SWFL Eagles_ New Nest Building~ E15 'Mobs' M15 & Stick At Old Nest~ E15 & The Steeple 10-29-20

Harriet & M15 added more sticks and nest material to the new nest, gathering sticks from the trees in the west pasture. E15 watched them as he/she perched in the nest tree, pasture snag, CSPS (church side pond snag), office oak, utility pole and last but not least the church steeple.M15 delivered one stick to the old nest and was placing it as E15 flew in and 'mobbed' M15 and the stick.

Wow my heavens H & M sure did a lot of work today on the new nest!! Busy, busy, busy!! Poor M I felt so bad for him when he took a stick to the old nest and E15 ran him off... so sad. Looks like E15 has decided to make the nest her forever home. Smart mom and dad realized it and build a condo. Lot of parents wish they could just move out when the bratty kids won’t leave. This is going to be adventurous. Thank you! Great video

@@crkwon3780 worrying does no one any good. Harriet and M15 have not been concerned about E15 still being there. There have been other juveniles that have not left their natal area and the one nest I have heard about did not have a problem with that juvenile remaining distant from the eaglets.

Another great vid, Vicki! Love watching the Eagles gliding back and forth and flying so effortlessly with the sticks for both Nests. E15 has been getting out more and looks like E15 is back at the Church Steeple again. Had previously seen snapshots of E15 on the Church not too long ago at the Hancock Wildlife Forum page that highlights this Nest's Daily Activity and all of you who do the vids. When Admin announces when you are at the Nest area in early morning posts, I know a video is coming later that day!

New tree has SO much character, and lots of great branching & fledging branches (and a great man cave!) but it's still kinna sad we won't see much. As always, thank goodness you're there. It's going to be an interesting time when eggs/nestlings show up!!

Susan North, we do not know why their reason for building another nest. Eagles are known to have more than one nest in their territory. We do not know why E15 has not left the area. However, juveniles travel only as far as they need to for an adequate food source. And E15 has found that here, foraging on their own and also getting food from H & M.

Sad thing is it won't be any cameras in the New Nest this year. Due to the New Nesting Season has started and they can't Disturb the Eagles during Nesting Season by Law ☹️

M15 brings a stick to the old nest? Are they building two at once? It's amazing that he tolerates E15's behavior. Eagles are also hard-wired to breed, and during breeding season to restore nests or build old ones. Vicki, I hope someone at RRP is taking note of all the behaviors that you have documented this year. Eagle life is much more complex than most people, even eagle lovers, ever thought. The new tree has many good features but lacks cams :(

No there won't be. It's to late to put camera's on the New Nest Tree because they can't disturb the Eagle's during Nest Season. And Nest Season had already started ☹️

The eagles will abandon the alternative nest when the eagles experienced any human activity close or within the nest area. This is based on field observation studies. The new nest is not a guarantee that they will use it for the next egg laying. There is still a possibility that they may use the old nest especially if E15 decided to leave for a communal roosting ground. There is still plenty of time to restore the old nest once vacated completely by E15.

Velvet Holz, the new nest is in the adjacent pasture about 900 feet to the west. We do not know the reason they are building the new nest, only they do.

It has ti be big and heavy so it can withstand the cold and wind, My thoughts is that I hope H and M15 settle in the new nest and start a family away from E15. He/she will destroy the eggs. That will just kill Harriett.

Claudia Couch, experienced eagles can build a suitable nest in 1-2 weeks.

@@dorothywest6963 the nest needs to be well interwoven with the placement of sticks which gives it strength. Each year eagles add to their nest making it bigger and heavier. The nest material they add for the nest bowl gives it a suitable temperature base whether it needs to be warmer or cooler.

It looks to me that they are letting E15 have the original nest area for herself & they will raise their future brood at this new one. So interesting to watch their behaviors!
