On my quest to further explore Super Mario 64, I've done something quite bizarre. I've flooded Bob-omb Battlefield to see what changes about the game when water is added to non-water areas... And well, everything breaks! Chain chomps float, cannons tear holes in the universe, and King Bob-omb becomes invincible. Join me for a deep dive (literally) into this classic stage in a way that hasn't been documented before!

Negative some levels require the cannon yet some stars have a cannonless strategy it wouldn't work in water. Plus many more reasons.

I think it probably is, but it would just be boring because you could swim to most of the stars and there would be basically no platforming.

Boxes can't be broken. Switches can't be hit. Mario has to land on the ground for key and star doors to do their animation. Because the levels are water, there is no ground to detect.

Flood every level except for Jolly Roger Bay, and Dire Dire Docks, just remove all the water there

I would imagine for the lava and water levels it will be harder to get around since both are supposed to be programmed in for movement's sake. Yeah the lava level would be safer but for certain stars the lava needs to be there.

Most objects dont have specialized water behaviour, so most objects that are normally underwater will likely behave the same without water (such as Unagi the Eel)

@@awesomeguy2009 You can't die from a single fall damage at full health you dip. You fall into a kill plane. You can't ground pound in the flip state from entering levels either.

My first year at E3 I was able to try the original version of the product and it was pretty good. This year I was able to try out the classic version on Sonic Adventure 2: Battle while at E3, among other titles. It was such a cool experience, honestly. Definitely excited to see the classic version come to life in the months ahead.

I wouldn't say that my dislike of water levels is necessarily due to the anxiety of running out of air or their puzzle-y nature. I would say water levels suck mostly because of how slow and dull the gameplay becomes when you are limited to only one type of movement (swimming), so you can no longer jump/roll/etc. On top of that, swimming is much slower running, which makes the gameplay a drag. I'm sure a lot of people hate water levels for this same reason. This is something Majora's Mask handled really well with the Sora mask; you can move really fast, jump out of the water like a dolphin, do barrel rolls, etc. This makes swimming a lot more dynamic and actually FUN, something that I don't think I've encountered in any other game so far.

I swear to god that once you started swimming with King Bob-omb, I thought "I wonder what would happen if you went into a cannon with him. shortly after, "Oh and swimming into a cannon while holding the king will just make you drop him." I burst laughed and scared my cat. Thanks for that lol.

No, since you cannot enter the doors while underwater. But if you don't flood peach's castle, (and also remove water from DDD and JRB) then yes, You can beat the game because Swanky has recently done a video on this.

You don't need to breathe to emit air bubbles, you just have to trap a bit of air inside that takes a while to escape. A bob-omb's insides won't flood as quickly as its outsides. I mean, not that that matters so much in a video game, obviously real world physics don't apply, but it's not something that looks out of place to see air bubbles from a recently flooded non-living object. I would love to see more of this!

1. You can not enter wraps while holding. 2. If you handsfree teleport with King Bob-omb then he will disappear from the course.

My all-time favorite underwater swimning level in 3D has to be the diving level in "tomb raider underworld". You start on or near her boat (memory a bit fuzzy after a decade), and after starting you perform a deep dive. When she resurfaces the sunlight on the water looks amazing

I think I know why the Chain Chomp "Floats". When you throw a Bob Omb at the chain chomp, the explosion makes it shoot upwards. and it's likely a new player would try this first, so they programmed the chain chomp to shoot upwards when hit by a Bob Omb. Being underwater simply triggered this animation.

I think it was Modern Vintage Gamer who did a hands on and he found it to be the case. For most games, barely any difference unless you try one of the games they specifically mention (mainly Switch games I believe). I'd go with MVG's review.

I've made some of these glitches in super Mario odyssey 64 mod. I've deleted Mario out of existence by throwing Cappy while in the cannon, I've upwarped by jumping on Cappy while in the water, because this was also a state change which made a water upwarp to the surface.
