My view is that the matter has been handled lightly against the written Prevention of Corruption Act thus reducing the maximum sentence possible from $100,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 7 years or to both to a sentence of only 12 months which I think is a very lenient punishment for a High Level "Cabinet" Minister

Ministers can have access to state secrets which when fall onto the hands of Foreign Actors can lead to destruction of a nation. This is why ministers must be incorruptible. But A.I says incorruptible is when there is no corruption. So is SG Inc incorruptible? A minister if succumbed to desires, can be blackmailed if caught having sex with someone other than his wife or setup and video recorded. Forced, he can reveal state secrets causing harm to all citizens . This is why ministers should be most severely punished as leniency does not give citizens the assurance or protection they need. Trust is given to them without demand for independent audit by non-establishment people . This is a fatal flaw and singapura can be better but it's not yet so

Imo, the media tried to paint the punishment of one year as harsh, but I feel it is way too lenient. I was thinking three to five years for a minister who supposed to be a role model to the public. I think the election will not happen anytime soon until they know that the popularity will be in their favour.

He is too old for longer prison terms and he is no longer able to stand for election for 5 years after his conviction. The total of 6 years and he must have signed a contract to abstain from the industry once he is retired from the contract of employment. It is an employment agreement with the state.

As a lawyer Sylvia Lim should know that corruption takes various forms. Iswaran in my view is not guilty of corruption which I believe charges of corruption under the CPA had to be substituted with the charges under s65 of the PC. In any case, a careful reading of s65 would also show that he is alleged offence does not fit into the provisions of s65, She should explain why she (& others like her) thinks the prosecution of Iswaran "raises more questions than answers>

This case is way more serious. A senior minister who got caught with corruption. His jail term is a tap on the wrist. I hope this does not encourage dishonest and corrupt people to join politics. This could have been a great way to put a strong stance of future corruption practices. Somehow on our strong stance on drug smugglers. Now looking at the other case of pritam singh, there seem to be more focus on that. This is a dirty political game in my opinion. We need opposition and different opinions which can be the view of our people. Being raeesh khan beimg a liar, the government put so much focus on targeting pritam Enough.
