It is a great bike, a huge following, and plenty of aftermarket parts to make it into almost any bike you might need. That said, if I could choose from the DRz's..... I'd take the "E" version except they aren't selling them in America, if they did they stopped. I'm not sure that I'd buy a new one either, but for the right price I get one used. And most folks will have modded out the bike to some extent. This bike holds high in my list for a bike to buy = in my top 3. Thanks for the coverage.

Great video, I like your style. I can’t make my mind up between the DR or DRZ for my first upgrade from my CRF250 when I get the chance. I haven’t ridden either but i like the sound of the DR for shorter riders being only 174cm myself and I also like the sound of air cooled vs water cooled for reliability. It was good to hear that you owned the DR and put a good amount of kms on it before purchasing the Z.
@MidCoastAdventures4 ай бұрын
Cheers mate. If you're shorter, and don't mind the extra weight (only a problem if you drop the bike 😉) and want a machine that's super reliable, built like a brick outhouse, and has nothing fancy to play up, get the DR650 is a terrific machine/ Perfect for long-range exploring 👍
@mjfalcon0074 ай бұрын
@@MidCoastAdventures Excellent, thanks for the tips. Ideally, I would love to own both ;) The fact that the DR are no longer available appeals to me, so I buy it while they are still around. Hopefully, our ridiculous government won’t legislate them for ‘not adhering’ to the ‘world standards.’

The more I see about the DRZ400E the more I like it.! Currently I have a Honda CB500X which I ❤️ to bits , but at the same time is a little daunting to take to far off road due to its almost 200KG kerb weight. Thanks for sharing your impressions on just how good the DRZ is. ✅

The, CBX 500 is a beautiful mid sized adv bike, keep it if you can. The,DRZ is tractor work horse. Will go anywhere you are brave enough to point it . But no comfort at all compared to the Honda CBX....

Love the simplistic, super strong design of the DRZ (and DR650) just a perfect example of, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" Lots of CFMoto 450's sold up this way - according to local dealers 👍

I had both SM and e. 5 sp is annoying. My e could be a pain starting warm, but great cold. I stalled it a couple of times on slow steep hill climbs, and had to wait for it to cool to start. I prefer fuel injection, modern dash and did I mention 6 gears...AND auto reserve.

Thanks for the great content phill, mate, could you please give us your thoughts on sitting on 100 klm, on both drz and rally. Eg comfort, rev, range, is only having 5 gears really that bad ect
@MidCoastAdventures5 ай бұрын
Thanks Steve 👍 Ok, sitting 100 kph, both are revving pretty hard - 6700 for the Rally and 6000 (with my 15/43 gearing) for the DRZ. Remember both are high revving engines - redline for the Rally around 10700 rpm, and 10500 for the DRZ. That said Rally needs to be sitting in the 5000 to 7000 range to get up and go. DRZ, in the 4000 to 6000 - its a much more torque engine. Long story short, if Suzuki brought out the DRZ (and DR) with 6 speed boxes, wow, what a tough, touring machine as well. Both will do 100 fairly comfortable, both will be revving 👍

I saw The Apprentice Adventurer have a problem with the carby slide, a piece broke off and went through the engine. “ A known problem”. WTF. That’s an issue worth getting your head around. I love my DR650 but that was a shock revelation about the DRZ
