See, the thing is, I'm Indian, which is why as a kid I found her KZbin videos hilarious. I found it relatable, and her style back then was funny. I felt like I could relate to her as a person, which just made it nicer. Back when she wasn't that popular, she just made funny, relatable videos and people loved that. Now, she's trying too hard. I've stopped watching her videos, because they aren't funny. Every video has something inappropriate in it, and if not (rarely) it's so unrelatable and even a bit racist in a way. She makes Indians sound like horribly dumb people, etc. when the stuff in her videos are no longer funny or even true. Because fun fact: Indians don't actually speak in that accent. Her videos were her being that cool, modern kid in her family. But at least her videos had a few jokes in them. But this show of hers is a mess. She didn't even talk about the current situation with the virus. There's no audience interaction. It's all about her and how she isn't white or a virgin. Why does she have to bring up the 'i'm not white'? It's so stupid. And the virgin? Majority of her viewers are young, and someone needs to tell her that. I was a freaking kid watching those highly inappropriate videos. She needs to wake up and see the world. A problem doesn't get fixed if you keep making it worse. Ty for listening to my highly pissed off rant.

Omg you said this perfectly! I feel this way too!! When I first found her videos, I was really glad that there was someone making videos that I could relate to. I was honestly such a big fan, that I even bought her book (Which is currently collecting dust). I feel like her ego kinda inflated once she started gaining more fans... I remember how once she stated that her making videos about her indian parents was kinda putting her in this corner and she needed to branch out more and make videos about other things. But now I think she's in this corner, where she only makes the same type of jokes over and over again and it makes me sad, because she was genuinely funny once. I hope this makes sense but, I really hope that late night television finds a woman of color who is able to make up for what a failure this show came out to be.

The problem with Lilly is that she refuses to change and grow. It sucks that Lilly Singh doesn’t realize the people critiquing her only want her to improve and get better and grow. If she cares about the show or the people who work for her at all she should batten down and start making changes. Same with Graham Norton. Asked some people on stage to fill in for the guests and be their 'shadows' whilst recording a later segment (this was all before the guests were brought out for interviews). Graham asked all their names, and then at the ed at the red chair, there was one of the same audience members and without hesitation remembered her name. In general. He introduced himself, explained how the show would be filmed that night, and joked about how it might be different to when we see it air. At the end of the show he came back out and genuinely thanked the audience for coming and dealing with the slightly cold studio. He was utterly professional, completely genuine, and treated the audience like key members of the show (which they kind of are in a studio entertainment show). I gained a huge amount of respect for him that evening. It was evident that he was in control of everything and we were in good hands. I truly felt like I was watching a master Entertainer at work.

I'll answer this for you, because it's not truth. If she would tell the truth she would tell you that I was an audience member that decided to gather fan to celebrate her and push her to finish the season. There is no truth in myself or any of the other being paid or given any currency in exchange for attending and or being featured on the show. It is shameful that you guys take others words and don't go to the source nor see for yourself. In reference back to the featuring her audience members, we attended a taping and we thought that we would great humans and love on her and make her happy by get other fans to come out to Los Angeles and see her taping in person and SURPRISE her because we were being genuine supporters and believers in who and what she is and does. The sad part about this is that someone took such a genuine moment for someone they love and destroyed it, not only that but imagine her saying that Ellen did this same thing, oh wait, Ellen does feature her fans and audience members on her show and play games with them. Interesting. Sounds like a talk show. Paying an audience sounds a little goofy don't you think and also, I have a job and my job isn't getting paid to be some "fake audience member". I admit I was on her show but I had no idea until it happened in the taping. I used to be a huge fan of hers back in the day when she was making videos in her room in Canada. She had way more humility and in my opinion was genuinely funny. And it’s not like I didn’t want her career to excel either. KZbin channels grow and that’s great. But after she moved to LA and her videos started to become overproduced and started to turn into what I like to call cookie cutter LA KZbinr, I was out. She had lost that charm about her, and now she’s just obnoxiously cocky. The reason Lily got famous was because she put pretty good content out at first. And now all she does is go on about how rich and famous and it’s amazing that she can do that while being a bisexual woman of color. Too bad she can’t be a funny bisexual woman of color. 🙄

I think this was probably one of the fairest reviews of Lilly's show I've seen so far. Her show was a rush job. It was all filmed in an extremely short amount of time and doing 2-3 shows a day has got to be exhausting. So I hope she can grow as a host, find funnier jokes, and accept criticism. But man, this ain't KZbin girl. You got a long way to go. But I do think it's possible for her to get there like you said.
@AbsentMinded6192 жыл бұрын
To be honest a real talk show is probably easier in many ways. She has people who literally write the jokes for her. All she has to do is recognize good jokes and deliver them with some charisma. Her YT channel, as I understand it, mainly appealed to kids. But some KZbinrs are funnier, wittier and more genuinely talented than most major talk show hosts, and have much bigger audiences, just by being actually funny or insightful.

Lilly was funny to me when I was 16 years old watching her imitate her parents. I was so sad to see how cringe-worthy her NBC show turned out to be. Each episode is just an exhausting experience of secondhand embarrassment. There is no room to breathe in her segments. Everything is too scripted. Lilly is definitely not an interviewer and she struggles in the traditional comedy aspects. I'm not surprised that the producers overdo directing the audience as well. I was happy to see a bisexual woman of color get her own late-night show. As a bisexual woman of color myself, I'm proud of her for making history. I think Lilly could take lessons from early Conan O’Brien. He was always in danger of being cancelled in his early years, especially because no one had heard of him and he had almost no on-camera experience. Conan knew that, so he made sure to write stuff that was funny, creative, and authentic, because he knew he would definitely be fired if he didn’t. He made sure to listen to critiques and evolve, and got a cult following that eventually evolved into mainstream success, and now he’s the 3rd longest running talk show host. Way I see it: this could either be an underdog show that emerges from an echo chamber to a good audience, like Late Night with Conan O’Brien, or a show that feels hollow and gets cancelled, like John Mulaney’s short-lived sitcom Mulaney.

I was an audience member in two jerry springer episodes. That also wasn’t planned. The tickets were free, we came for the first episode taping, and we were just invited to stay for a second taping. (We were also invited to stay for a taping of the Steve wilkow show after that, but my friend and I were too tired, and had to leave.) before the show, they came out, explained the “prompts” aka, applause, the Jerry chant, boo, etc. yes, we had minor audience coaching during the taping, but it was all an exaggeration of legitimate reactions to the content of the episode. In one episode, An audience shot pans directly on my face, (no I never saw the premiered episode, but i had a friend screen shot it and send it to me, when one guest bodyslammed another) I can confirm my reaction was genuine. The coaching is only to exaggerate it for television. Nothing was technically forced. Forcing an audience reaction makes the whole thing completely ridiculous.

It's incredibly counterproductive to say you're for equality and you just wanna be seen as a typical member of society like the rest, but then also do the most to stand out. It's not a fucking personality trait to fall for a different pair of chromosomes lmao. "The main people I hear complaining about this are homophobes", well don't you just love labeling people? What an easy win, someone doesn't agree with you so they must be a homophobe and their points must be completely invalid! The exact reason why I am against making sexuality a personality trait, is because I am not a homophobe and I think it is not helping people to build your character around it? Wanna normalize it?
