make them mostly ineffective :(
@Andrew.A.6 жыл бұрын
Splitsie I'm not sure how the OP pictures the design. My suggestion pertaining to decoys on the missile would be spread out and behind the main body in a Capital 'Y' pattern. This should direct fire directly behind the craft. In addition, a spiral on approach might make the decoys more difficult to target. The farther from the center of rotation, the faster the decoys will move out of path. If it works as expected, you might extend the life of your decoys this way.
@STSWB5SG1FAN5 жыл бұрын
Just wondering, if your target is at a distance couldn't you use missiles on it and switch to guns when you got in closer❓
@Splitsie5 жыл бұрын
If you're talking player made missiles like the rudolf, sure you could, though you'd probably want to use one of the automatically guided missile scripts so that you can remain in control of your vehicle that has the guns. Sadly I don't think any of those scripts would handle exiting the launch site that I built :P

This was a bug for a while. Not sure if its still around now. If your turrets seem edlike they weren't firing at 800 meters. You had to manually reset the range from 800 to 600 then back again. If that didn't work you had to grind down and remake the turret. I only ran into it once but what i was told is it was common with lots of different unconnected grids close together with turrets on.

Helloo Splitsie! ^^ Maybe you should build a Decoy-HeavyArmor-Welder combo near the Bunker (but not too close), connected with the base, so the welders can repair the damaged armor. If you combinate this with a projector, the welder could rebuild armors, if its totaly destroyed. If you set the height and the position of this decoy, it should defend the Bunker. (You need sooome iron to use this..)
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
I'm thinking a complete rebuild of the bunker could be a good idea, and this time I intend to include a decoy as part of the plans :) I don't think I'll set it up to be welder backed at first, but I'll try to leave space for that to be added later

+1 for putting lipstick on Igor. When re-building the bunker, could you use some laser antennas to connect it to the base so you could remote in ans see what it's doing when you hear random gunfire? Maybe even control it if it decides to rebel again? Also, I'm all for moving your sarlacc pit style wreckage disposal system up the priority list. Isn't all that random wreckage hurting your performance?

I definitely think you should do a bit of terminal effectiveness testing with the missiles before you send them at the enemy; ever since the big physics update I've noticed crash damage has been wildly nerfed to the point that you can hardly even deliberately crash a ship anymore, much less achieve complete destruction of a missile on impact. In my missile testing most designs with any armor on them at all practically bounced off the target even at maximum speed.
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
It seemed like the warhead exploded pretty well, plus I'd prefer to make craters around the enemy's base than my own if explosion fails :P

Ok I take some of that back, I've been really busy and haven't really been able to play SE for a month or two. It appears Keen went back to the table and tweaked their physics a bit so things can fall apart again, which is certainly a welcome discovery. For a while there though I was really stressed out when I couldn't get any sort of built missile weapon to work properly.

I have a similar issue with turrets in my base. At some point a pirate base spontaneously spawned within 5km of my base and the streak of drones began - it was fine for a while as between my two base turrets and a parked battle tank I was sufficiently armed. After 10 or 20 drones however, one turret got buggy. It would shoot at less than 100m range, sometimes wouldn't shoot at all, and the other turrets behave weird too. It's frustrating because I literally can't do anything other than repairing the damage done.... If this continues I will have to either turn off the drones or get rid of the pirate base in creative as I don't have any means of taking the fight to them, and the drone attacks and repairs prevent me from building anything substantial.
@Splitsie5 жыл бұрын
If it's one of my bases from the assertive installations mod I'm going to be updating those soon so even if it's that close you'll get some down time to get some additional defenses built :) I completely rewrote the antenna range modifier with the help of Octavio so that it'll send 3-4 drones at you, then give you somewhere between 25-45 minutes of peace before doing it again. Should be a much more interesting way to fight them as the original script was really only suited to the scenario I setup for this series, not so much for procedurally spawned bases
@btCharlie_5 жыл бұрын
@@Splitsie - That sounds really great, combating more than two enemies at once is rare in SE, and deadly, too. It probably is a base from your mod, otherwise I dunno where it came from :D I usually stick to vanilla, but this time I installed a bunch of mods when I started the world, so I kinda lost track of the stuff I included... But either way, the problem isn't in the mod because everything was going fine for the first dozen drones or so, it's the sudden weird turret behavior that sabotages me. If the turrets were behaving properly, all would be fun and games. I'm thinking maybe the debris around the formed drone graveyard may be messing with the turret targeting, so I'll try to do some cleanup and see if it improves. Other than that, I haven't found any solution and it's frustrating. Edit: Just got to the next episode and listened to you suggest the very same thing :D I swear we think alike :D
