Wouldn't you want to cut your log on the OTHER side of the fulcrum, so your blade isn't getting pinched after you get halfway through the cut? Instead of gravity squeezing the log back together, it would pull the two halves apart, opening the cut even wider and making it even easier to cut through. If not, please correct my logic and let me know where it's flawed.

I've owned several 21 inch saws, been buying these for close to 30 years. We had them for our Boy Scout troop for our Boundary Waters trips, and I never go camping without one...they just pack nicely and get the job done.

I think for my needs I would stay with the 15". It's the perfect size for backpacking. I doubt I would need the bigger saw when I'm out and about on an adventure. Your needs may be different though. Ultimately it's a killer saw! The only negative is the price for the blades. A replacement 15" blade is almost as much as the saw itself which is insane!

I appreciate the tip my friend. I will give that a shot possibly later this week.

I have had a 21" Sven Saw for about 10yrs. It doesn't see over much use. Not bad but don't think it is as rigid as a small Bow Saw. On the plus side, easy to assemble, blade very sharp, packs down VERY compact. Good solution for trekking in the backwoods.

Thanks again my friend. I really appreciate your feedback. As for my go-to backpacking survival knife...I have to say that I really like the Ka-Bar BK2. It has some faults but it's good at so many things; hard not to take it along everywhere I go. It's a jack of all trades sort of blade. Take care pal.

Yep, it does come with one blade. Terrific saw!

'The stand' called. They want their music back. ;) I really enjoy my 21" Sven saw. It became a backpacking staple with me years ago. The 21" saw is great because you can adapt standard bowsaw blades to it with a little modification. Nice review!

Hey there FarWest, hope you are well. I just shot a camping video Friday and if possible I will get it all edited and put online today. I'll then post a video of the gear I used for that trip. I've got tons of gear.....my wife says I have a problem.....That couldn't be right. Haha :) Thank you.
@phcib21956 жыл бұрын
I have that saw and love it,,,only problem is possibly losing the wing nut and the procedure to fold up the saw and unfold the saw,,,,it cuts faster than my silky saws but the silky saw you just open the blade from the handle and it clicks in place and the silky saw can cut in tight quarters...good review...

just got mine, checked out your video to make sure I was storing it right. if you want another saw to check out get a big boy silky folding saw. I had a Gerber folding saw but it was weak and the blade would bend. so when the weather breaks a little i'll be trying out my sven and silky big boy.

The only consistent negative comment I've ever heard about the Sven was that folks tend to misplace their wingnut. My thought is to drill a small hole in one of it's ears and run some hi viz paracord through it and tie it off in a conspicuous knot in case it falls into a pile of leaves. Problem solved. BTW- I have owned my 21" Sven Saw for around 40 years and aside from the Hi-Viz lanyard for the wingnut the only mod I've done is a Hi-Viz paracord handle wrap and a Frost River waxed canvas case. I finally replaced it's original blad a few years ago and voila'! it's like brand new!

Omg I had one of them years ago but couldn't get a replacement blade. Now Amazon has their proprietary blades lol. Got lost in a move. Also looking at Agawa but they are proud of them. Lol

I agree with your enthusiasm for the Sven saw! I take my 21-inch yakpakking, and it always serves me great. The 21-in in noticeably faster at cutting large logs than the 15-inch. Say, how about a review on some of the new lightweight camp furniture, e.g., the REI ultralight chair? I'm getting tired of sitting on logs and rocks! I so enjoy your great videos! Awesome video, I was between the sawvivor , this saw and the silky big boy
@jakegti311 жыл бұрын
well I'm a firm believer in individual body mechanics. So as test I bought all three to see which system worked the best. The the 21' sven I felt dominated the 18' sawvivor. I'm going to suggest that if you're tall like me 6'4+ and carry a large pack that a 21' sven is a great choice. Now for the winner. Silky Big-boy come's in first. I didn't think I'd choose a folding frame lock style saw...But It's just such a workhorse... quick deployment and aggressive teeth, Buy it.

@TheOutdoorGearReview10 жыл бұрын
I would use the Laplander for smaller jobs. Both are fantastic tools. - Luke
@southernfryedyankee10 жыл бұрын
I own the Bahco laplander and I think it is an awesome saw however the tip is not protected so if you accidentally pull to far and push you bend the tip. This Sven saw looks outstanding and I may get 1 for when I am camping and use my Laplander for when I am on a fatwood hunt.

Hi Luke. Sorry, but I never liked this saw at all. My 2 favorites here are the Silky BigBoy 2000 (a 15" saw) and the Trailblazer Take-Down Bucksaw. A subscriber and I did several tests this year, and those two saws above cut through a log the same thickness as the one in your video with half the number of strokes. I even describe in the intro just why I don't like the design of the Sven. I'm uploading the video tonight and will post a link tomorrow. But I think once you see the Silky and Trailblazer you'll see why I think there are much better alternatives to a Sven.
