As far back as 2016 the top players had reached a point where they seldom miss a ball, even some of the difficult long shots when shooting from an unstable position near the rail or over a ball. But of course, practice shows, and SVB is known as a master of long and diligent practice. This match shows the results of his dedication to the game.

Thar Magic Rack may be good to rack, but it alters the course of balls running over it after the break. Shane's break when the score was 6 - 8 had an 8-ball it appeared would have froze to the 9-ball, but instead it ran over the Magic Rack and ended up two inches away from the 9. This could have made a big difference in a later shot only because of the Magic Rack.

@AlexZander6884 жыл бұрын
$50,000 for a game. I guess I could call it a Cue Sport. But I still think of it as a game. Efren Reyes back in 2001 for the Tokyo Open with 700 entrants won $170,000 or $160,000. You would need much bigger corporate sponsorship $$$ to have bigger payouts.

@@alcoholya correct, but golf is also seen as a sport, they play serious and are professional. Big difference with what pool is in the US at the moment. Other countries actually organize and help players (netherlands, germany, france, italy, china, japan, and more) and this is started by the players. Play unified rules, have dress codes. Big difference in approach, here it is treated like a hobby, so yes, it will pay like a hobby. Sponsorships will only come if there are people watching, that is the ‘chicken and the egg’ part of it. But it does start with the players. Predator and matchroom are doing their best to elevate it, but it is up to the players to follow through.

The 3-point rule requires that, on a legal break shot, at least three balls must pass an imaginary line known as the headstring or enter a pocket, or any combination of the two. In simple terms, the sum of balls pocketed and those crossing the headstring must be three or more for a break to be considered legal.

@MrJdsenior4 жыл бұрын
I think you better watch again and run a tally sheet...he is not getting 80% wrong. So far, up to the third game, he's gotten very few of them wrong, and most of the ones he did could have been played "equally" well either way. JIC you don't know who he is, he's a 2004 One pocket hall of famer, and a 2011 BCA 8 ball hall of famer. He rolled a 300 bowling game. He was a decent pro boxer, trained under the well known professional trainer, Angelo Dundee (I think) in Miami. He beat Nick Varner in the 1981 National 8 ball finals, and has 14 other significant pro tourney wins over THREE decades. He is the only player in history to have won major tournaments in all four categories of professional pocket billiard: straight pool, one pocket, 8 ball, and 9 ball. He has a book written about him and his "road warrior" exploits, something he made his entire living at for many years. Maybe you don't like his commentary, and that is fine, but have a little respect for his accomplishments, AND his knowledge dude. I'm betting in pool they overshadow your's by about 100,000,000 %. Do you even win your local pool hall's tourneys regularly (handicap DOESN'T count!, not even a little bit)? Same goes for all the rest of you wanna be whiners. I asked a friend of mine once, who missed winning the Australian open Snooker tourney by ONE missed ball, if there was really any difference between excellent amateurs and excellent pros, and he smiled and said...worlds of it. I will give you that he does tend to drone on for anyone watching that knows pool, but there are people out there watching who are extreme newbies, and it might definately be useful to them. If it bothers you, just turn the sound off, it's not hard, if you can't figure out how to do it, just ask somebody. ;-/ Why whine when the fix is so easy? You are obviously a top pro level master (whom I've never heard of) who doesn't need it. Just sayin'.

The players have one extension per rack. If they are already down on a shot after the clock has run out, and they have not used their extension, it is automatically applied. they do not have to call it out. If they already have used their extension, and they are down on the shot when the clock runs out, they are fine to continue with the shot, as long as they do not get up from that shot. If they do get up, they get a foul.

I will give him this, had somebody read it before they heard it, the way he said it could definitely be a choice...I was just interested. Stupid question, probably, but does the three ball break rule include the cue when it gets "lost" or kicked back over the head string? Geez, they need to put a "racking clock" on Chang! :-/ It was funny when Shane kept picking up the other magic rack to give to Chang, with Chang studiously ignoring him. I couldn't see where Shane went that one time with it, but I'll bet it was to the official to ask him to change it out next game. Beautiful simple game, though. He really does work even difficult patterns very efficiently, and with accurate rock direction/travel. 20:07 Hard to tell both the actual geometry and cueing English amount from that angle, but it looked like he might be manufacturing some more angle for some additional sideways rock travel with intentional "miss-aiming" throw. Would have been interesting to see an inline angle shot from the pocket, and then one of the cue ball hit, in that one case (and a few others). As I say though, VERY difficult to tell. 1:38:L16 he definitely employed that technique to "hold the rock". 24:10 That extreme spin on rail high cut angle shot (can go well beyond 90, actually, and be readily made) OFTEN comes with built in scratch potential, my experience, and it almost bit him here. Usually even more likely on the cross side return. The bottom corner looked blocked to me, but that ball really curved coming back off the rail, even from the initial tangent/rail rebound direction, in the non helpful direction, so even less blocked than I thought. "They don't want to shark him while he's racking"... "It wasn't Benjamin Franklin?" "He has a hearing aid...every married man should have one" LOLs 1:24:43 One of those few times where the magic rack changes the layout in a fairly big way Happens very infrequently but that one was massive, almost always when the ball is moving very slowly and almost tangent to the "rack" line. Would have been a tied or virtually tied 8-9, vs and 8 and 9 that were wide open. Not as much an issue at pro level, especially if a breakout is close, but a very bid deal for lower level players. I do think the magic rack type racks overall give better racks, though, with a good matched ball set.

@MrJdsenior4 жыл бұрын
Yes, Colby has it right, I think it IS to prevent intentional spacing in the rack, which can alter the spread immensely in the breaker's favor. A few of the current rules were made "against" Corey Dual's incredibly effective 8 ball pattern racking, and soft breaking the 9 ball rack (the three over/down rule here). If you look at the 8 ball breaking patterns Dual used to generate, they were almost overwhelmingly beneficial. He was a very clever dude, quite innovative in a few areas. I noticed Shaw checked a few of Chang's racks, and vise versa in the lead in match to this, as well. If you haven't seen that match, give it a look/see, and stick with it to the end, one of the best "lotta heart" matches I have seen in a long time.

Is it just me are does it seem like Shane's game has not been as good since he changed to the carbon fiber shaft !?

he still wins all of the time and never loses gambling ... plus he makes the most money as a player in pool. Other than Venom who is killing it. But i feel you on that point

I have wondered this myself having recently watched a lot of his matches from 2010 to 2017ish. And of course wat he'd another while using the carbon fiber shaft. I agree. Don't have anything to back it up but it just seems his control was better with the wood shaft

What the heck is going on with the illegal breaks. They make a ball, don’t scratch, hit the head ball and it’s illegal. Damn announcer don’t explain why it’s illegal. They just say it’s illegal. What the hell.

3 balls must cross the head string to be legal to prevent soft breaks. Or a combo of balls crossing the head string and pocketed balls must equal 3

Yep, as much as I like Corey deuel, he's the reason they came up with the rule. Dude figured out how to break and run out with such consistency, they had to make a rule on "proper" breaks. Lol

Is Chang’s extra slow play putting Danny to sleep? Or is he just so stoned that he forgot to swallow that last mouthful of applesauce?

8 minutes into the video before ANY actual pool playing begins. People in our industry wonder why pool isn't more main stream, just show them the beginning of this video. Literally took almost 3-4 minutes to get the balls racked for the very 1st game. Could you imagine watching an NFL game, and the kicker keeps adjusting the ball on the tee for 3-4 minutes? 🤣

Watching Chang rack was painful, even svb stood there with an extra rack trying to help him speed it up.

I hate to turn off the sound but, crap... the commentator is driving me crazy with his incessant drivel that is consistently wrong. I'd rather listen to Chinese commentary than this nonsense.

Why was the last rack an illegal break
@justinthomas28994 жыл бұрын
3 ball rule. 3 balls have to pass the head string or be pocketed, or a combination of the 2. Looks like Shane only had 1 pocketed and only 1 passed the head string
