My family owns 5 Suzukis. My wife has a Baleno, my daughter drives a Celerio,, I got a Vitara, a GSX-R1000 and an outboard motor. We never, ever had any issues or hiccups with them. I've been a Suzuki lover since the mid 70s. Their reliability is is phenomenal!!!

I first had a GSXR600, then a GSX1300R, and I still have a GSX1400. My experience with their great sports bikes led to buying a Swift Sport, and I later added a Celerio. The cars are light and this shines through in driving feel and agility. They may not have the interior of a premium brand but you do get a very well engineered car - I think Suzuki invest their development into the mechanicals and electronics more than superficial things like the interior.

I consider Suzuki to be an honest, simple car brand. They do not produce flashy or sporty cars, but what they do produce are cars that are very reliable and run for years.

Hi, am a physically challenged guy from India. I own a 2 year old Suzuki Celerio Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) manufactured by Maruti Suzuki. It has run approximately 29000 kms. Been on 600 kms trips twice on vacation from Bangalore in State of Karnataka to Kannur in State of Kerala In the last week was my second trip. The figures are as below Fuel (Petrol) consumed between the ODO readings = 24.5 Liters Distance travelled between readings was 475 km of which approximately 249 km was Flat 3 lane Highways while around 226 km was Hilly winding roads with steep ascents and descents inside the Western Ghats of South India. Fuel Efficiency achieved is 19.36 km per Liter of Petrol. The car is spacious for 4 members with good luggage space, has fair ground clearance, good road grip and compact overall.

Great review, Thomas! I have never considered this car before. 2500 revs at 100 km/h is a very good result for such a small car. I appreciate your critical comments about smaller cars getting bullied by bigger cars. I want to add some information about the topic of interior quality and sustainability. The W 204 C class prefacelift version had been criticized a lot for its "bad interior quality" with a lot of "cheap" hard plastics. Years later these critics have been proven wrong. The German car magazine "Auto Bild" tested a C 180 over 100000 km, 200000km, 300000 km, 400000 km. The testers stated, the interior of the car looked almost like new after running ten times round the earth. They haven't finished the test yet. They are heading towards 500000 km now. The quality you can just touch and feel often times doesn't last very long. The Celerio seems to be a really solid car with a durable engine. The first Polo GT had 60 (!) hp. This was the top version. Today we wrinkle our nose about 68 hp in a small car. The Golf I was only 10 cm longer than the Celerio. Back then the Golf was called a spacious car for families. Why do we as humans always want more and more and still are not satisfied with what we have. Imagine how much energy we could save, if we were content with much smaller sizes of cars and engines! Combined with our modern technology we could easily drive cars with a consumption of 3 to 4 liters per 100 km in everyday traffic conditions. Instead our average consumption is probably double the size, maybe even more. Fun at the expense of our environment will not last very long. I don't call it fun, I call it iniquity!

True. Car makers try to conceal cheap mechanicals by giving a lot of soft plastics inside to give a false feeling of quality.

I do like the way you don't compare small cheap cars with big posh salloons, but judge them on their own terms, and at their own price point, Thomas. Great review of a very basic but likeable machine. You're absolutely right about larger car drivers behaving badly towards small cars.

Hi Autogefuhl! Great review, thank you so much for test driving the Celerio. Greetings from the UK. I have had my Celerio for a year now, got a good discount from the local dealer - at £6k for a brand new car you cannot go wrong with such purchase! The car is free from road tax at 99g of CO2/km, 1 liter engine hardly burns fuel, I could literally go for miles and lately I have reached 62.2 mpg (4.5 l/100km). The Celerio is comfortable to drive, well stable at speed, very smooth and responsive on the motorway and I do enjoy the ride. My entry level version does without air conditioning, no remote locking, no Bluetooth or alloy wheels, but being on the budget I cannot really ask for more. Spacious for four adults, there is plenty of headroom, surprisingly sprightly, easy to drive and park, good visibility all around, decent boot space, gear indicator, outside temperature gauge, DAB radio, ABS, EBD and BA, 6 airbags, two isofix points, electric front windows, height adjustable driver seat, USB and 60/40 split folding rear seats. On top, Suzuki scores high on customer satisfaction and reliability . I absolutely love the gear box, so precise and easy to shift! I know the interior is plasticky and the car feels so light, but at this price point, you will not find a brand new car so well equipped or so practical. To be perfectly honest with you, even a stepped up Dacia Sandero will cost more on finance, it would not be so cheap to run. A basic i10, Citigo, Up or a Mii's starting price is much higher to start with. My observation is, what we actually pay for is the badge. If a car can be safe and do the job of getting me from A to B, why would I pay more? Looking forward to future reviews on your channel!

@@rromanichel It all depends whether you do city driving or long distance. Be gentle when moving off and reduce your revs when changing gears. I can tell you so far so good with my celeriac, I cannot complain. Approaching 100,000 km and no fault. Serviced regularly, breaks doing fine (never changed). I bet this car will outlive all of us. Brilliant choice if you only need basic transportation. I love the gearbox. Make sure you give the car a check over, follow manufacturers scheduled services. It is worth to keep it. A very fair review, Thomas. What separates you and your colleagues from other reviewers is that you review cars on their own terms - you don't expect the Celerio to be a luxurious, shit-off-a-shovel Grand Tourer, but judge it on its own merits.

We've had our Celerio AGS (the automated manual) five months now and have done just short of 4,000 miles. In that time it's averaged 72.3 mpg (3.91 L/100 km). I attribute this to its light weight, it's high compression ratio engine and it's use of 0W20 engine oil. IMO it beats all the other small cars we've owned (a Daihatsu Sirion, a 1st generation Aygo & a 2nd generation Kia Picanto) and is better than my daughter's new i10 auto which averages just 38 mpg. I liked it so much I found one for my daughter-in-law and I'm now actively looking for a third one so the wife and I can have one each.

@@emilch8341 TBH, I wouldn't know because I honestly never drive that fast! 55 mph is as high as I take it. What I can say is that after 6 years, both wifey's Celerio & mine are still averaging around 70 miles per imperial gallon. That said, with Covid, neither car has been driven much over the last two years. Can't comment on the Mitsubishi. The Mirage (Spacestar) isn't that common here in the UK.

This review is really correct. l can say Suzuki celerio is far cheaper than competitors, all the essential optionals, optimized space, very confortable, many other good optionals available for a small extra price, an excellent automatic transmission last generation available. Last but not least it uses little gasoline. Ok someone may not like the design and prefer other models, some others like more Lamborghini instead, but celerio remain a wonderful city car. l have one since a year. Blue of corse.

It's very cheap and basic motoring (for which there's always a niche) but not really comparable to cars such as the VW Up!. Design wise, as Tomas noted early on, it's a throwback to many years back. Personally, the design and interior reminds me of my 2002 Yaris. A lot of plain plastic too which reflects the marketing proposition. Overall, it's a pretty practical runaround car but really selling purely on price rather than comfort/ performance/ design. VW Up! for me (which is dearer in my country)- based purely on reviews (I haven't had an opportunity to drive one yet) I reckon that I could happily keep driving the Up! for many years whereas I'd reckon I'd be eager to trade in the Celerio after a shorter period. Thanks again for the review Tomas!

It's just a thought but if you are going to road test this class of small, low powered cars, then you really should include a 'when can I change up to 5th gear?' test and a 'how does it drive up hills?' test. My Kia Picanto, even on the flat, 'lugs' terribly at less than 35 mph (56 kph). The Celerio is much more forgiving and is happy to change up at 30 mph. Likewise, the Kia's engine tends to run out of puff on long rising stretches of motorway necessitating a gear change. It's petrol consumption is also quite high (about 34 mpg). In contrast, the Celerio copes far better with such hills and it pull you up quite happily at 50 mph and 50 mpg. I've never driven an Up!/Citigo/Mii but I could easily imagine that pathetic 59 BHP engine really struggling on hills.

The main reason for VW having better materials is that they have a vast sea of parts from 5 other brands /at least/ to choose with. Lower cost as well. Suzuki is a small niche independent company so it is expected to be not quite price competitive.

Τhe cabin is exceptionally spacious and the doors open in 90o angle , thus old people are easily accomodated in the back. The boot is pretty decent . Holds very well the road, feels nippy and has a rather comfy suspension. Drawbacks: α/ the big step revealed once the back seats are fully tilted down b/ The big turning ratio for a small car c/ the increased noise from the tyres . Btw, honest and fair review of yours.

Enjoyed your review. Sadly we no longer have Suzuki products sold in North America, but I enjoyed watching anyway for the car resembled my old Geo Metro, a rebadged Suzuki. The car had a throaty-sounding three cylinder engine that got 40 to 50 miles per gallon and with a five speed stick-shift the car could out accelerate my 95 Nissin Sentra with initial acceleration to about 40 mph. Such small cars as you related in Germany, also are bullied in the United States by the numerous amount of large SUVs and pickups that feel they own the road. Thanks for your review!

Hi. Thanks for a great review. I just bought a Celerio Style. It is only one of two "A" Class cars in Denmark where it is permitted to mount a towbar. The other is Fiat Panda with the terribly noisy TwinAir engine. For me, the towbar is an absolute deal breaker, as I often tow a 400kg trailer so goodbye to Hyundai, Kia, VW and the triplets. I'm selling my 2005 Mitsubishi SpaceStar 1.9 DID because I'm going to save about 1000 € / year in road tax and fuel when I commute back and forth from work. I am not concerned by the safety issues. I think EURO NCAP is not being fair, when they won't test the Celerio with 6 airbags, because, in some european markets, it is sold with only 4. And i can't see how safety belt alarms in the rear makes a car safer.

A very important aspect of all mini cars is the missing horizontal adjustment of the steering wheel. Mini cars have got bluetooth, all kinds of assistants, airbags, airconditioning, power windows, seat heating, heated steering wheel (!) etc, and that's good. But where is the horizontal adjustment of the steering wheel? Too expensive? This cannot be the case. When I looked at the Opel Karl at the dealer a salesman told me he didn't want to sell a Karl but a Corsa. It sounded like the Karl was just there to make the more expensive model, the Corsa, look better. For example by the missing horizontal adjustment of the steering wheel in the Karl. For me definitely a reason not to buy the Karl. Other than that a car of the size of a Karl would be big enough for me. Autogefühl, please address this topic when you are talking with CEOs of car manufacturers.

Hello Thomas, I want to inform you that at 3:45 mins, you say that Celerio in India comes with a diesel engine when in fact it does not:) It only comes in petrol variant with a manual and an option of a AMT(Automated Manual Transmission), However, the other popular hatchback Swift has both petrol & diesel variants

maybe it depends on the region? Check en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suzuki_Celerio Diesel section

I live in India and hence, I know the facts:) The official link is www.marutisuzuki.com/celerio.aspx You can check under the engine technical specs section. The company Suzuki does not operate as a standalone entity in India. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maruti_Suzuki for more details P.S: I love your videos. It is very well made and thoroughly professional. I just thought I will clarify certain details regarding Indian Celerio:)

thanks for the info yes! Strange that they obviously had a launch event for the Diesel: www.cardekho.com/india-car-news/maruti-suzuki-launches-celerio-diesel-from-inr-465-lac-15996.htm

Yes, probably for the future. They are probably testing the waters as of now and if the need arises for a diesel engine then they might launch it this year.

i wouldn't in particular go for this car. I think the peugeot 108 is more fun looking and more comftorable in city driving than this. Also build quality there is a little better. like the review though, all types of cars are being presented on autogefuhl :)
