I listened to this song the night Chris died. I cried like a baby for about 20 minutes. Chris has meant a lot to my life. I have seen him live several times with his different bands. The last time was last year for his acoustic show. I was wearing a soundgarden shirt, and he pointed me out in the audience and said cool t shirt! I will cherish that tiny piece of personal interaction forever. The voice of a generation. Gone too soon. Love from New Zealand.

And Vince also did this song as a duet with Dolly Parton, the country music legend who actually wrote this beautiful, heartbreaking ballad. Both versions are worth checking out. If this was indeed Chris's tribute to Whitney Houston, I'm so very glad he did NOT over sing the chorus the way Whitney did, almost murdering the song for me. Subtle works so much better on this song and Whitney's version was the complete bombastic polar opposite of subtle.

me too. and in a different way this song has ever made me feel. hurt from loved lost, our loves ones lost, but never as someone who sang it and went onto take their own life. the 15th was 18 years since I lose my Uncle to suicide. and when I heard about Chris is just brought back a flood of emotions about my Uncle. I would have never thought of it as that kind of goodbye song until now. and it breaks my heart. didn't know that song's lyrics could make me feel more emotional, but now I'll never hear it and not think of Chris, and all those we lose to suicide everyday. may they all rest and finally find true peace forever.

Just found this. He was my angel on 1/8/2024. He came to stand beside me when I was put into a torture device in jail, and an hour into it, when I was losing consciousness, he told me to pray and that he would be with me until the corrections people let me free, and he was. I went into psychosis for a few months after, and he watched over me, but now I don't think I will be seeing him anymore. You are my angel, and I still have suicidal ideation, he has lessened it considerably. They need to do better in our institutions when dealing with mental health. It's infuriating how these "professionals" don't listen and do these inhumane things which only make things worse. Thank you Chris. Until we meet again. RIP

I'm just now hearing this song and it literally made me break down to the floor crying uncontrollably. I haven't stopped crying over his death since it happened near 3 wks ago. When I first heard the news from a facebook friend's post early in the AM the day of, I had that sinking feeling. I was trippin'. I could not believe what I was fucking reading. I didn't. I had to look it up online myself. This will forever be a hit to all of our hearts. This truly is a tragedy like no other. Not in my book. When Kurt Cobain killed himself, I wasn't hit by it because well, I was a young boy. I knew the band Nirvana and I was shocked to learn of his death but it didn't affect me. Wayne Static's death fucked up my head. So did Weiland's in a big way. Bothe of their deaths were painful blows, but this is different by the nature of his death. He fucking killed himself?! Wtf!!! And we'd still have him alive today if it wasn't for that medication Ativan that is well known for making people want to kill themselves. This drug needs to be banned. I'm still in disbelief that he's fucking dead and gone. He's dead and gone?! Wtf?!! He's dead and gone??? This isn't happening.

I will always love Chris' voice lyrics, smile.....can't figure why I am so emotional when it comes to him, we have had similar issues depression (90% of my life, and addiction brought on by just wanting to feel better, and getting hit by a car. This video always comes back to me, reminding me of the power of music. I never expected a death to hit me as hard as Chris Cornell's has, even now, more than a year on, I watch this and it all comes back.
