I don't think Swan yelling his name is a psych-up. If you search his old shack you can find a note that just reads "YOU ARE SWANN.", suggesting he was losing his identity as his mind deteriorated. He's yelling his name in a desperate attempt to cling to what little of the man he used to be remains, either still somewhat lucid and doing it consciously or completely lost and merely doing it out of muscle memory like a Romero zombie.

Swann is one of the best, yet saddest enemies I've ever seen. His story can be easily missed, due to the fact that most players just loot him and leave. Its an incredibly amazing encounter, it gives you many reasons not to side with The Institute. It also shows that super mutant behemoths are not inherently aggressive, yet are simply destroyed mentally through the pain and suffering they had to endure, and simply attack out of fear, not wanting to endure more pain. In all my playthroughs of fallout four, I've always left Swann alone. It would be great if fallout four elaborated on Swann, and maybe in some way ease the pain for him, or hell maybe even give him the material that reverted Virgil, but on a larger scale. Swann is one of the most underused characters I've ever seen in a game, and has so much more potential.

@@college54114 "If the player has visited Swan's Pond, and read the notes there, they can ask Virgil if he remembers Edgar Swann after the first speech check. This will lead to a medium speech check to convince him to end his life (bypassing the hard check)."

@@VaciliNikoMavichWait what ? I could have sworn a New Vegas fanboy explained to me that New Vegas was a masterpiece because you could force people to Minecraft themselves with a skill check, and it's also possible in FO4 ? Don't tell that to the "Yes, No, Maybe, Sarcastic" crowd, it'll destroy them.

Woah, that thing is more than a super mutant in a pond named Swan?

I wrote a 7 page research paper about Edgar Swann and how his story can be compared to that of Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky. It was a final project for a class and I ended up having to cut a lot of information because it got too long.

When I first tried taking on Swan. I dropped a bunch of frag mines on the same spot. Aggro'd swan, and turned myself into a high altitude weather balloon.

My overconfident ass wandered into the common in my T-45 suit, pissed off Swan and then spent 15 minutes ducking in and out of the APC whilst spamming molotovs. No ammo left so ended up punching my way through Vault 114 to get Nick. Annoying at the time but funny to remember now.

I think we can all agree we got a jump scare when first playing the game and trying our best to run away. My favourite weapon in the game is the Big Jim. I used it against Swan and he was crippled.

There is supposed to be a pair of BOOTs in a safe, in one of the buildings of downtown Boston. The boots let you fall from any height without damage. Haven't found them yet.
