At the 8 minute or so mark, the input that gradient compression hose pushes excess fluid up extremity is spot on. As a Certified Compression Garment Fitter, I take as long a time as needed to help patients understand the easiest ways to don a gradient compression garment (to start, turn hose right side out, fold leg portion of stocking down over the foot section, put your thumbs on each side of foot section of stocking, pop it open while simultaneously pulling it onto just your foot, then start going up the leg and let your leg shape pull fabric off your thumbs. Practice makes perfect on this step. Also, I teach people how high to go on a leg with the below knee hose (not into popiteal crease as that can be uncomfortable) and not to leave too much fabric high on the leg that might roll over and create a tourniquet effect. Next, how to pull off leg so hose is inside out and ready for you to go over to bathroom sink and wash stockings with soap and water. The murky water shows how much we sweat in our feet and legs. Rinse in fresh water. Oh, and remember to put on compression hose as you start to get out of bed in morning. That is when your legs are their least swollen. The compression material does wear out, probably not as fast as manufacturers would have you believe. I have my own hose to treat my swelling and even if less effective over time, it is better than no treatment. Not that much a fan of thigh high compression hose but some people have varicosities around the knee that knee high fabric irritates so thigh high a solution. Open toe variation appeals to people with toe deformities. The seam at the open toe design feels strange to my foot but again what works best for your needs is important. TED hose are for people that are bedbound or sitting in a wheelchair all the time. If not your situation, best to go with a true gradient hose. Better fabrics cost more than cheap fabrics that are harder to don. Hope this helps.

The absolute best way to keep it down to almost nothing is lots of regular full body exercise both aerobic and full body stretching..weekly yoga is fantastic for it. when it gets really bad, I take a prescription diuretic and that really really helps a lot.

Hi fellows, I enjoy your videos and I also use Tubi grips. I did not see you mention that when you are using them that you need to cut a length that will allow you to pull it up on you leg and then from the bottom of where you cut the length you need to pull that part up your leg on top of the first half of the tube. So you end up with a double layer. You may have mentioned it and I just missed it but if you only tell folks to use one layer I don't think it will help them very much. Thanks for all of your videos and advice.

After having mild left ankle swelling off and on for a couple of years, it started getting worse. An ultrasound showed a large Bakers Cyst behind my knee. Again the swelling was off and on, until my foot also swelled. A special ultrasound revealed three deep vein thrombosis i.e. blood clots. Compression socks plus blood thinner helped about 95%. This is serious and shouldn't be overlooked as a cause.

I'm now 71 and when I was younger, I did have the occasional issue with it until mid20s when my ankles just looked like I'd stuffed a grapefruit in my ankles. I was a model for awhile so I didn't have a weight problem, played racquet ball, swam, scuba, etc. But I never had any success in getting it to shrink (used the Jobst compression stockings) until at 63 I had my left knee replaced and the swelling in my ankle and front of my calf. Magic. 2 months later I had the right one done and edema on front of calf and ankles/foot were still swollen but a bit better. What's my best choice for getting the rest of the swelling gone.

Hi guys✌ I cured the rolling down of the compression tubes with 2" wide Blue painters tape applied about 1/4" below the top end of the sock creating a "starched collar" effect. You have to apply it without adding any additional compression. Or even better, in sections ...2 or 3 with gaps works great to retain elasticity. NOTE: USE "BLUE" tape only as it is designed to release without damage to a surface. The standard tan tape will damage the fabric when removed. Enjoy your common sense videos 👍 Thanks from the 60+ club 😄

I suggested an anti-inflammatory diet with turmeric, apple cider vinegar, and magnesium as add supplements and no calcium tablets. But, if she could still stand and do foot raises, that would be ideal. She is limited now, almost, 99. They cut her PT back to nothing, in case she needs it in a few months. I don't think that's wise. Can you please talk about the vibration plate machines for artificial exercise? I hear these are great. It help a lot if you put your legs up on a wall for 20 minutes daily. It circulate blood flow freely, breath easily and lower blood pressure.

I get the best results from elevation when I prop my feet up on a wall as close to straight up as possible. Lay on bed or floor to do this for 10 to 20 minutes. Amuse yourself with ankle pumps and firmly self massage/stroke the skin toward your abdomen and heart. Remember the fluid is just below the skin, so you are trying to push it upwards into your thighs, and then your abdomen. If you do this at bedtime, you will probably be up in the night peeing.

Curious how you can massage skin towards abdomen and heart while lying down with legs up the wall?
@desertbluecatnm3 жыл бұрын
@iamsamudra9 lift one leg away from the wall, toward you, while keeping it up in the air. Reach up with your arms and firmly massage/rub/stroke your leg from ankle up into calf, then thigh, toward your abdomen. You are trying to push fluid up out of your leg.. Do this a few times. Put that leg back on the wall. Do the same with the the other leg. Repeat until you get tired.

Manual lymph drainage is a specialized form of manual (massage) therapy that can be very helpful. And sometimes deep massage under the bottom ribs will release the diaphragm which can pinch the inferior vena cava which carries blood up to the heart from the lower extremities.

Thank you for making it clear which ones to wear, I also was told that wearing mens stockings helps also instead of the compression socks. Not so hard to get on. and pretty colors as well. Thanks again.

The exercises and other tips from the World's Most Famous Physical Therapists on the internet worked when I had a level 2 sprained ankle. Before I found their videos, the progress in healing was zero. The exercises especially worked so well my doctor was surprised at how quickly the swelling was gone and I was walking without a brace or cane.

Tommy Copper compression socks are amazing! EZ on/off. Legs feel great! Bought mine from QVC. Amazing. I've had some compression socks I've had to cut off, so hard to get on/off - not w/Tommy Copper - great investment.

This was a cure my grandmother used, in this was away back in the thirties, Her ankles had a habit of swelling, She would cut up parsley nice and fine, and put it on a saucer and cover the cut up parsley with cold water to keep it fresh, she would have kept this beside the sink on the board, and every time she walked 🚶♂️ past the saucer or washed the dishes she would have eaten a little piece of the raw parsley. This always worked, and the swelling would leave the ankles, My mother 👩 used this also, My grandmother lived to 84 years, my mother lived to her 104th year, and I am now comming 79. This is an old tip to cure swelling in the ankles. It is cheap and easy to use. Worth trying if you have this problem. Winifred Thompson. Northern Ireland.

It's been years since I sprained my ankle, but the ankle swelling never reduced down. So is it trauma or lymphoma?

Thanks so much Bob & Brad, very helpful !!(as always) Question: Since, we're on this topic, does anyone know of, or can recommend any useful "Natural" herbs, or websites, etc. for reducing swelling. (I've read in these comments, one about parsley) Thanks in advance. (And yes I understand about possible issues with taking certain prescribed meds & use of herbs, etc. & about asking doctor first, thanks) :)

I have swelling and pain on one foot only. Saw several internal medicine doctors then the podiatrist but none seem to be able to find the cause or cure for it. I started using compression socks after seeing one of your shows and found there are fluids that got squeezed down to near the root of the toes where the toe socket is not as tight. Is this healthy? Should I be using Tubigrps? Should I count on the Internal medicine doctors or Podiatrists to solve my problem? I am going to watch more of your shows to see if one will address my precise issue. Thank you so much!!!
