OMG! This is absolutely fantastic! The editing is razor edge. I had to sleep with the light on.

The barber character is portrayed by Howard Terbell McNear (January 27, 1905 - January 3, 1969). He appeared on the Andy Griffith Show on 80 episodes from 1961 to 1967. During that period, he had a stroke and needed 18 months to achieve a partial recovery. After his stroke, Andy Griffith asked him to return to the series, despite McNear's inability to walk or stand. The production crew accommodated him, as he was usually seen on screen, either seated, or standing, with support. It is testimony to Griffith's great kindness and humanity that he kept McNear on staff, despite his poor health. (Ref: Wikipedia)

that was very well done. everyone loved floyd, that's why in later episodes, when the actor became disabled and couldn't walk or stand well, he was kept on the show, and shown sitting down. they even rigged a special support stand thing for those times when he had to stand behind the barber chair. this was a well sung, well edited clip. good work.

This was briliant work. How can you not love Floyd the Barber?
Ignore the snipers. Does anyone really think that Howard McNear wouldn't be entirely delighted by this brilliant, and obviously affectionate, spoof blending the Mayberry lore with Sweeny Todd? He'd be howling, I'm sure. This is absolutely inspired, I'm sure he'd say.

Genius editing as well as an inventive lyric! I hope this is shared with Mr. Sondheim. Thanks for creating this. It's obvious it was done with great affection!

Yes--as the lyrics clearly state: "He had a shop in Mayberry Town, He had a stroke so he always sat down..." But thank you for the affirmation.

Wow. This is so far above most of the youtube videos. I am saving as a favorite and subscribing!! McNear was a wonderful actor and did more with less lines than anyone i ever saw.

Someone asked me what is my ideal man. I replied "Howard Sprague" in a heartbeat. With wild flirtatious relationship with Floyd.

“We sincerely apologize to anyone who was offended by our attempt at humor regarding the health of Howard McNear" --Gilbert Gottfried We also commend anyone who managed to notice that, while we recorded the song with the name 'Emmet' in the lyrics, we could only find a clip of 'Otis.' It turns out our research was flawed (albeit nonexistent); "Emmet' did not appear on the Andy Griffith Show until after Floyd had left.

Super funny! Howard Mcnear was a great yet underated actor. I think he would have liked this. Do more! JOE

This is quite an amazing piece of work: a good parody of the song itself, coupled with dozens of carefully-chosen clips. I love when the choir appears!

Great video. I love the Andy Griffith Show and all the characters. Howard McNear was a wonderful actor. and did a great job with Floyd the barber. He also played "Andy the barber" in a "Leave It To Beaver" episode. The episode where Ward yells at Wally for using his razor.

That was brilliant. I happened by this because I read Goober died today. Thought, my fav character on AG show was Floyd. He was great. You really put this together brilliantly. What voices and pace . I'd love an Otis version too.

My mom made me go to this crazy old barber when I was a kid in the mid 1960s. He was on old guy in his 70s who probably had Alzheimer's disease. He would space-out while he was cutting my hair. He would stop and just stare in the corner. Then he would start talking to me like I was one of his army buddies from World War One.
