@@2001himax Good morning Norman, when doing an oil change should I use oil from your local Motorcycle shop or can I buy the oils identified for mortorcycle (like castrol 10W40 motorcycle oil) at your local Walmart. @@Paul-nj1sw Hi Paul, I see a lot of people use Wal-Mart Mobil 1 oil in their bikes. I use it in my Suzuki. Now for my 1970 Harley FLH I asked a man at Auto Zone if he could get me oil for the bike and he said he could get an oil for my bike and he researched it then told me that Harley oil has additives that only Harley has so I only buy Harley oil for the Harley. Check the difference in price for Wal-Mart oil and the dealer price. I don't think your dealer was telling you wrong. There could be different additives in it. If the difference in price isn't too outrageous go with the dealer oil. Hope this helps you. Norman

Back when I was redoing my 1970 FLH Electric Glide I respoked the wheels. Four of them. Two on the bike, one on the sidecar and the spare tire. Talk about a pain. I first had the Harly bike shop do one. When I got it back and it was not running true enough for me so I redid it. Ask them and they said it could be out .030. I got it around .006 to .008. I just took more time to do it. Ride safe,, Norman.

What really helps is having your specific bikes shop service manual. Thank you for watching. Leg is back to normal but Lois and I came out of Texas Roadhouse and I fell , caught my toe on the curb that was not painted yellow, went down hard on my left side. Hurt my hand and jammed my left shoulder. No broken bones but a lot of pain. Will take time to heal. Can't use my clutch hand. Always something. Norman.

I first checked mine at the same point, after I saw what could happen on the VR forum; as you said, I saw no grease, but the splines were pristine. I now do this with every rear tire change, but I use molybendum PASTE, and the splines still look like new. I use high-temp aircraft grade grease on the drive sprocket and axle.

I have been looking all over Google and KZbin for 17:00, I took out the shaft on my 1981 Honda CB900C and the gears are very difficult to spin. But at 17:00 in your video you show how easy it is to spin them. So I need to fix or replace mine.
@2001himax
@2001himax 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Alec, Being a shaft drive your bike must have oil in the back end that you change like mine? I would try this first. Drain the oil, Have the drain plug out and the filler plug out. Then take a can of break clean and spray through the holes into the final drive while you turn the part that I show at 17;00 . See if that frees it up any. If it doesn't then I would put the drain plug back in and fill it with kerosene then turn it by hand and try to free it up. Next use break clean again to get all the kerosene out. Let it set and dry out. If it is still hard to turn put a stick of wood on the rear drive and put the other end on your ear and turn it slowly to hear if it sounds like it is rubbing. Last thing is I would tear the final drive apart and see what is going on with it. If you need a new final drive try looking on e-bay under used parts or salvaged parts. I found parts that are from wrecked bike that are a lot cheaper than new. Hope this helps. Norman.

Just one tip. Do not run your fingers along the splines on the end of the shaft. In a severly worn shaft, the splines can be sharp as razors that'll slash your finger tips. Obviously, then parts will need swapping out, but you'll also have diced digits!

@@a.b1266 I first saw this problem on "Two wheel obsession" when Brian Glenn was making a bobber from a Suzuki Boulevard. His had a small dab, so I checked mine and found less on my bike. Thank you, you saved my bacon. I have stripped the bike down to the swing arm to tackle massive corrosion the previous owner just painted over. I have put all the bolts and parts in ziplock bags and tagged them but I saw that spacer sitting on the garage floor. I could not remember taking it out of the wheel. I put it aside in a separate bag. Until I watched your video I had no idea what it was. I saw you talking about the spacer and I was relieved; you saved me from making a big mistake. Hi Richard, Great bike but as you can see by some of my videos some of the fuel injection Boulevards have trouble with the idling. Mine has this trouble. If I were looking to buy a used bike I would buy an older one with carbs. Carbs can be cleaned an if they needed to be replaced they don't cost a small fortune. My video on buying the Honda ST 1100 shows I bought it due to it having carbs. I got it for $1800 and yes I did a lot of work to get it back in shape. An older Boulevard would need to be gone over but once done would be a great choice. Just my thoughts. Look up on You-Tube about Suzuki Boulevard idle issue and you will see what I mean. Norman.

Hi Hany, On the shaft and the end I put grease with my finger I use wheel bearing grease. In the final drive , at the rear wheel, I use Pennzoil SAE 80W-90 GL -5 gear oil or Valvoline SAE 80W-90 gear oil. It comes in a quart bottle and will do around three changes of oil. Auto parts stores have it and I think Wal-Mart has it too. Hope this helps. Norman.

@@2001himax I did see that Norman but I was speaking about the rear end of the propeller shaft where it plugs into the coupling for input to the rear drive. I would think those matching splines or gears need grease periodically as well.
