Wow. So cool. I’m trying ‘Plein Air’ painting in my community. There is a brand new group forming. I’m watching Gurney’s tutorials and so far my stuff is terrible. Mainly because I’m trying watercolor which I’m an amateur at. So far the cool thing about it is the peace of working outside and the memory made. Even better my son who is 14 is trying it with me. Now I have a reason to go spend some time at some cool places. I’m loving Lee’s idea of not doing all of the scene.

I think the biggest benefit of observational drawing is it makes me remember the joy of drawing. The experience is way beyond the drawing, which is often incidental to the experience. There is something visceral about experiencing input to all five senses that one cannot get any other way. It is also a good practice in storytelling by documenting from real life. Beyond just the sketch, look up reportage. I started urban sketching in 2012 and it has kept me from burning out. The joy of my sketchbook practice is it is not for a client.😊 That being said, drawing from life does make world-building much easier because it gives an illustrator a lot more to pull from. Experience in general does that. There is a lot we are expected to illustrate that we are not experts in. 🤣

The algorithm punishes changes to styles and subject matter. That's probably why you keep seeing similar works from creators. Any changes from the already successful that have slightly less engagement gets buried.

The certifications might get someone a job in the industrial side--like running a printing machine or similar--more than they do anything else

You really might be able to do anything if you wear a yellow vest-a few years ago while living in idaho everyone in the apartment complex got an email from the landlord telling us we should make sure we locked our doors because someone in a yellow vest was just walking into houses and eating their food. Lol
