The situation Bangladesh has put itself in over the last few months is only pushing it toward disaster. If you understand geopolitics, you’ll know what I’m trying to say. Bangladesh’s economy is falling faster than it grew in the past few years. Inflation is rising, and basic necessities are becoming too expensive for common people to afford. The biggest reason for this situation is that trade with India has been suspended. Bangladesh needs to act quickly to improve its relations with India; otherwise, things will go from bad to worse in the coming months. The textile industry, which was the largest contributor to Bangladesh’s economy, has collapsed, leaving millions jobless. Many of those factories and jobs have now moved to India. Even if Bangladesh tries to trade with other countries like China, it won’t help control the rising inflation. Right now, India is the only hope and option for Bangladesh. Even if Bangladesh starts working on the economy immediately, recovery will take a long time due to the global market situation caused by ongoing wars. Pakistan, on the other hand, gets help from countries and organizations like the IMF and World Bank because of the USA. Since Pakistan is a nuclear state, the USA can’t let it fail completely, as its nuclear weapons could fall into the wrong hands. But Bangladesh doesn’t have such advantages, so getting consistent financial aid or help will be much harder from any country and organisations such as IMF and world bank. What I’m trying to say is that Bangladesh’s economy might become worse than Pakistan’s in the coming months.

During Bangladesh liberation war it was clear that Pakistan's forces were depleted and Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw asked Niazi, commander of Pakistani forces, to unconditionally surrender in front of the Indian Army. *93,000 Pakistani troops surrendered to the Indian Army in 1971 making it the biggest surrender since World War II.*

They were not depleted Indian army was barely 20-25 k outside Dhaka, Pakistan has seriously had very bad generals, they should have held out for a month or till US support was available. Thanks for another relevant look at South Asian history. There wasn't much hue and cry in West Pakistan about the atrocities committed in East Pakistan in 1971. There were a few opponents at the time but a very small minority. A major reason for the fear of Sheikh Mujib ruling the Western wing was that the Punjabis considered the Bengalis inferior. Interestingly, this sense of superiority is reflected among many Pakistanis even now. So, it is ironic that despite being looked down upon for decades, despite having thousands of their women raped, despite having lakhs of their brethren killed mercilessly, so many Bangladeshis still consider Pakistan their friend and brother. For much of Bangladesh's post-1971 history, the governments have tried to be close to Pakistan, which is kind of hilarious.

I am a Bangladeshi Muslim and I agree with you. It was 2011 cricket world cup quarterfinal in Dhaka. Pakistan was playing the West Indies and it was the the 25th of March (26th March is our Independence Day). I went to watch the game. I was ashamed at seeing 90% of the crowd supporting Pakistan with songs of Independence playing in the background. I think two things come into play here. 1) The concept of Universal 'Muslim' brotherhood. 2) Post 1971, India's big brother attitude which pushed the younger generation (who haven't witnessed 1971) away from India which inherently means towards Pakistan.

@@nab_chy I agree with both reasons you cited. Many in India don't understand why India doesn't find more favour in Bangladesh. The expectation here is that since our army helped the country win its liberation, Bangladeshis should be beholden to us. India's post-1971 mistakes (both actual and perceived) are missed. However, I also feel (I could be mistaken) that the problems because of India are a lot milder in magnitude than those due to Pakistan. (I would also mention that I have Bangladeshi friends and had a great trip to the country earlier this year -- so no animosity at the personal level)

Even if you pray for their forgiveness seventy times, Allah will never forgive them. That is because they have lost faith in Allah and His Messenger. And Allah does not guide the rebellious people. Surah Al-Baqarag (2:193): Fight against them ˹if they persecute you˺ until there is no more persecution, and ˹your˺ devotion will be to Allah ˹alone˺. If they stop ˹persecuting you˺, let there be no hostility except against the aggressors. Al- Nisa 4:137: Indeed, those who believed then disbelieved, then believed and again disbelieved-˹only˺ increasing in disbelief-Allah will neither forgive them nor guide them to the ˹Right˺ Way. Surah An-Nisa (4:98,99): Except helpless men, women, and children who cannot afford a way out. it is right to hope that Allah will pardon them. For Allah is Ever-Pardoning, All-Forgiving. Al-Baqarah 2:256: Let there be no compulsion in religion, for the truth stands out clearly from falsehood. So whoever renounces false gods and believes in Allah has certainly grasped the firmest, unfailing hand-hold. And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing. Al-Imran 3:85: Whoever seeks a way other than Islam, it will never be accepted from them, and in the Hereafter they will be among the losers. Qur'an 2:191: Kill them wherever you come upon them1 and drive them out of the places from which they have driven you out. For persecution2 is far worse than killing. And do not fight them at the Sacred Mosque unless they attack you there. If they do so, then fight them-that is the reward of the disbelievers. Qur'an 2:193: Fight against them ˹if they persecute you˺ until there is no more persecution, and ˹your˺ devotion will be to Allah ˹alone˺. If they stop ˹persecuting you˺, let there be no hostility except against the aggressors. Qur'an Al Baqrah 4:48: Indeed, Allah does not forgive associating others with Him ˹in worship˺, but forgives anything else of whoever He wills. And whoever associates others with Allah has indeed committed a grave sin. Al-Maidah 5:72: Those who say, “Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary,” have certainly fallen into disbelief. The Messiah ˹himself˺ said, “O Children of Israel! Worship Allah-my Lord and your Lord.” Whoever associates others with Allah ˹in worship˺ will surely be forbidden Paradise by Allah. Their home will be the Fire. And the wrongdoers will have no helpers. Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:216: Fighting has been made obligatory upon you ˹believers˺, though you dislike it. Perhaps you dislike something which is good for you and like something which is bad for you. Allah knows and you do not know. Surah Al-Mujadilah (58:11): O believers! When you are told to make room in gatherings, then do so. Allah will make room for you ˹in His grace˺. And if you are told to rise, then do so. Allah will elevate those of you who are faithful, and ˹raise˺ those gifted with knowledge in rank. And Allah is All-Aware of what you do. Surah Al-Hajj (22:39): Permission ˹to fight back˺ is ˹hereby˺ granted to those being fought, for they have been wronged. And Allah is truly Most Capable of helping them ˹prevail˺. Surah Al-Hajj (22:40): ˹They are˺ those who have been expelled from their homes for no reason other than proclaiming: “Our Lord is Allah.” Had Allah not repelled ˹the aggression of˺ some people by means of others, destruction would have surely claimed monasteries, churches, synagogues, and mosques in which Allah’s Name is often mentioned. Allah will certainly help those who stand up for Him. Allah is truly All-Powerful, Almighty. Quran surah Al-Tawbah, ayat 9:111: Surely Allah has purchased of the believers their lives and their belongings and in return has promised that they shall have Paradise. They fight in the Way of Allah, and slay and are slain. Such is the promise He has made incumbent upon Himself in the Torah, and the Gospel, and the Qur'an. Who is more faithful to his promise than Allah? Rejoice, then, in the bargain you have made with Him. That indeed is the mighty triumph.

Sheikh Mujib was a Pakistani patriot. He did not want an independent Bangladesh. The left leaning cadre of the Awami League forced their rhetoric on him which he utilised to prove that he was an opportunist and power hungry all along. You did not mention that 10 million refugees from East Pakistan flooded into India. Indira Gandhi, Prime Minister of India, did a tour of Western capitals. They could offer no assurance or plan that the refugees would be able to return to East Pakistan.
