When you live inland like I do, the beach is a rare treat, you don’t have the luxury to be a shell snob. You take what’s available. I shell vicariously through your videos and I love your trips to Kice Island because it is so generous with its treasures!

No shell snob here either, I can never, ever pass up an Auger and they are pretty common. I'm always excited to find other great shells and I have a few standouts, but those Augers are all over my house, lol. By the way, I love this week's haul, what a fabulous variety.
@SWFBeachLife2 жыл бұрын
I like those augers too! Plus they don't take up much room. I have a little dish of just augers and I'm not sure if I'll ever do anything with them but I keep picking them up 😅

@@SWFBeachLife Ah, I have a little dish that contains my small collection of baby Horse Conchs, it reminds me of fall and candy corn. But my Augers are displayed in spice jars and votive cups scattered around the house. I did really start collecting them because they were so easy to get home, but now I’m a little addicted to them. I love a good Banded Tulip too! I bet beach karma made it the only shell that guy found for awhile, lol.

Two of my favorite shells are the turkey wing and the auger. Both are pretty common, but I rarely pass one up. I don't think banded tulips are rookie shells at all. Maybe the Florida fighting conch could be called that because there are so many, but I never pass up one of those if it is in good condition. I came home with quite a few of them and love each and every one of them!
@SWFBeachLife2 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing....if there was a rookie shell it would be a FFC but I absolutely love them. The only thing I'd change about them is I would make them lighter so I could carry more 😅

@junebarnhouse14822 жыл бұрын
Since the rented wheelchair is not allowed to be transported, I will mostly be limited to Marco Island. I may try to schedule 1 excursion, since my daughter will need to stay with my mother. If you could choose only 1 island/beach (no kayak), which would you suggest?
@SWFBeachLife2 жыл бұрын
@@junebarnhouse1482 Since I only know Marco from the 2 places you can park, Tigertail (the beach is VERY far from the parking lot) and the South lot, I would say the south end of Marco. There is a sidewalk and boardwalk almost all the way to the beach from the parking lot and then its a straight shot to the water. It's hit or miss as far as the shells, but it should be the easiest beach to visit with a wheelchair down there that I'm aware of.

Thank you for my Sunday-funday indulgence! I was shelling all last week at Litchfield Beach, SC, and with your help, I identified several shells, like a large alternate tellin and disc docemia, as well as some shells I’d never collected there before, like a couple of wentletraps (including a brown-band) and a buttercup lucine. I’m always amazed at how the beach changes. Some years it’s shark eyes or sand dollars. This year, it was tiny whelk-, lettered olive-, and urchinpalooza. I’m currently bleach-soaking my finds right now. Thanks again for your beach walks-not only are the educational, but I love the virtual hunt! And thank you for pointing out how much trash is out there. This year, among everything, I found four pair of sunglasses (one of which I actually dusted off and used b/c they were polarized!), a cellphone, juice packs, plastic cups, glass, beer cans, and straws. My husband was amazed at how much I deposited in the can each day!

Hi Sharmon!!! Kice Island is my absolute favorite. Never disappoints! I love the new find, broad paper cockle, never seen one. It's like a reverse bittersweet. And your shell finds were fantastic. My favorites are always gaudy nauticas, cones and tulips and you sure found some nice ones. Oh who am I kidding. I love every shell, even broken ones have their own personality! As always you made my day. Can't wait for Sunday's to roll around. Just keep shelling!!!!!. My trips from greenville SC to Florida will only be once a year and in the winter season so shelling with you is just like being there every week!!

Yeah, I noticed I was saying I like every shell I pick up and it's true. They are all so fascinating and there is no way I could choose just one. Smart to come in the winter. It's a little more crowded but the shells!!! Thank you for coming to the beach with me!
