Hi everyone. Today, I'm showing you how to make Tonkatsu, a Japanese pork cutlet. Tonkatsu is a comfort food for many Japanese people. And I often make it for my family too. So I hope my video will help you make juicy and crispy Tonkatsu at home. Have fun cooking!😊
#tonkatsu #authenticjapanesefood #porkcutlet
Deep-frying guide
The total deep-frying time is 5 minutes.
For the first three minutes, please deep-fry at 160 to 170°C.
And for the next two minutes, deep-fry at 175 to 180°C.
And let the Tonkatsu rest for 4 mins.
Ingredients for Tonkatsu
2 pork loin chops(pre-sliced ones)3/4 inch or 2cm thick
Salt and Black pepper for seasoning
100g Panko bread crumbs
100g All-purpose flour
1 Large egg
1 tsp cooking oil to mix with beaten egg
Oil for deep frying tonkatsu( I used Canola oil for this video)
Ingredients for Tonkatsu Sauce
2 tbsp Ketchup
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp Sugar
1 tbsp water
1 lemon wedge

This is a very clear and detailed instruction of how to make Tonkatsu. I appreciate that you included the cabbage slicing and what to do with leftover components! Thanks Mr. Kunihiro, I really hope you publish a cookbook some day.

I am a Japanese/American with a dash of Filipino. The Japanese side of me loves to prepare this dish for all my friends. I use pork steak for more flavor and all enjoy the crispy fat. I'm proud of my Japanese heritage.

Back in the late 70s my mother would make chicken tonkatsu. The tonkatsu sauce she would make it herself... Ketchup and soy sauce. Saved her a long drive to little Tokyo in LA.

That's the same tonkatsu sauce I'm using! It's so delicious. I put it on everything lol. I just dipped fried potatoes in it earlier. Edit: I didn't know about adding oil to the egg. I didn't know about using chopsticks as a thermometer. I also didn't know about putting the tonkatsu on it's side. I learned so much! You cook a beautiful piece of meat

You have left no question unanswered! Possibly the best “how to” video I have seen. You could sell a “how to” instructional video to others; there are so many bad ones on KZbin. Am looking forward to making Tonkatsu according to Kunihiro!! Thank you

Great tips! I’ve never heard of adding oil to the egg. Also cutting along the sides & draining it upright. Cooking temp & technique also great tips.
