Eurus is played by Siân Brooke who played Ophelia to Cumberbatch's Hamlet in a production in London that ran in the summer before this series was filmed. Looks like she got this gig based on the crew seeing her in Shakespeare. Also, the look on your faces when you saw the ending of this episode was absolutely priceless!

It makes sense that John would be attacted to Eurus without even realizing why, though. Just saying. Sherlock, Mary.
@lokithecat722510 сағат бұрын
Given her "Cartoon" intelligence where she can completely Brainwash people by speaking to them... Anyone that she feels like going after wouldn't have a chance. Odd examples though, Mary (who isn't *super* intelligent), and Sherlock (who he isn't attracted to).
@caitfurnox10 сағат бұрын
@@lokithecat7225it’s not about their intelligence. It’s about the fact that Sherlock has said from the beginning, that John is attracted to a certain dangerous lifestyle” when he found out about Mary’s past. “And his best friend being a junkie who solves crimes to get high” That’s what the original commenter meant by his choice of Euros and I totally agree with them. John is attracted to the dangerous lifestyle, subconsciously it would make sense. Yes euros has the ability to do that to many people but John was always doomed to fall into her trap because of this.
@HuntingViolets46 минут бұрын
@@lokithecat7225 He is attracted to Sherlock in some way. You can be attracted to people as friends (although certainly a percentage of the fandom sees it as more) or romantically. Also, Mary and Sherlock are rather pointedly compared/contrasted on the show as being dangerous, allegedly (or at least spoken of as being) psychopathic or sociopathic. Mary is supposed to be very intelligent on the show, whether that works or not for you, but regardless of that, they attempt to show us that John is drawn to a type of dangerous personality type, even when (as Mary and Eurus both did) the person is trying to pass herself off as something more normal and comfortable.

IT'S MY CAR! 😅😅 RIP Una Stubbs aka MRS HUDSON 🕊️ she was an OG and so underused in this series for her comedic timing.

Gosh I do love this episode. The lengths sherlco goes to for John. The battle of wills against super powereful Jimmy saville. Toby Jones is Sooo good in this role and the sheer amount of people who don't recognise the women is amazing in it's deception. I loved the having chips scene and then I loved the reveal in the morgue I thought for a damn second this man was so smart and so damn high he had sussed the secrets of the universe like rustin Cole or something

I TOLD YOU ep 1 would pay off here! This is my FAVORITE episode of the whole series! Darkest one yet, but necessarily so. It tied up all the loose ends from ep 1 unexpectedly and emotionally. Also, surprisingly funny - the reveal Sherlock planned it all 3 weeks in advance 🤣 🤣 Sharp writing firing on all cylinders and man, Cumberbatch and Freeman do their best acting work in this one.
@HuntingViolets18 сағат бұрын
Siân Brooke, who played essentially four roles here, would later play Ophelia to Benedict Cumberbatch's Hamlet on stage. She also played Queen Aemma on _House of the Dragon_ and Deirdre Young on _Good Omens._ She looks different in every role. There is no sister in the Conan Doyle stories, although Sherlockians have long theorised siblings for the brothers Holmes (either a third, usually oldest, brother or a, usually younger, sister). You've probably heard of the Enola Holmes books by Nancy Springer due to the recent loose adaptations. There was also a novel called _The Strange Adventures of Charlotte Holmes_ featuring a younger sister.

Eurus isn’t from Doyle, but there was a reference to there being a third brother named Sherringford. Hence when they mentioned it, those in the know thought they knew where this was going, but Moffat and Gatiss pulled a fast one.
@HuntingViolets42 минут бұрын
There isn't a reference to a third brother named Sherringford (or Sherrinford) in Doyle, but he considered Sherrinford as a name for the detective before settling on Sherlock. Sherrinford is used as the eldest Holmes brother who remains in Sussex to run the family estate while Mycroft and Sherlock build careers in William S. Baring-Gould's [fictional] biography, _Sherlock Holmes of Baker Street: A Life of the World's First Consulting Detective._

I’ll repeat; ‘I want to break free’… Those who know, know 😂 You can say a lot about this show, and there’s certainly ups and downs. But what makes it so good is: they never sat on their laurels, always tried different and new things, and you never really know what to expect. The result is episodes of which even the lesser favorites are still endlessly entertaining and innovative in their way. And it most certainly warrants repeat viewings, because there is so much you miss on a first watch. And I’ll also say it again; your reaction videos to these (and other shows) are the absolute best, taking the content seriously, having fun but also poking some holes where necessary. Looking forward to where this is going next 🤞😏

It was heartbreaking that John kept seeing Mary. I can see myself doing that if my husband died. And Eurus has been hinted at as both brothers have mentioned the East Wind.
@HuntingViolets19 сағат бұрын
"The Lying Detective" is loosely based on the story, "The Dying Detective," with some inspiratio from the Jimmy Savile case (documentary on Netflix, by the way; it's disturbing) and a little bit of "His Last Bow" ("an east wind coming").

Sherrinford Holmes (or possibly I. Sherrinford Holmes, perhaps for Innes, Doyle's brother) was the original name Doyle was playing with for Sherlock. This became a brother who stayed and inherited the estate while Mycroft and Sherlock made their way in the world in some Sherlockian theory and in William S. Baring-Gould's "biography," _Sherlock Holmes of Baker Street: A Life of the World's First Consulting Detective._ Watson was to be Ormond Sacker, a name used for the Watsonish character in Gene Wilder's _Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother._

There’s always been stories about a third Holmes sibling. There were so many theories that anything that was asked or said at conventions and interviews was always an official confirmation from the writers when in fact it wasn’t even close. The media and fans even stated that Tom Hiddleston had been cast as the third brother.

At one point I'm expecting you to watch it all over again, so sure to find the little gems and forseeing you've missed the first time and even though knowing what is going to happen, it will still amaze you. Also, the payoff for what is build up from last season towards 'the Abominable Bride' (women are often underestimated or overlooked) and this then the last episode and this one... yeah. Every season builds up, season after season, and delivers. I hope you feel the same way too.

As far as Holmes sisters go, I much prefer Enola. Not necessarily better as a fiction device, I really like that approach to the Holmes.

The problem with this episode is you could fast forward the Toby Jones story line and it would be amazing. The main story arc is great with so many twists and turns (and humour). The crime that needed to be solved was an awful storyline, Toby Jones does an amazing job of playing a character that is just slimy and ick. The problem with that is as the story isn't that great and Toby makes you hate the character so much, it's not fun to watch at all.
